A transmitter in a fiber optic system is provided, including a driver circuit, a light emitting source, and transmission lines. The driver circuit is configured to receive a modulated electrical signal and to have a driver circuit output impedance. The light emitting source has a light emitter impedance that is different than the driver circuit output impedance. The light emitting source is configured to receive the modulated electrical signal such that it produces a modulated optical signal proportional to modulated electrical signal. The transmission lines are coupled between the driver circuit and the light emitting source for transmitting the modulated electrical signal from the driver circuit to the light emitting source. The transmission lines gradually change the impedance between the driver circuit and the light emitting source so as to gradually match the driver circuit output impedance to the light emitter impedance.

A laser driver comprises a PNP transistor current source, an inductor coupled to the PNP transistor current source, a switch coupled to the inductor, and a current sink coupled to the switch. The PNP transistor current source supplies a first current to a laser if the switch is closed and a second current to the laser if the switch is open. The PNP transistor current source, inductor, switch, and current sink are on a single semiconductor chip.

A method and apparatus for driving lasers. An example laser driving system includes a laser current controller for providing a modulation signal and a bias signal. The modulation signal and bias signal is used by a plurality of high-speed current drivers that accept the modulation signal and the bias signal and produce a plurality of laser drive signals. The example system also has a disable input that disconnects power from a high-speed current driver when the high-speed current driver is not in use. The exemplary system develops the modulation and bias signals by feeding back a signal developed from detection of laser light from one of the lasers driven by the system. The laser may be a data laser or a control laser that is modulated by a signal having a lower frequency than the data lasers. If a control laser is used then the photodetector circuit used for feedback can have a lower frequency response because of the lower frequency of the control laser signal. The photodetector system may also employ a peak detector capacitor discharge circuit where a large capacitance is simulated by having the capacitor discharge through the base of a transistor have a current source in the emitter circuit.

A temperature compensation system comprises a laser driver having a first potentiometer, the laser driver configured to provide a first signal to a laser based on a value of the first potentiometer and an optical communication analyzer configured to provide a second signal indicative of a first output parameter of the laser. The temperature compensation system comprises a computer system configured to drive the first signal and receive the second signal and determine a first updated value for the first potentiometer to obtain a first desired laser output parameter value based on a first known value of the first potentiometer, the second signal, and the first desired laser output parameter value.

Temperature compensation for fiber optic transceivers using optimized convergence algorithms

An optical transceiver includes a chassis, a printed circuit board, a conducting strip, a cover and a gasket. The chassis has a first reference. The printed circuit board has a second reference. The conducting strip is adjacent the printed circuit board and the cover is coupled over the printed circuit board. The gasket is positioned between the conducting strip and the cover thereby capacitive coupling the first reference to the second reference.

An optical transceiver includes a housing, a circuit board, an optical subassembly and a decoupling disk. The circuit board is configured to be coupled within the housing. The optical subassembly has a can and a barrel and the optical subassembly is coupled within the housing. The decoupling disk is coupled to the can of the optical subassembly.

High-speed laser array driver

An optical communication system that includes a multi-channel post amplifier assembly with flexible output configurations for amplifying optical-to-electrical converted signals on selectable groups of amplifier channels is provided. The post amplifier assembly, when implemented on a single IC chip, is capable of operating with either the 2.5V or 3.3V of power supply. In addition, the IC chip containing the post amplifier assembly provides capability to selectively turn off one or more post amplifier channels during operation. Further, the post amplifiers provide integral auto zero function without requiring a use of external capacitors.
