The systems and methods are directed towards embodiments for incorporating alternative sources of information, other than current online sources, for use with intelligent personal assistants. These alternative sources are processed and prioritized by the intelligent personal assistant when performing queries by the user. Furthermore, the intelligent personal assistant is capable of performing other actions related to the alternative source of information. In another embodiment, the user is capable of providing both audio commands and motion-based commands to the intelligent personal assistant to instruct the intelligent personal assistant to perform specific processes whereby the audio commands correspond to a first set of processes and the motion-based commands correspond to a distinct second set of processes.

Active content rich media using intelligent personal assistant applications

A reader device for reading e-books may connect directly or indirectly to a cloud e-book service. The reader device may request access to a purchased otherwise obtained e-book through the cloud e-book service. The cloud e-book service retrieves a specification dataset that describes various characteristics of the reader device, such as display type and included hardware, and identifies any problematic media types that the reader device cannot properly display. The cloud e-book service then obtains an original copy of the requested e-book and or converts it into a modified e-book dataset by replacing at least one problematic media element of the problematic media type with a replacement media element that is properly displayable by the reader device. The cloud e-book service then transmits the modified e-book dataset to the reader device. The conversion may, for example, replace a video with a still frame from the video.

Automatic customization of e-books based on reader specifications

An author using an author device may connect to a publishing network, which in turn may be connected to a number of service provider networks that provide services relating to publishing workflow (e.g., editing, typography, historical research, cover designing) and business (e.g., marketing, promotion, author events). The publishing network may provide a network portal for the author and network portals for various service providers, with graphical user interfaces for both the author and the service providers. The author can then select specific service providers based on ratings, posted service rates, special requirements such as time scheduling and genre specialization, and can hire those service providers to work with the author's on or with the author's manuscript through the publishing network. The publishing network may then generate an agreement and track its signing as well as other milestones in the working relationship.

Self-publishing workflow

Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer readable storage mediums consistent with the present disclosure may include receiving feedback settings set by an author. The feedback settings may be entered by the author over a user interface at a computer. After the feedback settings are set the author may upload an e-book by transmitting the e-book over a computer network for storage. After the e-book has been uploaded, the e-book may be reviewed by one or more readers that may provide feedback to the author based on the feedback settings set by the author.

Social media-based publishing and feedback

An author using an author device may connect to a self-publishing network and identify a content selection that includes text from the author's manuscript. The content selection may be presented to a number of crowd editors through their crowd editor devices. The crowd editors may submit edited selections that include edits to the content selection. The author may then select a first edited selection of the edited selections and purchase that edited selection to be included in the manuscript, which also allows the author to then interact with a first content editor who edited the first edited selection. The author may send the first content editor a closed bid to edit more of the author's manuscript, which the first content editor can accept or decline, or negotiate. The author may alternately send more open bids to all or a subset of the crowd editors.

Crowd sourcing-assisted self-publishing

The present invention includes systems and methods for providing mood-based settings. One or more mood descriptors may be received and associated with one or more items in a database. A user device may receive information regarding a user's current mood. The user device may modify user device function based on the user's current mood. The user device may provide to the user content associated with a mood descriptor that matches the user's current mood. The user device may block a call when the caller is associated with a mood descriptor that matches the user's current mood.

Mood-based settings

The present invention includes systems and method for providing mood-based content. User data may be collected via biosensors and manual input by a user. User data may be processed to determine the user's current mood. Information regarding the user's current mood may be used to identify content associated with the user's current mood. The identified content may be used to update content for display. The updated content may be displayed to the user.

Mood-based content

The systems and methods are directed towards embodiments for implementing an interactive voice response (IVR) system with the voicemail system. The combination of the two systems would allow the recipient to listen to a recorded voicemail message and receive associated IVR commands that can be provided by the sender. The IVR commands allow the sender to generate customized IVR commands that provides different types of rich media based information (e.g., hyperlinks, video files, audio files) based on the sender input. Other systems and methods are also directed towards embedding active content (i.e. rich media based content) into documents.
