The present invention relates to an ultrasound system () comprising a first non-invasive ultrasound probe () configured to acquire first ultrasound data having a first field of view; a second invasive ultrasound probe () configured to acquire second ultrasound data having a second field of view which is different from the first field of view; a tracking unit () configured to determine tracking data comprising a position and orientation of the first non-invasive ultrasound probe () relative to the second invasive ultrasound probe (); and a registration unit () configured to register the second field of view into the first field of view based on the tracking data.

Ultrasound system and method

The present invention relates to an ultrasound system. A first non-invasive ultrasound probe receives first ultrasound data having a first field of view and a second invasive ultrasound probe receives second ultrasound data having a second field of view which is different from the first field of view. A tracking unit determines tracking data including a position and orientation of the first non-invasive ultrasound probe relative to the second invasive ultrasound probe. A registration unit registers the second field of view into the first field of view based on the tracking data.

Ultrasound system and method for interventional device tracking and guidance using information from non-invasive and invasive probes

An apparatus that detects a tip of an interventional tool based on at least two ultrasound images reconstructed for different beam steering angles within a volumetric region that includes the tool. The apparatus includes an image processor. The image processor includes a tip detection module used to perform a tip tool detection procedure. The tip tool detection procedure involves identifying shadow regions of the tool in the at least two ultrasound images and determining the position of the tip of the tool within the volumetric region.

Apparatus and method for detecting an interventional tool

The apparatus is adapted to detect a tool based on a 3D image obtained by a 3D ultrasound imaging system. The apparatus comprises an image processing unit, which includes a tool detection module configured to perform a tool detection procedure. The tool detection procedure involves identifying a shadow of the tool in the 3D image and calculating the position of a 'tool plane section' of the 3D image in which the entire length of the tool is represented.

Apparatus and method for detecting a tool

Disclosed is an ultrasound probe that includes an array of CMUT (capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducer) cells. Each cell includes a substrate carrying a first electrode of an electrode arrangement. The substrate is spatially separated from a flexible membrane by a gap. The flexible membrane includes a second electrode of the electrode arrangement. The ultrasound probe also includes an acoustic window over the array of CMUT cells. The ultrasound probe further includes a data storage element accessible to an external control module of the ultrasound probe. The data storage element stores configuration information for configuring an operation of the array of CMUT cells in pre-collapse or collapse mode with the external control module to optimize the effective bandwidth of the array. Also disclosed is a calibration method of the ultrasound probe, an ultrasound system and a method of operating the ultrasound system.

CMUT probe, system and method

An optical microscopy probe for scanning microscopy imaging of object has a housing with an optical window at a side position at the distal end of the housing, and an optical guide having an objective lens rigidly coupled to an end portion of the optical guide. The optical guide is displaceably mounted in a transverse direction of the housing so as to enable optical scanning in a region of interest. A relay lens unit is rigidly mounted at the distal end of the probe and it has a first lens, a second lens and a mirror. The relay lens unit is optically arranged relative to the objective lens for allowing scanning microscopy through the optical window at the side of the distal end of the housing.

The invention provides a system () for determining an identification characteristic of a medical device () carrying at least an ultrasound emitter/sensor element (). The identification characteristic is based on a detection signal from the ultrasound emitter/sensor element () upon a drive signal. The system () can identify the medical device from a database () of known medical devices. Furthermore, the system () can update the duration and frequency of use of the medical device () and it can prohibit further use of the medical device () when a predetermined limit of use is exceeded.

A monitoring apparatus for monitoring an ablation procedure applied to an object comprises an ultrasound signal providing unit for providing an ultrasound signal. The ultrasound signal is produced by sending ultrasound pulses out to the object, by subsequently receiving dynamic echo series after the ultrasound pulses have been reflected by the object, and finally by generating the ultrasound signal depending on the received dynamic echo series, whereby ultrasound scattering properties of the object are determined that represent blood perfusion. The monitoring apparatus further comprises an ablation depth determination unit for determining an ablation depth from the provided ultrasound signal.

