A revolving piston rotary compressor comprises, in combination, the following: a compressor pump; an internal suction gas delivery system which eliminates an external accumulator, excludes a direct distribution of a refrigerant to the suction chamber and performs double-stage liquid-gas separation to prevent slugging, provides cooling of the motor and supercharges refrigerant into suction chamber due to action of an impeller; a discharge system utilizing a tubular discharge valve, a circular expansion cavity equipped with a plurality of reaction nozzles through which the discharge gas is jets ejected rearwards relatively to the intended direction of the revolving piston assembly rotation, said jets that impart driving moment which supplements the main momentum; a lubricating oil delivery system employing a positive displacement oil pump, an oil reservoir formed in the crankshaft and a plurality of oil accumulated annular pockets which prevent formation of 'gas lock' condition and accelerate delivery of oil to the bearing and mating surfaces, said oil which will not only lubricate, but will also prevents leakage through the clearances by providing liquid seal with combine pressure-discharge pressure, pumping pressure and pressure developed due to centrifugal forces. An external rotor electric motor of the compressor has been integrated with a pump parts to form the compressor pump arranged on a stationary crankshaft and surrounding by a housing fixed to opposite ends of the crankshaft and having no another contacts with the pump. A stator of the motor is permanently fixed on the stationary crankshaft and the compressor pump components&#x2014;a rotor block and an eccentrically fit revolving piston assembly are unidirectional spinning around the crankshaft. The rotor block and the revolving piston assembly have no radial clearance internal line contact through which the rotor block transfers an angular moment to the revolving piston assembly. It is not only supplements main momentum transferred to the revolving piston through a rigidly fixed in it vane, but also reduces frictional losses and eliminates leakage losses at the line of contact.

An improved muffler system for a compressor assembly where the muffler is disposed within the compressor housing and a peripheral edge of the muffler abuts, and expansively engages, the interior surface of the housing in an interference fit relationship. The compressor pump is attached to the muffler where the pump is substantially thermally and vibrationally isolated from the housing. The muffler, the compressor pump and the compressor housing define a series of chambers in which noise generated by the compressor pump is dissipated. The dimensions of the chambers are chosen to cause acoustical waves having specific, undesirable frequencies to cancel each other out.

Discharge muffler system for a rotary compressor

A rotary compressor for compressing a working fluid includes a housing having an oil sump. A stationary shaft extends into the housing and includes a longitudinal passage. The longitudinal passage has an oil inlet in fluid communication with the oil sump. A working fluid inlet receives the working fluid. A motor has a stator and a rotor. The rotor is rotatably mounted on the shaft within the housing and includes an internal compression chamber in fluid communication with the longitudinal passage. A roller is rotatably mounted on the shaft and eccentrically disposed within the compression chamber. The roller is coupled to the rotor such that rotation of the rotor rotates the roller and thereby compresses the working fluid within the compression chamber.

Compact rotary compressor with carbon dioxide as working fluid

A compressor assembly including a compressor mechanism, a compression chamber and a discharge chamber. A discharge port provides fluid communication between the compression chamber and the discharge chamber. A valve seat circumscribes the discharge port. A discharge valve member having a valve head, a biasing section and a valve support is provided and may be formed out of a single integral part. The valve head is engageable with the valve seat. A non-threaded coupling member may mount the valve support to the cylinder block of the compressor mechanism. A guide member engageable with the biasing section of the valve member may also be provided. The valve head may include a second concave surface positioned opposite the surface engageable with the valve seat and have an effective area larger than the discharge port area. The valve head and valve seat may each be partially spherical surfaces having a common radius.

Discharge valve for compressor

A hermetic compressor which uses carbon dioxide as the working fluid. The compressor includes a motor and a compression mechanism operatively coupled by a drive shaft supported by a bearing. The drive shaft includes a radially extending bore in fluid communication with an oil supply passageway in the drive shaft and the outer periphery of the drive shaft. An oil accumulating cavity is located beneath the radially extending bore in which oil is stored during compressor shutdown to provide oil to bearing surfaces upon compressor startup. An oil return system includes a chamber located at one end of the drive shaft and an oil return passageway extending from the chamber to an annulus formed between the bearing and the drive shaft. The oil in the annulus lubricates the bearing and drive shaft interface. A discharge tube is provided having means for aspirating oil from an oil containing sump when the oil in the oil sump reaches a particular level.

