A method of determining a presence of suction in a patient having an implantable blood pump from down-sampled log files. The method comprising calculating a waveform index for each of a plurality of flow rate data points from the down-sampled log files. The calculated waveform index is compared with a predetermined waveform index threshold. A non-suction trough baseline is calculated from the plurality of flow rate data points. A difference between a measured trough and a calculated non-suction trough baseline is compared with a predetermined threshold. The presence of suction for each of the plurality of flow rate data points is determined if the calculated waveform index is greater than the predetermined waveform index threshold and the difference between the measured trough and a calculated non-suction trough baseline is greater than the predetermined threshold.

Algorithm for detecting and presenting suction in down-sampled MCS log files

A method determining adverse events from operation of an implantable blood pump including calculating a moving average convergence divergence (MACD) based on power consumed by the implantable blood pump to maintain a constant rotational speed of an impeller of the implantable blood pump. An alert is generated when the calculated MACD diverges from a predetermined MACD threshold and a predetermined MACD zero-crossing time threshold.

Pump homeostasis indicator (PHI)

A blood pump with an integrated flow sensor is provided. The blood pump may include an implantable pump for pumping blood having a housing, a flow path extending within the housing and at least one movable element within the housing for impelling blood along the flow path and a sensor for measuring the flow rate of blood through the pump. According to one embodiment, the sensor may be mounted to the housing of the pump. In accordance with a further embodiment, the housing may have an exterior surface defining a cavity, and the sensor may be located within the cavity.

VAD integrated flow sensor

A method of estimating an amount of work available to be performed by a blood pump implanted in a patient includes calculating a first coordinate value characterizing a volume of blood impelled in the pump and a second coordinate value characterizing a differential pressure across the pump for each of a plurality of flow rate data points of a given cardiac cycle of the patient, each flow rate data point indicative of a flow rate of blood through the pump. An area enclosed by the first and second coordinate values of the plurality of flow rate data points is determined, the determined area being indicative of an amount of work available to be performed by the blood pump.

Pump preload index/indicator

A method of detecting a suction condition during operation of a rotary blood pump with an inlet connected to a ventricle of the heart of a patient, an outlet connected to an artery of the patient, a rotor, and a control circuit configured maintain the rotor at a set rotational speed. The method includes measuring the rotational speed of the rotor at a plurality of times during each of a plurality of speed measurement intervals. A speed range is determined between a minimum measured speed and a maximum measured speed during each of the plurality of speed measurement intervals. At least one additional parameter relating to the operation of the blood pump is derived. A suction detection signal is generated if both at least one determined speed range is above a speed range limit and the at least one additional parameter is indicative of a suction condition.

Suction detection methods and devices

A method of detecting a disruption in a diurnal rhythm of a patient having an implantable blood pump comprising calculating a moving average convergence divergence (MACD) based on power consumed by the implantable blood pump to maintain a constant rotational speed of an impeller of the implantable blood pump and generating an alert when the calculated MACD does not cross a MACD zero line for a predetermined MACD zero line crossing time threshold.

HVAD circadian tracker (PHI+)

The present disclosure provides for a method, control device, and implantable system, for acquiring a plurality of flow rate data points over time, each data point indicative of a flow rate of blood through the pump, calculating, based on the plurality of acquired flow rate data points, a value characterizing one or more features of a waveform formed from the plurality of flow rate data points; and determining, based on the value, the presence or absence of a suction condition in the pump.

Methods and devices for identifying suction events

A ventricular assist device ('VAD') includes a continuous-flow pump () implantable in fluid communication with a ventricle (V) and an artery (A) of a patient to assist blood flow from the ventricle to the artery. The VAD also includes a control circuit () connected to the pump, the control circuit being configured to direct the pump to operate in a series of cycles. Each cycle may include (i) pumping blood at a first speed (RPM) and at a first flow rate during a first period (t); then (ii) decreasing the speed of the pump from the first speed to a second speed (RPM) during a ramp-down period (t); then (iii) pumping blood at the second speed and at a second flow rate during a second period (t); and then (iv) increasing the speed of the pump from the second speed to the first speed during a ramp-up period (t).