Apparatus for determining a property of an object using ultrasound scatter

The present invention relates to a device comprising a supply unit () for supplying ablation energy to a material (), and a stimuli-responsive substance (') for controlling a level of the ablation energy deposited into the material (). The device allows to limit a temperature of the material (), so that risks associated to ablation at too high temperatures can be eliminated. The device may comprise at least one illumination unit () for illuminating the material (), and at least one reception unit () for receiving reflected light in order to obtain information about a state of the material (). The obtained information can be used to regulate the supplied ablation energy.

Safe ablation

The invention relates to a sensing apparatus for sensing an object. The sensing apparatus comprises an ultrasound unit () for ultrasonically sensing the object (), an electrical energy application unit () for applying electrical energy to the object (), and an ultrasound unit shielding element () for electrically shielding the ultrasound unit (), wherein the ultrasound unit shielding element () is electrically connected to the electrical energy application unit (). Since the ultrasound unit shielding element electrically shields the ultrasound unit, the ultrasound sensing of the object is less influenced by a capacitive coupling of the application of electrical energy, in particular, of an RF signal which may be used for applying the electrical energy, into the ultrasound sensing. A further reduction of this influence is achieved by electrically connecting the ultrasound unit shielding element to the electrical energy application unit.

Sensing apparatus for sensing an object

An optical probe system having a probe with an optical guide (G) having a distal end. The optical guide (G) is mounted inside a housing (H) so that the distal end is displaceable with respect to the housing (H). A set of actuators (A), e.g. electromagnetic drive coils, can displace the distal end by application of a drive signal (V, V). A control unit (CU) generates the drive signal (V, V) so as to provide a scanning frequency which varies according to an amplitude of the drive signal (V, V). With such probe system it is possible to scan a field of view with a scanning frequency that varies with the scanning radius. Taking into account the maximum allowable drive current, it is possible to increase scanning speed compared to scanning at the mechanical resonance frequency of the optical system, since small radii can be scanned at a high scanning frequency.

An apparatus for applying energy to an object and/or sensing the object. The apparatus includes an optical device for applying and/or sensing light energy and an electrical device for applying and/or sensing electrical energy. At least one optical fiber is provided for applying light energy to the object and/or sensing the object. The at least one optical fiber is connected to the optical device and includes a conductive coating forming an electrical conductor for applying electrical energy to the object and/or sensing the object. The electrical conductor is connected to the electrical device.

Apparatus, method and computer program for applying energy to an object

Needles are widely used in interventional radiology. Each medical application requires a specific needle type. The same holds for the photonic needles which analysis depends on the type of application the clinician aims for. Therefore, it is relevant to have the X-ray machine recognize the type of needle that is being used and to load the required software for the tissue analysis. It is therefore proposed to have a data link established between the imaging modality used for the acquisition of the patient anatomy (X-ray, CT, MR or US) and the system that processes optical data from the needle, so that the information from this imaging modality can be used to guide the processing. In a preferred embodiment the selection is made by reading out the code present in the disposable needle when it is connected to the console.

Algorithm for photonic needle console

The present invention relates to an optical probe () suitable for miniature applications. An example application is a fiber-based confocal miniaturized microscope. The optical probe comprises a coil-based actuation system () comprising drive coils () capable of displacing the distal end () of an optical guide () housed () by the optical probe. The probe makes use of a feedback loop which alternate between driving the displacement of the optical guide by driving a current through the drive coils and switching off the current through the drive coils, and while the drive current being switched off, measure the speed of the distal end of the optical guide. The measured speed is compared to the set-point speed, and if a difference is detected, the drive current is adjusted to eliminate, or at least bring down, this difference.

An apparatus for applying energy to an object includes at least one combination element for combining multiple energy applying elements for applying energy to the object. The combination element includes an axis around which the energy applying elements are wound. Further, the energy applying elements include energy emission locations arranged along a line.