Lubrication of a hermetic carbon dioxide compressor

A hermetic two stage rotary compressor having a housing with a stationary shaft fixedly mounted in the housing. A motor having a rotor and a stator is mounted in the housing with the rotor being rotatably mounted on the shaft. A pair of compression mechanisms are rotatably mounted on the shaft with one compression mechanism being located adjacent a first end of the rotor, and one compression mechanism being located adjacent a second end of the rotor. The compression mechanisms are operatively associated with the rotor such that rotation of the rotor drives the compression mechanisms. A fluid flow path is defined in the compressor including a plurality of longitudinal bores formed in the stationary shaft. A mounting assembly is attached to the housing so as to mount the compressor in either a substantially horizontal or vertical orientation. The pump is positioned so as to be at least partially immersed in an oil sump in the housing when the compressor in either orientation.

Horizontal two stage rotary compressor

A hermetic rotary compressor including a housing having an oil sump formed therein; a stationary shaft fixedly mounted in the housing, a longitudinal bore formed in the shaft; and a motor mounted in the housing, the motor having a rotor and a stator, the rotor having a first and second end and being rotatably mounted on the shaft. A pair of compression mechanisms is rotatably mounted on the shaft, the compression mechanisms rotatably coupled to the rotor and lubricated with oil conducted through the longitudinal bore. Each of the compression mechanism has an outboard bearing rotatably mounted on the shaft, and an oil pump in fluid communication with the longitudinal bore is also mounted on the stationary shaft, the pump operatively engaged with one of the outboard bearings. The oil pump is actuated by rotation of one of the outboard bearings, and oil is pumped from the sump into the longitudinal bore by the oil pump.

Horizontal two stage rotary compressor with a bearing-driven lubrication structure

A hermetic refrigerant compressor including a compressor mechanism and a motor including a stator surrounded by a rotor attached to a crankshaft drivingly linked to the compressor mechanism. A first gap is formed between the rotor and stator, and a second gap is formed between the stator and the compressor mechanism. During compressor operation discharge gas expelled from the gas compression chamber travels through a discharge passage and a discharge plenum, and then through the first and second gaps. The rotor spinning during compressor operation causing a spinning vortex of refrigerant gas to occur in the discharge plenum, the vortex having an outer flow path of warmer gas and an inner flow path of cooler gas. The outer flow path of warmer gas generally travels through the second gap and the inner flow path of cooler gas generally travels through the first gap for enhanced motor cooling.

Hermetic compressor having improved motor cooling

A two stage hermetic compressor which uses carbon dioxide as the working fluid. A pair of modules individually housing compression mechanisms are located at opposite ends of a module housing an electric motor. The modules are secured to one another when the compressor is assembled. Suction pressure carbon dioxide gas is compressed in the first compression mechanism to an intermediate pressure which is introduced into an electric motor module compartment. The intermediate pressure gas enters the second compression mechanism module through a suction port. A conical baffle is affixed to the upper compression mechanism module to protect the suction port from direct suction of oil and to separate oil entrained in the gas therefrom. The intermediate refrigerant gas is compressed to a discharge pressure and is discharged into a compartment defined in the second compression mechanism module. The discharge pressure gas is then exhausted to the refrigeration system.

Two stage hermetic carbon dioxide compressor

A compressor assembly includes a housing and a compressor mechanism is disposed therein which is partially supported by a manifold. The manifold extends across the interior of the housing, has an aperture therethrough, and subdivides the interior of the housing into a first discharge chamber and a second discharge chamber. An electric motor is disposed in the second discharge chamber and includes a stator and a rotor. A shaft operatively couples the compressor mechanism with the rotor. The manifold includes an aperture into which is received a discharge gas into the first discharge chamber and a plurality of chutes to direct the discharge gas into the second discharge chamber. The chutes are in fluid communication with an exterior of the compressor mechanism defining passages therebetween. The housing includes a main section and an end section which respectively include edges. A bearing support member extends across an interior of the housing and is supported between the edges of the main and end sections of the housing. The bearing support member has portions which project radially outward. An auxiliary bearing is supported by the bearing support member and the auxiliary bearing rotatably supports the shaft. A method of assembly includes: attaching the compressor mechanism to the manifold and welding the manifold to the housing; attaching the stator to the housing and the auxiliary bearing to the bearing support member; aligning the main bearing with the stator and welding the bearing support member to the housing.

