For shimming a background magnetic field of a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus having an outer vacuum chamber (OVC) bore tube, a shimming arrangement has rails on the OVC bore tube and shim trays are mounted between respective rails.

A current feed-through has a mounting feature, a member accessible from both sides of the mounting feature and an electrical isolator, connecting the mounting feature and the member in respective positions, to ensure mechanical integrity and electrical isolation between the mounting feature and the member.

A mounting plate for locating under a superconducting magnet structure, between the superconducting magnet structure and a supporting surface of a mobile carrier, is controllable between two different states. In a first state, the mount provides rigid attachment and precise location of the superconducting magnet structure onto the supporting surface of the mobile carrier. In a second state, the mount provides vibration isolation between the superconducting magnet and the mobile carrier.

In a method and apparatus for joining a number of superconductive cables to establish electrical connection therebetween, a cup-like member having a base, a sidewall, and an opening to receive electrically conductive ends of said cables is provided. The base of the cup-like member is attached to a holder device. The holder device is attached to a cryogenically cooled surface. The ends of the superconductive cables are connected together within the cup-like member.

Method and apparatus for cooling superconductive joints

A current lead-through for providing an electrically conductive path between an interior of a vessel and the exterior of the vessel. The electrically conductive path is electrically isolated from the material of the vessel. The current lead-through comprises an electrically conductive pin surrounded by an electrically isolating sealing material, and retained within a tubular carrier body by the sealing material, the electrically conductive pin being exposed at each end of the tubular carrier body to enable electrical connection thereto.
