An engine braking system includes a camshaft, a follower, an exhaust armature, a lever, and a hydraulically actuated piston. The camshaft includes at least one cam. The cam has a lobe and a brake bump. The follower engages the cam. The exhaust armature is coupled to the follower. The lever is coupled to the exhaust armature. The hydraulically actuated piston moves the lever. Hydraulic actuation of the piston causes a change in lash distance between the cam and the follower. In an engine brake mode, the follower contacts the cam throughout rotation of the cam.

Engine braking system

A Type II valvetrain and engine brake arrangement includes a hydraulic brake housing mountable to a valve block of the engine. A brake piston is coupled to a brake rod and a brake cam lobe and is movable between an activated position and a non-activated position. A finger follower is disposed relative to the brake housing so that the brake rod engages the finger follower at least when the brake piston is in the activated position. When the brake piston is in a non-activated position, the finger follower is configured to pivot about a pivot as the finger follower follows a valve cam lobe to effect lifting and seating of a cylinder valve of an engine cylinder. When the brake piston is in the activated position, the finger follower, at least in part, pivots from about the pivot and the brake rod engages an end of the finger follower to lift the cylinder valve and release compression from the engine cylinder.

Type II valvetrain and hydraulic engine brake arrangement

A Type II valvetrain and engine brake arrangement includes a brake housing defining a hydraulic circuit and a follower piston chamber and a brake piston chamber. A follower piston in the follower piston chamber is configured to follow a rotating brake cam lobe. A brake piston in the brake piston chamber is in pressure responsive relation with the follower piston to move. A finger follower is disposed so that a brake rod coupled to the brake piston engages the finger follower at least when the brake piston is in an activated position. When the brake piston is the activated position, the finger follower pivots from a first end about a pivot as the finger follower follows a valve cam lobe to effect lifting and seating of a cylinder valve. When the brake piston is activated, the finger follower, at least in part, pivots from the first end about the pivot and the brake rod lifts the cylinder valve and released compression from the engine cylinder.

A hydraulic lash adjuster for use in diesel engines including a cylinder head having a first valve, a second valve, and a valve bridge extending between and in contact with both the first valve and the second valve. Where the diesel engine includes a first rocker arm, and where at least one of the first valve and the second valve undergo an oil can valve deflection rate. The hydraulic lash is configured to selectively transmit force between the first rocker arm and the valve bridge, and where the hydraulic lash adjuster is normally in the open configuration, and where the hydraulic lash adjuster changes from the open configuration to a closed configuration at a critical velocity that is greater than the oil can valve deflection rate.

Automatic lash adjuster for use with high compression internal combustion engines

An internal combustion engine defining at least one cylinder, the internal combustion engine including a first camshaft lobe, a second camshaft lobe, a valve in fluid communication with the at least one cylinder, a pivot, and a follower in contact with and operatively engages the pivot, the valve, the first camshaft lobe, and the second camshaft lobe. During use, the follower is operable in a first mode, in which the follower is configured to transmit motion between the first camshaft lobe and the valve, and a second mode, in which the follower is configured to transmit motion between the first camshaft lobe and the valve and the second camshaft lobe and the valve.

Valve train with switchable engine braking

A distributed load bearing including a roller, an inner flex ring, a pin and a load distribution spring. The inner flex ring is positioned radially inwards of the roller, and the pin is positioned radially inwards of the inner flex ring, and the load distribution spring is positioned in a cavity defined by the pin and the inner flex ring. The load distribution spring is preloaded, so as to apply a force to the pin and so as to apply a plurality of radially outward forces to the inner flex ring.

The rocker is positioned about the rocker support and partially in an axial aligning groove of the rocker support. The fulcrum is sandwiched between the rocker support and the rocker. The rocker oscillates about the fulcrum as forces are received and applied to a first and a second end of the rocker.