Discharge manifold and mounting system for, and method of assembling, a hermetic compressor

A compressor assembly including a housing, a motor and a compression mechanism disposed within the housing, the compression mechanism driven by the motor. A pulsating discharge fluid flow emanates from the compression mechanism through a first conduit; the first conduit having an outlet which is open to a discharge muffler chamber. A standing pressure waveform is established by the first pulsating discharge fluid flow within the discharge muffler chamber. A second conduit is provided which has an inlet which is open to the discharge muffler chamber and disposed outside the standing pressure waveform therein, and an outlet through which discharge fluid exits, whereby the magnitude of the discharge pulse transmitted by the discharge fluid is attenuated. The present invention also provides a compressor assembly including a compression mechanism and a discharge muffler chamber having a substantially hemispherical inner surface and a central axis. First and second conduits are in fluid communication through the discharge muffler chamber, the openings of the first and second conduits within said discharge muffler chamber are directed substantially towards the central axis and oriented at approximately a right angle relative to each other therealong. A discharge fluid flow is received in the discharge muffler chamber from the compression mechanism via the first conduit. The discharge fluid flow contains pressure pulses of a first magnitude. The discharge fluid flow is exhausted from the discharge muffler chamber via the second conduit, the discharge fluid flow exhausted from the discharge muffler containing pressure pulses of a second magnitude less than the first magnitude.

A compressor or pump assembly including a housing, a compression mechanism disposed within the housing, a shaft operatively connecting the compression mechanism and a drive source, the shaft having an axis of rotation and first and second surfaces, the shaft axis of rotation disposed between the first and second shaft surfaces, and a counterweight disposed about the shaft and comprising first and second portions, the first counterweight portion generally U-shaped, having first and second arms, the first arm in contact with the first shaft surface, the second arm in contact with the second shaft surface, the second counterweight portion extending between the first and second arms and attached to the first counterweight portion, the shaft captured between the first and second counterweight portions, whereby rotation is imparted to the counterweight through the interface of the shaft surfaces and the arms.

Detachably affixed counterweight and method of assembly

A suction accumulator for a refrigerant compressor which is mounted to the compressor in such a way as to reduce the metal fatigue at the joint between the inlet tube and the suction accumulator, and reduce the potential for rust or oxidation of the metal of the suction accumulator. The suction accumulator includes a cylindrical housing with two domed ends, wherein an inlet tube extends into the inlet of the suction accumulator and is provided with a flared end. The flared end is attached to the inlet of the suction accumulator and the flared end matches the contour of the inlet such that when the two parts are joined they are congruent with each other to thereby reduce the vibration therebetween. The suction accumulator is also provided with an outlet which communicates refrigerant from the suction accumulator back to the compressor. The suction accumulator is secured to the outside wall of the compressor using a mounting bracket. The mounting bracket is provided with a weld projection aperture and a plurality of weld projections which are used in welding the mounting bracket both to the suction accumulator and to the compressor. The mounting bracket is pre-assembled to the suction accumulator so that the accumulator and the mounting bracket can be mounted to a compressor as one integral unit.

Suction accumulator assembly

A suction inlet passage in a cylinder block of a rotary compressor includes a generally symmetrical diverging port which has generally conic cross-sections that divergingly open into a cylinder bore. The diverging port provides a buffer cavity which reduces pulsations and associated noise. The suction inlet passage is further provided with an entrance passage and a narrower passage, which is disposed between the entrance passage and the diverging port and which has a smaller cross-section than either the entrance passage or the diverging port. The suction inlet passage serves as a diffuser with the narrower passage functioning as the throat of the diffuser so as to increase volumetric efficiency with respect to the suction gas entering the cylinder bore. The diverging port extends the point of suction inlet close-off, and correspondingly enlarges the close-off angle, resulting in extending the period of unclosed compression and enhancing the supercharging effect. In this manner, the improved suction inlet passage increases volumetric efficiency, reduces pulsations and associated noise, and increases the pressure of the suction gas in the cylinder bore at the beginning of the compression cycle.
