A turbine-compressor assembly includes a turbine-compressor device fluidly coupled with a heat source, a compressor, and a turbine via plural valves. A power device is coupled with the turbine-compressor device via a shaft. A controller can control operation of the plural valves to control the movement of fluids within the assembly to selectively switch between the turbine-compressor device operating in one of plural operating modes. In a first mode of operation, the turbine-compressor device can generate electrical power and direct the electrical power to the power device to control an amount of power provided to or extracted from the shaft by the power device. In a second mode of operation, the turbine-compressor device can receive electrical power from the power device to consumer the electrical power.

Turbine-compressor assembly and method

A system detects a parameter and generates a first trip plan to automatically control the vehicle according to a first trip plan. A controller is connected to a sensor and configured to receive the parameter. The controller is configured to generate a new trip plan or modify the first trip plan into a modified trip plan based on at least one of a cumulative damage or an end of life date. A new trip plan or the modified trip plan is configured, during operation of the vehicle according to the new trip plan or the modified trip plan, for at least one of an adjustment in velocity or avoiding one or more operating conditions of the vehicle, relative to the first trip plan.

Vehicle monitoring system

Various systems are provided for a seal chamber of a centrifugal pump. In one example, a seal chamber housing for a centrifugal pump includes a central cavity internal to the seal chamber housing, the central cavity having a greater diameter at a first end of the seal chamber housing and a smaller diameter at a second end of the seal chamber housing, and at least one flushing passage at the second end of the seal chamber housing. The at least one flushing passage is configured to directly fluidically couple the central cavity to an exterior of the seal chamber housing. In this way, increased cooling and debris removal may be provided to a seal positioned within the seal chamber housing.

Systems for a pump seal chamber

A method and a turbine-compressor assembly of a system having a turbine-compressor device fluidly coupled with a heat source, a compressor, and a turbine via plural valves. A power device may be coupled with the turbine-compressor device. A controller may control operation of the plural valves to control movement of fluids within the assembly to selectively switch between the turbine-compressor device operating in one of plural modes. In a turbine mode of operation, the turbine-compressor device may generate electrical power and direct the electrical power to the power device. In a compressor mode of operation, the turbine-compressor device may receive electrical power from the power device to consume the electrical power.

A method and a turbine-compressor assembly of a system having an engine includes an upstream valve coupled with a compressor and a turbine-compressor device, a downstream valve coupled with a turbine and the device, and a controller to control the upstream, downstream, and a control valve. The controller selectively operates the device in a plurality of operating modes. In a turbine mode of operation, the upstream valve directs inlet air to the compressor, the turbine receives engine exhaust, the downstream valve directs first turbine exhaust from the turbine to the device, and the control valve directs second turbine exhaust from the device to an outlet. In a compressor mode of operation, the control valve directs the inlet air to the device, the upstream valve directs first compressed air from the device to the compressor, and the downstream valve directs the first turbine exhaust from the turbine to the outlet.

Monitoring system for detecting degradation of a propulsion subsystem

Various systems are provided for an electric turbocharger. As one example, an electric turbocharger includes a turbine casing housing a turbine wheel and a compressor casing housing a compressor wheel, a bearing casing surrounding a shaft connecting the turbine wheel and the compressor wheel, the bearing casing split into a turbine bearing casing, compressor bearing casing, and a stator casing, the stator casing positioned between the turbine bearing casing and compressor bearing casing and housing an electric motor mounted on and around the shaft, and a plurality of bolts, each bolt of the plurality of bolts extending parallel to the shaft and from an outer face of the compressor bearing casing, through the stator casing and turbine bearing casing, and into the turbine casing.

Systems for an electric turbocharger

Various methods for controlling EGR rate are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method comprises routing at least a portion of exhaust from a first exhaust manifold to an intake manifold, and not to atmosphere, the first exhaust manifold exclusively coupled to a first cylinder group. The method further includes routing exhaust from at least one additional exhaust manifold coupled to a corresponding at least one additional cylinder group to atmosphere, and during a first engine operating condition where an engine fuel demand is below a threshold demand, not injecting fuel to each of a subset of cylinders in the first cylinder group while injecting fuel to a subset of all cylinders coupled to the at least one additional exhaust manifold, where a number of cylinders of the subset of cylinders in the first cylinder group decreases in response to an increase in a target EGR rate.

Systems and methods for engine control

Various methods and systems are provided for diagnosing individual engine cylinders based on a turbocharger speed fluctuation of a turbocharger. In one embodiment, a method for an engine includes adjusting engine operation based on an indicated operating parameter of an individual engine cylinder, where the indicated operating parameter is based on at least one turbocharger speed fluctuation of a turbocharger correlated with crankshaft position.

Method and system for adjusting engine cylinder operation

Various methods and systems are provided for controlling air flow in a two-stage turbocharger. In one example, an engine method comprises adjusting one or more exhaust gas recirculation valves to maintain a first turbocharger within a first air flow range, and adjusting a turbocharger bypass valve to maintain a second turbocharger within a second air flow range.

Methods and system for controlling surge in a two-stage turbocharger

Various systems and method for controlling exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) in an internal combustion engine are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes during a first operating condition, directing exhaust gas from a first cylinder group into an engine air intake stream and directing substantially no exhaust gas from a second cylinder group to the engine air intake stream. The method further includes during a second operating condition, directing exhaust gas from the second cylinder group through a turbocharger bypass into the engine air intake stream and reducing a fuel injection amount of the first cylinder group relative to a fuel injection amount of the second cylinder group.
