An addressable optical network interface unit includes an optical input and a radio frequency output. The unit also includes an optical-to-electrical conversion circuit that converts optical signals received at the optical input into radio frequency signals, a directional coupler that is coupled to an output of the optical-to-electrical conversion circuit and a radio frequency receiver that is coupled to a first output of the directional coupler. The radio frequency receiver receives radio frequency signals input through the optical input. The unit also includes a controller that is coupled to the radio frequency receiver, and a filter circuit that is coupled to a second output of the directional coupler. The filter circuit includes multiple signal paths that filter out signals in different frequency ranges. Switches are provided that select one of the signal paths through the filter circuit. These switches are controlled in response to data contained in the radio frequency signal. The controller is configured to generate control signals that control the settings of at least some of the switches based at least in part on a filter control signal received through the optical input.

Coaxial connectors include a connector body and an inner contact post. A compression sleeve is also provided that is configured to impart a generally circumferential compressive force to secure one or more elements of a coaxial cable between the connector body and the inner contact post when the compression sleeve is in a seated position. The compression sleeve or the connector body includes a first disengagement mechanism that is configured to assist moving the compression sleeve from the seated position to an unseated position in which at least some of the circumferential compressive force is eliminated.

Addressable tap units for a cable television network include a radio frequency input and a radio frequency output. These tap units may further include a radio frequency receiver that is configured to receive a radio frequency signal input at the radio frequency input. A filter circuit, which may be a plug-in filter circuit, is coupled between the radio frequency input and the radio frequency output. The filter circuit includes at least one filter that filters out signals in one or more frequency bands. The tap units also may include a plurality of switches that select one of a plurality of signal paths through the filter circuit. The plurality of switches may be controlled in response to data contained in the radio frequency signal. The tap unit may also include an alternate radio frequency path that bypasses the plug-in filter module so that signals incident at the radio frequency input traverse the alternate radio frequency path if the plug-in filter module is not installed in the addressable tap unit.

Addressable tap units for cable television networks and related methods of remotely controlling bandwidth allocation in such networks

Signal amplifiers are provided that have a two (or more) piece housing that has an input port, an output port and a power port. At least one of the housing pieces comprises an aluminum housing piece. A first coaxial connector is mounted in the input port, a second coaxial connector is mounted in the output port and a third coaxial connector is mounted in the power port. A power amplifier is mounted within the housing, and is configured to amplify an input signal received through the first coaxial connector. At least first and second of the housing pieces have at least one metal plated thereon, and the first housing piece is soldered, welded or brazed to the second housing piece.

Signal amplifiers having plated aluminum housing bodies with a back plate permanently attached thereto

RF signal amplifiers are provided that include an RF input port, a first RF output port, a second RF output port and a power input for receiving electrical power. These amplifiers include a first communication path between the RF input port and the first RF output port that has a power amplifier that amplifies signals that are transmitted from the RF input port to the first RF output port. These amplifiers also have a second non-interruptible communication path between the RF input port and the second RF output port. The amplifiers further include a selective termination circuit that is configured to pass signals between the RF input port and the first RF output port over the first communication path when electrical power is received at the power input and to terminate the first communication path to a matched termination when an electrical power feed to the power input is interrupted.
