Certain aspects involve power management subsystems for a distributed antenna system ('DAS') or other telecommunication system. The power management subsystem can include a measurement module and an optimization module. The measurement module can monitor a utilization metric for a remote unit in the DAS or other telecommunication system. The power optimization module can determine whether the remote unit is underutilized based on the monitored utilization metric. The power optimization module can configure the remote unit for a low-power operation in response to determining that the remote unit is underutilized.

Power management for distributed antenna system

A calibration sub-system for calibrating a unit of a distributed antenna system is provided. The calibration sub-system includes a signal generator, a receiver, and a processor. The signal generator provides test signals to a communication path that are generated based on modification schemes for an in-phase signal component ('I component') or a quadrature signal component ('Q component'). The receiver receives output signals generated from test signals. The processor determines output power values for an undesirable signal component of the output signals. Each output power value is a Taylor series function or a polynomial function of a respective modification scheme for the I or Q component of the respective test signal. The processor determines an optimal modification scheme for the I or Q component that minimizes an output power of the undesirable signal component. An output value of the function is minimized by having the optimal modification scheme as an input.

Calibration sub-system for telecommunication systems

A system and method of monitoring a signal repeating device in a wireless communication system is provided. An operational noise measurement is obtained by measuring a noise value outside of a bandwidth of a first element, but within a bandwidth of a second, subsequent element in a signal path of the device. The operational noise measurement is alternatively obtained by tuning an input band of the device to shift the input band partially or completely outside of a bandwidth of a first element to create an open band or by suppressing an input of an antenna and measuring noise within the open bandwidth of the device. A stored parameter is retrieved and compared to the measured operational noise. Alternatively, a leakage signal of the device may be received at a signal receiver and compared to a reference. The reference is a function of elements of the device in a leakage path of the leakage signal.

Gain measurement and monitoring for wireless communication systems

A method of monitoring an element in wireless communication system is provided. An operational noise measurement is obtained by measuring a noise value outside of a bandwidth of a first device, but within a bandwidth of a second, subsequent device. The operational noise measurement is alternatively obtained by tuning an input band of the element to shift the input band partially or completely outside of a bandwidth of a first device to create an open band or by suppressing an input of the antenna and measuring noise within the open bandwidth of the element of the wireless communication network. A stored parameter is retrieved and compared to the measured operational noise. Alternatively, a leakage signal of the element may be received at a signal receiver and compared to a reference. The reference is a function of components of the wireless communication system in a leakage path of the leakage signal.
