A composition comprising: (i) 0.01 to 10 wt % of a linear, cationic conditioning surfactant; (ii) 0.1 to 10 wt % of a linear fatty material; (iii) a particulate benefit agent selected from conditioning actives, scalp actives, encapsulated fragrance, emulsified fragrance, and mixtures thereof; (iv) 0.01 to 5 wt %, at 100% active, of a branched cationic co-surfactant, selected from structure 1, structure 2, structure 3 and mixtures thereof wherein: R, R, Rand Rcomprise linear alkyl chains, saturated or unsaturated, with carbon-carbon chain lengths of from Cto C, preferably from Cto C; Rand Rcomprise linear or branched alkyl chains, saturated or unsaturated, with carbon-carbon chain lengths of from Cto C; preferably from Cto Cn and m have a range of from 0 to 10, preferably selected from 0 and 1; p has a range of from 1 to 6, preferably selected from 1 and 2; Rcomprises an alkyl chain having a carbon-carbon chain length of from Cto C, preferably Cto C; Rcomprises a proton or an alkyl chain having a carbon-carbon chain length of from Cto C, preferably Cto C; and X is an organic or inorganic anion; wherein the molar ratios of branched cationic co-surfactants (iv) to linear cationic surfactants (i) are in the range of from 1:20 to 1:1. results in improved particulate benefit agent deposition onto hair.

Hair conditioning composition for improved deposition

An acidic aqueous shampoo composition, which comprises: (I) a cleansing surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactant, zwitterionic or amphoteric surfactant and nonionic surfactant; (II) an emulsified silicone, (III) an anti-settling, thickening polymer, wherein the anti-settling, thickening polymer, comprises: (a) 40 to 74.5 wt % of structural units of Calkyl acrylate; (b) 20 to 50 wt % of structural units of methacrylic acid; (c) 0.3 to &#x3c;5 wt % of structural units of 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-propane sulfonic acid (AMPS); (d) 5 to 25 wt % of structural units of a specialized associated monomer having the following structure: wherein Ris a linear saturated Calkyl group; wherein Ris a hydrogen or a methyl group (preferably, wherein Ris a methyl group); and wherein n is an average of 20 to 28; with the proviso that the structural units of the specialized associated monomer (d) are derived from one of (i) a single specialized associated monomer (preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; more preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group); (ii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Cand a linear saturated Calkyl group; or (iii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; (f) 0 to 2 wt % of structural units of multi-ethylenically unsaturated crosslinking monomer or chain transfer agent; and wherein the sum of the weight percentages of structural units (a)-(f) is equal to 100 wt % of the anti-settling, thickening polymer; and method of treating hair or scalp with such a composition. 

Shampoo composition and method of use

An aqueous anti-dandruff shampoo composition which comprises: (I) a cleansing surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactant, zwitterionic or amphoteric surfactant and nonionic surfactant; (II) suspended particles of an anti-dandruff agent, (III) an anti-settling, thickening polymer, wherein the anti-settling, thickening polymer, comprises: (a) 40 to 74.5 wt % of structural units of Calkyl acrylate; (b) 20 to 50 wt % of structural units of methacrylic acid; (c) 0.2 to &#x3c;5 wt % of structural units of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS); (d) 5 to 25 wt % of structural units of a specialized associated monomer having the following structure wherein Ris a linear saturated Calkyl group; wherein Ris a hydrogen or a methyl group (preferably, wherein Ris a methyl group); and wherein n is an average of 20 to 28; with the proviso that the structural units of the specialized associated monomer (d) are derived from one of (i) a single specialized associated monomer (preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; more preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein R 1 is selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated C12 alkyl group and a linear saturated C18 alkyl group); (ii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Cand a linear saturated Calkyl group; or (iii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; (e) 0 to 1 wt % of structural units of acrylic acid; and (f) 0 to 2 wt % of structural units of multi-ethylenically unsaturated crosslinking monomer or chain transfer agent; and wherein the sum of the weight percentages of structural units (a)-(f) is equal to 100 wt % of the anti-settling, thickening polymer; and the use of such a composition in a method of treating hair or scalp. 

