In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for coexistence management. A first access point operating in an unlicensed frequency band using a first RAT receives, from a second access point operating in the unlicensed frequency band using a second RAT, information regarding operation of the second access point in the unlicensed frequency band. It is determined, using the received information, that the first access point or the second access point is using a first share of the unlicensed frequency band that is below a predetermined threshold, indicating an imbalance of usage between the first RAT and the second RAT. A transmission parameter of the first access point for operating in the unlicensed frequency band using the first RAT is adjusted according to the determination. The first access point transmits the one or more packets using the adjusted transmission parameter, to cause the first access point or the second access point to use an updated share of the unlicensed frequency band that is closer to the predetermined threshold than the first share.

Adjusting transmission parameters to support coexistence fairness

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for coexistence management. A first access point is scheduled a time to begin transmission of a packet to a user device in an unlicensed frequency band using a first RAT. The time to begin the transmission is scheduled to avoid transmission overlap with a second access point using a second RAT in the unlicensed frequency band, and scheduled according to information from the second access point regarding operation in the unlicensed frequency band using the second RAT. One of the first and second RATs includes one of a WLAN RAT or a LTE based RAT, and another of the first and second RATs includes a remaining one of the WLAN RAT or the LTE based RAT, in one or more embodiments. The first access point receives updated information regarding operation in the unlicensed frequency band using the second RAT. Using the updated information, an updated time for the first access point to begin the transmission using the first RAT is determined, the updated time determined to avoid transmission overlap with the second RAT in the unlicensed frequency band. The first access point transmits, according to the determined updated time, the packet in the unlicensed frequency band using the first RAT.

Coexistence management via scheduling

A rate-adaptive method of communicating over a multipath wireless communication system uses multiple links such that each end of a link uses multiple transmit and receive antennas. A number of independent streams that are to be transmitted for each link is determined based on an overall system performance measure. In addition, the system may also jointly determine the best modulation, coding, power control, and frequency assignment for each link, based on an overall system performance measure. In OFDM systems, the number of independent streams, as well as the modulation, coding, and power control, may be determined on a tone-by-tone basis based on an overall system performance measure.

Rate-adaptive multiple input/multiple output (MIMO) systems

A method for establishing wireless communication between a transmitter and a receiver in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The receiver includes an adaptive array that has at least two antennas. Each antenna receives a signal and produces a received signal. The transmitter includes at least two transmission channels for communicating the signal from the transmitter to the receiver. The wireless communication system suppresses interference at the receiver by applying an interference suppression technique when combining the received signals. The selection of a channel at the transmitter is based on the channel performance at the receiver for each transmission channel. The channel performance is based on a combining technique different from the interference suppression technique.

System and method for selecting a transmission channel in a wireless communication system that includes an adaptive antenna array

An efficient method for providing both dedicated and simulcast services over a common wireless infrastructure is described. The services can be available to a single terminal as well as to a multiplicity of terminals simultaneously. The method uses time division multiplexing and orthogonal frequency division multiple access for simulcasting information and transmitting dedicated message information from a plurality of base stations forming a cellular pattern over the same wireless frequency channel. The method comprises the steps of constructing frames for transmission by the plurality of base stations comprising control information, simulcast information and dedicated message information within predetermined time slots of the frames and allocating the simulcast information and the dedicated message information to time slots of the same frame predetermined by the control information of the frame. The underlying modulation technology used is OFDM and thereby the channel delay-dispersion is minimized.

System and method for selecting a transmission channel in a wireless communication system that includes an adaptive array

A device may use positioning information to increase the efficiency a wireless local area network (WLAN) scanning process. To determine the presence of WLANs within range, a device may determine its own location. For example, the device may determine its own location using a satellite-based navigation system. The device may then determine a wireless scanning strategy based on the determined location. The determination may be further based on connection parameters, such as, channel information, network capabilities, and/or other connection parameters.

Wireless network scanning strategies

An OFDM system embeds sequence information in the transmitted signal that reduces peak average power ratio (PAP) with minimal impact on the overall system efficiency. A marker is embedded onto the transmitted information that is used to identify the combining (inversion) sequence at the receiver. In one embodiment, selected tones in a cluster are rotated when the corresponding phase factor rotates the cluster.

OFDM communication system and method having a reduced peak-to-average power ratio

The present invention provides a method and system for reducing the peak to average power ratio (PAP) of a signal with low computational complexity. According to one embodiment, the present invention is applied to reduce the PAP of an OFDM signal. According to an alternative embodiment, the present invention, is applied to reduce the PAP of a CDMA signal. Rather than seeking the optimum solution, which involves significant computational complexity, the present invention provides for a number of sub-optimal techniques for reducing the PAP of an OFDM signal but with much lower computational complexity.

Method and system for reduction of peak-to-average power ratio of transmission signals comprising overlapping waveforms

A wireless multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) communication system includes signaling simulcasting. Base stations include a plurality of transmit antennas and terminals include a plurality of receive antennas to form MIMO channels. In one embodiment, a simulcasting MIMO wireless communication system includes orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). This arrangement achieves the spectral efficiency advantages of OFDM and simulcasting.

Simulcasting MIMO communication system

Certain aspects of a method and system for a fast cell search using a primary synchronization channel (PSYNC) process in a multimode wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) terminal are provided. A WCDMA frequency search or a global system for mobile communications (GSM) frequency search is performed based on a current radio access technology (RAT), received signal strength indication (RSSI) scan measurements, and PSYNC detection operations. The RSSI scan measurements may be averaged by making multiple measurements during a measurement period. At least part of the PSYNC detection operations may be performed during a remaining portion of the measurement period. WCDMA carrier frequencies may be marked in accordance with the results of the PSYNC detection operations. For GSM, some of the frequencies may be removed from the search based on the PSYNC marking while the remaining search frequencies may be ranked based on results from the RSSI scan measurements.
