An aqueous composition comprising basic aluminium chloride salt of formula Al(OH)Clto Al(OH)Cl, calcium chloride at a molar level of 0.020 or greater relative to the aluminium present, and glycine at a molar level of 0.050 or greater relative to the aluminium present, characterised in that the molar ratio of aluminium to the sum of the molar amounts of the calcium chloride and glycine is from 3.9:1 to 6.1:1 and in that the molar ratio of glycine to Al is greater than 1.7:10 and the molar ratio of Ca to Al is less than 0.35:10 or the molar ratio of Ca to Al is greater than 0.35:10 and the molar ratio of glycine to Al is less than 1.7:10.

Antiperspirant compositions

Spray compositions and particularly anhydrous aerosol compositions containing particulate antiperspirant actives exhibit a tendency for nozzle blockage, impeding discharge of the contents when a polyol humectant, such as glycerol, is blended into its base composition. The problem is overcome or at least ameliorated by preparation of a base composition, suitable for employment in conjunction with a propellant, that contains a low molecular weight (liquid) polyethylene glycol (PEG) as humectant, and particularly a PEG of molecular weight 150 to 500.

Spray compositions

Anhydrous cosmetic stick compositions containing a continuous phase of a water-immiscible cosmetic oil structured by a fibre-forming amido structurant and containing a suspended particulate antiperspirant or deodorant can suffer from either somewhat poor physical stability when formed, or preparative difficulties using conventional processes for making stick compositions or opaqueness. The problem can be ameliorated or overcome by the use of a combination of amido structurants comprising (i) an N-acylaminoacid amide in which the N-acyl substituent has the formula &#x2014;CO&#x2014;Rin which Rrepresents a branched Cto Calkyl group in combination with a further amido structurant (ii), selected from (iia) N-acylaminoacid amides other than (i), (iib) cyclodipeptides and (iic) a 1,2-di amido-substituted cyclohexane.

Antiperspirant formulations

Antiperspirant emulsions which exhibit excellent phase stability even in the presence of an effective concentration of antiperspirant salts in solution and which are thickened are obtainable by dispersing a hydratable polymer and particularly an amphoteric or cationic modified starch in an aqueous emulsion forming a viscous emulsion, often at an elevated temperature, subjecting the emulsion to high shear, thereby reducing the droplet size of the dispersed oil phase, bringing the emulsion to below 40&deg; C. and introducing the antiperspirant, preferably in aqueous solution. The viscous emulsion subjected to high shear mixing desirably has a Sheer Stress of 10 to 500 Pa. The resultant emulsions show good phase stability even when they contain aluminium/ zirconium antiperspirant salts that promote instability and even at elevated storage temperatures such as at 50&deg; C.
