Disclosed embodiments concern a composition and/or combination, and a method of administering the same as a feed, or to supplement the feed of, aquatic animals, particularly for aquaculture. Disclosed composition and/or combination embodiments may comprise glucan, silica, mineral clay, mannans,, a probiotic, and/or an adhesive agent. The adhesive agent may be selected particularly to facilitate administration to aquatic species. In certain embodiments the adhesive agent comprises an oil, such as soy oil, or a syrup, such as molasses, or combinations thereof. In some embodiments the composition and/or combination may further comprise polyphenol, an antimicrobial, and/or a vaccine. Also disclosed is a method for promoting growth and/or immune function in aquatic animals.

Composition and/or combination for aquaculture

Disclosed herein is a method for promoting reduction of heat stress in animals, as well as a composition for use in the disclosed method. The composition comprises a glucan, silica, mineral clay, mannan, and optionally an endoglucanohydrolase, and may be administered to an animal that is susceptible to or suffers from heat stress.

A method for the augmentation of immune function is described. The invention comprises a combination of &#x3b2;-1,3 (4)-endoglucanohydrolase, &#x3b2;-1,3 (4)-glucan, diatomaceous earth, mineral clay and glucomannan, which is fed to or consumed by mammalian or avian species in amounts sufficient to augment immune function. The invention described may be admixed with feeds or foods, incorporated into pelleted feeds or foods or administered orally to mammalian and avian species.

The disclosure relates to a composition added to animal feed used in combination with a vaccine to enhance the effectiveness of the vaccine. Amongst other effects, the composition raises the titer of antibodies to the vaccine.

A method for the prevention and treatment of fungal infections and, therefore, consequent invasive mycosis in mammalian and avian species is described. The invention comprises a combination of &#x3b2;-1,3(4)-endoglucanohydrolase, &#x3b2;-1,3(4)glucan, diatomaceous earth, mineral clay, and glucomannan, which is fed to or consumed by mammalian or avian species in amounts sufficient to inhibit enteric fungal colonization in the gut and consequent mycosis. The invention described may be admixed with feeds or foods, incorporated into pelleted feeds or foods or administered orally to mammalian and avian species.

Methods are disclosed for detecting, quantifying and/or identifying a fungal species in a sample or for diagnosing jejunal hemorrhage syndrome in a subject. The methods generally include amplifying a fungal nucleic acid sequence present in the sample using a primer selected from the group consisting of: SEQ. ID NO 5, SEQ. ID NO 6, SEQ. ID NO 7, SEQ. ID NO 8, SEQ. ID NO 9, SEQ. ID NO 10, SEQ. ID NO 11, SEQ. ID NO 12, SEQ. ID NO 13, SEQ. ID NO 14 or SEQ. ID NO 16; and observing or measuring the amplified nucleic acid sequence. The fungal species can thereby be detected, quantified, and/or identified. Fungal contamination also can be detected or measured in a biological or feed or food sample.
