A system includes radio devices where radio links between the devices are configured by bringing the radio devices in close proximity for a few seconds. A proximity detector of a radio device detects the proximity of another radio device and an automatic registration process begins to configure a link between the devices. One-to-one or one-to-many links may be established. Links may be cancelled by repeating the process. The devices may include an indicator to indicate establishment of the link.

Radio system with configurable links

A distance measurement arrangement provides a distance indication based on a delay between an electromagnetic signal, transmitted in a transmission mode, and a reflection of the electromagnetic signal, received in a reception mode. The distance measurement arrangement includes an antenna module having a plurality of antennas for transmitting the electromagnetic signal and for receiving the reflection. A beam-forming module defines respective magnitude and phase relationships with respect to respective antennas so as to cause the antenna module to provide a directional antenna pattern in at least one the two modes. A beam-forming and steering control module controls the respective magnitude and phase relationships as a function of a direction command. A 3-D picture can be formed by applying respective direction commands so as to obtain respective distance indications for respective portion in a two-dimensional picture.

Distance measurement

By the present invention a calibration and/or correction of transmit signals in a communication system using Frequency Division Duplex has been disclosed, in particular a method of calibration of a transmit signal to be transmitted in a device simultaneously receiving and transmitting signals in the communication system, wherein the transmit signal and the receive signal are separated by a predetermined frequency band gap. A down-conversion of the transmit signal received in the receiving path to an intermediate frequency is performed, whereby the intermediate frequency corresponds to the frequency band gap reduced by the intermediate frequency of the receive signal. A correction signal is derived from the intermediate received transmit signal and used to calibrate the transmit signal such that non-linearity effects caused by power amplifiers in the transmit path are effectively reduced. The present invention provides the advantages of an improved and simplified architecture and simultaneously of a clearly improved quality of transmit signals.

Calibration of transmit signals in FDD-transceivers

Receivers () for simultaneously receiving different radio frequency signals according to different standards are provided with first frequency translating stages () for converting the radio frequency signals into first intermediate frequency signals and second frequency translating stages () for converting the first intermediate frequency signals into second intermediate frequency signals and processing stages () for retrieving first information from the first intermediate frequency signals and second information from the second intermediate signals. As a result, such receivers () have relatively low power consumption. The first frequency translating stages () comprise first oscillators () and first mixers () and further first mixers (). The second frequency translating stages () comprise second oscillators () and second mixers () and further second mixers () and third mixers () and further third mixers (). The processing stages () comprise filters () for filtering the first intermediate frequency signals for removing the second information and further filters () for filtering the second intermediate frequency signals for removing the first information.

Receiver for simultaneously receiving different standards

A network for locating a wireless tag comprises a plurality of wireless nodes. The nodes are not connected together by a wired network. Each node is included in a floor tile for installation inside a building and configured to be wirelessly connectable to at least one other node. When the floor tiles are installed, the plurality of nodes form a mesh or grid and provide overlapping wireless coverage for locating the tag by reference to the mesh.

A method of indicating the location of a relatively mobile object, comprising the steps of: (a) generating a first signal that is characteristic of a first, relatively immobile object; (b) transmitting the first signal from the first relatively immobile object; (c) detecting the first signal at a receiver; (d) generating a second signal that is characteristic of a second, relatively immobile object; (e) transmitting the second signal from the second, relatively immobile object; (f) detecting the second signal at a receiver; (g) generating a third signal that is characteristic of the relatively immobile object; (h) detecting the third signal at a receiver; (i) operating a processing device operatively connected to the receiver using signal time-of-flight (t-o-f) data and/or received signal strength information (RSSI) to establish the distance of the relatively mobile object respectively from the first and second relatively immobile objects; and (j) generating a signal indicating whether the relatively mobile object is for the time being closer to the first or the second relatively immobile object as the case may be.

Method and apparatus for indicating the location of an object

An analogue current memory has a current input (1) which is connected to the input branch of a first current mirror circuit formed by two transistors (T4 and T8). The input and output branches of the first current mirror are isolated by a first switch (S1) which is controlled by a clock signal .phi.A. The output branch of the first current mirror is connected to the input branch of a second current mirror formed by two transistors (T9 and T12). The input and output branches of the second current mirror are isolated by a second switch (S2) which is controlled by a clock signal .phi.B which does not overlap the clock signal .phi.A. The first switch is closed during the first half of the sample period and the second switch is closed during the second half. A current fed to input 1 is mirrored by the transistor T8 while the first switch (S1) is closed and a first capacitor (CA) charges to the gate/source voltage of transistor T8. When the first switch opens the current through transistor T8 is maintained by the charge on the first capacitor. When the second switch (S2) closes the current supplied by transistor (T9) is mirrored onto transistor (T12) and hence to the output (6). When the second switch (S2) opens the current through transistor (T12) is maintained by the charge on a second capacitor (CB). Thus the output is valid when the second switch is open, i.e. during the period .phi.A of the next sample period.

Circuit arrangement for storing sampled analogue electrical currents

A sampled analog electrical signal in the form of sample currents is processed by combining the input sample current in one sample period with sample currents derived from input sample currents in preceding sample periods. The signal processing is performed by scaling, adding, subtracting and storing sample currents. A circuit arrangement for carrying out the signal processing may be constructed from current mirror circuits and a current memory which is capable of reproducing at its output in one sample period the current applied to its input in a previous sample period.
