A passive component for coupling to, and thereby tracking, an intermediary device within a cable television system is disclosed. The passive component includes a tracking circuit separate in functionality from an existing circuit of the intermediary device. The tracking circuit, which is unpowered and uncontrolled, receives a first signal from a first device in the cable television system, modifies the first signal to create a modified signal, and passes the modified first signal to a second device in the cable television system, the second device being configured to determine a type for the intermediary device based on the modification to the first signal. The first device is one of a cable modem or a CMTS, and the second device is the other of the cable modem and the CMTS.

A directional coupler includes an input connector, an output connector, and at least one tap connector. The directional coupler also includes a primary line connecting the input connector to the output connector and configured to carry an RF signal and an AC signal, and a secondary line connecting the primary line to the at least one tap connector and configured to carry a split off portion of the RF signal. The directional coupler also includes a tapped line circuit which is inhibited from carrying the AC signal. The mainline transformer includes a ferrite element surrounding the primary line and which is split in at least one location to include a gap of non-magnetic material that inhibits saturation of the ferrite element.

A system, method, and/or apparatus may track an intermediary device within a communications system. For example, a first signal may be transmitted from a first device in a communications system to the intermediary device in the communications system. The first signal from the first device may be modified (e.g., by a passive component of the intermediary device) to create a modified signal. The modified signal may be passed by the intermediary device to a second device in the communications system. The second device may be upstream or downstream from the first device and the intermediary device in the communications system. A type for the intermediary device may be determined based on the modification to the first signal. The second device may be configured to determine an identify of the first device associated with the intermediary device.

In one embodiment, a system for providing data communication services includes a cable television (CATV) tap operably coupled to a CATV network, the CATV tap comprising a tap transceiver. Further, a CATV gateway device is operably coupled to the CATV tap and includes a gateway modem using a first communications standard to communicate with the CATV network, and a gateway transceiver operably coupled to the gateway modem and configured to communicate with the tap transceiver. The system further includes a first device operably coupled to the CATV tap and configured to send or receive device data. The device data includes control data for controlling the first device or monitoring data generated by the first device. The tap transceiver of the CATV tap is configured to communicate the device data between the first device and the gateway transceiver.

A bonding block has a block body configured to be secured to a structure, a threaded hole extending in an axial direction, and a ground wire channel extending through the threaded hole in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction. The bonding block also has a screw assembly having a screw and a contacting element having a substantially flat first contact surface. The contacting element is rotatable relative to the screw such that the contacting element traverses axially without rotating while the screw is tightened in the threaded hole. The block body has a substantially flat second contact surface positioned at a bottom of the threaded hole and the ground wire channel. The screw assembly compresses a ground wire extending through the ground wire channel between the first contact surface and the second contact surface as the screw is tightened in the threaded hole.

In one embodiment, a system for providing data communication services includes a cable television (CATV) tap-off device including a signal splitter communicably coupled to a tap-off access point and a first signal transceiver, the CATV tap-off device being configured to communicate a CATV signal with a CATV network through the splitter; and a CATV gateway device communicably coupled to the signal splitter through a first coaxial cable to communicate the CATV signal with the CATV tap-off device. The CATV gateway device is configured to split the CATV signal into a television signal and a baseband data signal. A second signal transceiver of the CATV gateway device is configured to communicate the baseband data signal as a transceiver signal over the first coaxial cable to the first signal transceiver. The tap-off access point is configured to wirelessly transmit a first wireless signal based on the transceiver signal.

A system for providing data communication services includes a cable television (CATV) tap-off device and a CATV gateway device. The tap-off device includes a signal splitter communicably coupled to a tap-off access point and a first signal transceiver and communicates a CATV signal with a CATV network through the splitter. The gateway device is communicably coupled to the signal splitter through a first coaxial cable to communicate the CATV signal with the tap-off device. The gateway device includes a second signal transceiver and is configured to split the CATV signal into a television signal and a baseband data signal. The second signal transceiver communicates the baseband data signal as a transceiver signal over the first coaxial cable to the first signal transceiver. The tap-off access point is configured to transmit a first wireless signal based on the transceiver signal.

A coaxial cable female connector for inclusion in a port of a device or outer shell of a cable connector, includes a centrally located female pin within a pin carrier, the pin has an upper portion with two opposing resilient arms configured for receiving the central pin of a mating male connector. A non-electrically conductive cap is partially covered with an electrically conductive coating, and configured for seating upon said pin carrier, and for maintaining a ground or electrical connection between a shell of a male connector mated to a shell of the female connector, even if the male connector mating to the female connector loosens.

High frequency signals and power carried in a main cable delivering the same to a device are insured continuance flow within the main cable through use of a shorting bypass bar assembly in the device that is activated to electrically connect input and output ports of the device whenever the cover of the device is removed for servicing, for insuring continuity of the signal and power flow through the main cable. The shorting bypass bar itself is electrically connected to ground whenever the cover of the device is installed and the shorting bypass bar is disabled. Also, printed circuit board connectors for coupling to the input and output ports of the device to conduct signals from the input port into a PCB board for processing, and for delivering signals and power back into the main cable from another PCB board connector, include RF shielding, and the minimization of the size of the electrically interconnecting components both on the PCB connectors, and on the shorting bypass bar for maintaining a 75 ohm impedance at all times for electrical signals having frequencies ranging from less than to at least 3 GHz.
