Touch sensor methods, devices and systems are disclosed. One embodiment of the present invention pertains to a method comprising monitoring a finger movement along a touch sensing surface based on position data of a finger touching the touch sensing surface, where the position data is obtained by locating a position of a force applied by the finger in a coordinate of the touch sensing surface. In addition, the method comprises generating direction data associated with the finger movement if the finger movement travels for more than a threshold distance. Furthermore, the method comprises determining a finger gesture which corresponds to the finger movement using a lookup table having multiple preconfigured finger gestures based on the direction data.

A capacitance sensing method may include performing a first scan of a plurality of sensor elements of a touch-sensing surface to detect a plurality of capacitance values indicating a presence of multiple contacts at the touch sensing surface. Based on the plurality of capacitance values, a plurality of coordinates may be calculated that indicate a plurality of possible contact locations for the multiple contacts. In response to detecting that the plurality of coordinates indicates the presence of the multiple contacts, a resolve scan of at least a first intersection of sensor elements may be performed, where the first intersection corresponds to at least one of the possible contact locations. Based on the resolve scan, at least one of the possible contact locations may be identified as an actual contact location of one of the multiple contacts.

Identification of at least one of a plurality of possible touch locations as an actual touch location may include detecting a plurality of possible touch locations at a touch sensing surface, wherein detecting the plurality of possible touch locations comprises performing a resolve scan of at least a first sensor element at the touch sensing surface, where the first sensor element corresponds to at least a first coordinate of the plurality of coordinates.