Antidandruff composition and method of use

The invention provides a personal cleansing composition comprising, in an aqueous continuous phase: (i) from 5 to 30% by weight of one or more anionic cleansing surfactants; (ii) from 0.1 to 10% by weight of discrete, dispersed droplets of emulsified silicone with a mean diameter (D3,2) of 4 micrometres or less; (iii) from 0.1 to 5% by weight of microcapsules in which a core comprising benefit agent is encapsulated in a polymeric shell, and (iv) from 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of a combination of cationic polymers comprising: (a) at least one cationic polygalactomannan derivative having a mean charge density at pH 7 from 0.2 to 2 meq per gram; and (b) at least one acrylamidopropyltrimonium chloride/acrylamide copolymer having a mean charge density at pH 7 from 1 to 3 meq per gram.

Personal cleansing compositions comprising a cationic polymer mixture

The invention provides a method of assessing the potential color protecting effect in vivo of a test formulation such as rinse-off hair treatment formulation, the method comprising the steps of: providing a sample of the test formulation to be assessed; providing a model substrate in the form of a hair switch which has been artificially colored; applying the test formulation to the hair switch; subsequently rinsing the test formulation from the hair switch; collecting the rinse liquor and analysing it for the presence of eluted color; characterized in that the artificial color used to color the hair switch is a permanent hair colorant with a shade level 1 or 2 according to the International Color Chart (I.C.C.). The method provides improved sensitivity and differentiation, and enables the tester to compare different technologies in terms of effectiveness.

Method of assessing hair colour changes

The invention provides a hair treatment composition comprising a hair substantive polymer, the hair substantive polymer comprising a polymeric backbone bearing: (a) at least one side chain which is formed from a hair fiber targeting group which is covalently linked to the polymeric backbone, the hair fiber targeting group being a non-cationic species which is capable of specifically interacting with the protein surface of the hair fiber in a non-covalent interaction having a bond energy ranging from 0.5 to 3 Kcal/mol, when the composition is applied to hair; (b) preferably, at least one side chain which is different to side chain (a) and which comprises a hair benefit agent. Compositions of the invention provide for deposition and delivery of benefit agents to hair in a more efficient and targeted manner.

Hair treatment compositions incorporating hair substantive polymers

The invention provides an aqueous shampoo composition comprising: (i) one or more anionic cleansing surfactants; (ii) preferably, discrete, dispersed droplets of a water-insoluble conditioning agent with a mean droplet diameter (D) of 4 micrometers or less; (iii) one or more cationic polymers (A) selected from cationically modified acrylamide polymers having a cationic charge density at pH7 of less than 1.0 meq per gram, cationically modified celluloses and mixtures thereof, and (iv) one or more cationic polymers (B) selected from cationically modified acrylamide polymers having a cationic charge density at pH7 of greater than 1.0 meq per gram, cationically modified polygalactomannans, and mixtures thereof, wherein the composition comprises a cationic polymer other than a cationically modified acrylamide polymer.

Shampoo compositions containing a combination of cationic polymers

An aqueous hair conditioning composition comprising discrete, dispersed droplets of a hydrophobic conditioning oil with a mean droplet diameter (D3,2) of 4 micrometers or less, a cationic deposition polymer and a block copolymer of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol according to the Formula (I) with the mean value of y from 10 to 60 and the values of x and z both from 1 to 150, or a block copolymer according to Formula (II) wherein the mean value of a is 2 or more and the mean value of b is 2 or more. 

Hair conditioning compositions

An aqueous hair conditioner composition comprising: a) a cationic conditioning surfactant, b) discrete, dispersed droplets comprising a water-insoluble conditioning oil and c) a block copolymer with a mean molecular weight of 1000 unified atomic mass units or more, comprising polyethyleneoxide and polypropyleneoxide blocks selected from the group consisting of (i) poloxamers according to formula (I), wherein the mean value of (y) is from 18 to 60 and the mean value (x) is from 7 to 140 such that the mean value of the ratio (x/y) is from 0.4 to 3.0 and (ii) poloxamines according to formula (II), wherein the mean value of (a) is 2 or more and the mean value of (b) is 2 or more.

Hair conditioning composition comprising a silicone oil and a poloxamer or poloxamine block copolymer

Hair washing compositions are disclosed which comprise cleansing surfactant, water, first and second cationic polymers having at pH7 a charge density from 0.2 to 1 meq/gm and from 1.3 to 3 meq/gm respectively, and droplets of a water-insoluble conditioning oil of diameter 4 micrometres or less. The compositions provide cleansing with conditioning and low friction and ease of combing for wet and dry hair.
