Thermoplastic polyolefin polymer compositions, polymer chips, fibers, woven or nonwoven fabrics, films, closures, and laminates include a polymer and cyclodextrin compound with a volatile maturation inhibitor or an olefinic ethylene receptor antagonist in respiring produce materials. The polymer composition can also include a cyclodextrin-modified polymer or a substituted cyclodextrin. Olefinic ethylene inhibitors can be formed in the cyclodextrin composition, wherein the cyclodextrin releases the olefinic inhibitor composition when used in produce packaging materials. Coating compositions can also be made. The inhibitor is introduced into the materials and is released under controlled conditions of humidity. Upon release, the olefinic inhibitor blocks ethylene receptor sites on proteins that control maturation and can produce an extended period during which the produce does not substantially complete maturation or ripening to a degree leading to spoilage.

Maturation or ripening inhibitor release from polymer, fiber, film, sheet or packaging

Thermoplastic polyolefin polymer composition, polymer chip, fiber, woven or nonwoven fabric, film, closures, laminates can comprise a polymer, a polymer and a nonvolatile polymer-compatible carboxylic acid. Thermoplastic polyolefin polymer composition can also comprise a polymer, a cyclodextrin-modified polymer and a nonvolatile polymer-compatible carboxylic acid. The carboxylic acid moiety of the polymer composition can react with basic materials in the polymer environment and reduce release of the basic material. The cyclodextrin can act to absorb or trap other contaminants or odors in the environment.

Malodor absorbent polymer and fiber

Thermoplastic polymer compositions, films, continues, closures, laminates can comprise a modified vinyl polymer said modified polymer having a moiety comprising a cyclodextrin compound. The cyclodextrin compound, locked into the polymer structure, can absorb impurities, permeants, or other undesirable volatile materials. The cooperation between the cyclodextrin grafted onto the thermoplastic polymer and the polymer structure can provide barrier properties to a film, web or other polymer structure. A permeant or a contaminant can be complexed or trapped within the polymer and held within the film or Web preventing the permeant or contaminant from passing into the interior of a container or enclosure.

Grafted cyclodextrin

Thermoplastic polymer compositions, films, containers, laminates and fibers can comprise a modified polymer. The said modified polymer having a moiety comprising a half-ester reaction product of cyclodextrin and metal and/or organic group covalently bonded to some portion of the half-acid moieties. The cyclodextrin compound, grafted to the polymer structure, can scavenge impurities, permeants, or other undesirable volatile contaminants. The cooperation between the modified polymer's carboxylic acidic groups, basic groups and grafted cyclodextrin can provide active barrier properties to a film, web, fiber or other polymer structure. A permeant or a contaminant can be complexed or trapped within the polymer and held within the film, web or fiber preventing the permeant from passing into the interior of a container, or the contaminant can be scavenged from the enclosed headspace or surrounding environment.

Amphoteric grafted barrier materials

Durable and disposable articles are provided which include a thermoplastic polymer composition, which includes a blend of a polymer and a modified polymer. The modified polymer has covalently bonded pendant substituents derived from cyclodextrin. The articles can be a films, coatings, nonwoven webs, or monolithic articles. An article can have the polymer composition as one part of the article, such as in one distinct area of the article, or on the surface of the article, for example as a coating or surface film. The article can be, for example, a multilayer barrier film, a nonwoven sheet or pad, an absorbent article, or a storage container.

Articles having a polymer grafted cyclodextrin

Described are fiber materials having improved malodor scavenger properties and a process for the manufacture of said materials. In particular, described are fiber materials usable in the manufacture of disposable or washable diapers, incontinent products, sanitary napkins and other such hygiene and personal care articles with improved malodor scavenger properties, and to methods of manufacturing such materials. It has been found that the incorporation of, especially nanosized, metal particles and/or a cyclodextrin material into fibers creates a 'reactive' material having excellent malodor scavenging properties. More specifically, it has been found that the presence of nanosized metal or metal alloy particles and/or a cyclodextrin material in a fiber material, preferably a synthetic polymer material and more preferably a synthetic thermoplastic polymer fiber material leads to fiber materials or nonwovens having odor-controlling properties. The fiber material especially is useful in the manufacture of hygienic products like disposable diapers.

Fiber material having improved malodor scavenger properties

Described is a closure element for a container. The closure elements has a sealing element which contains a thermoplastic polymer, and an effective absorbing amount of an unmodified cyclodextrin material. The unmodified cyclodextrin material may be an &#x3b1;-cyclodextrin, &#x3b2;-cyclodextrin, &#x3b3;-cyclodextrin, and mixtures thereof. The sealing element can act as a barrier with respect to permeants, such as aromatic substances, trichloroanisole, aldehydes or ketones and/or impurities from the polymer.

Sealing element for vessel or container closures having improved barrier properties

Volatile organic compound or other materials are produced in the thermoplastic manufacture of thermoplastic polyester beverage containers. Such materials can be eluted into beverages such as carbonated beverages, sparkling or still water from the polyester. Such thermoplastic polyester resins can be manufactured with a material that can prevent the formation of, or react with, and absorb volatile by-products during the formation of thermoplastic preforms or containers from the thermoplastic pellet or chip. Further, as the preform is blown into a polyester container, the active materials of the invention prevent the generation of additional undesirable volatile materials. Lastly, the scavenger material can act as a barrier that prevents transport of materials from the exterior of the container into the container contents.
