A downhole apparatus (′) for reducing rotational and linear friction between a downhole tool (′) and/or a downhole tool string and the wall of a wellbore (B) includes an annular body portion (′) configured for location on a mandrel (′) of the downhole tool (′) and one or more rib portions (′) extending radially from the annular body portion (′), and configured to engage a wall of the wellbore (B), the annular body portion (′) and the one or more rib portions (′) are integrally formed. The annular body portion (′) is elastically reconfigurable between a first configuration in which the annular body portion (′) defines a first inner diameter and a second configuration in which the annular body portion (′) defines a second inner diameter configuration, the second inner diameter being larger than the first inner diameter. The annular body portion (′) is elastically or plastically reconfigurable between the second configuration and a third configuration in which the annular body portion (′) defines a third inner diameter, the third inner diameter being smaller than the second inner diameter.

Downhole apparatus for reducing rotational and linear friction between a downhole tool and/or a downhole tool string comprising the downhole tool and a wall of a wellbore

Tubing expansion

A tubing expansion device is adapted to be advanced axially, without rotation, through tubing to be expanded. The device comprises a body and a plurality of expansion members mounted on the body, the expansion members being independently radially movable. The expansion members may be rotatable, or may be non-rotating.

A method of expanding tubing comprises locating an expansion device in tubing to be expanded, vibrating one or both of the tubing and the expansion device, and translating the expansion device relative to the tubing, the vibration acting to reduce friction between the tubing and the device.

Embodiments of the present invention provide an apparatus and method for expanding a tubular. In one aspect, embodiments of the prevent invention provide an expander tool having at least two expansion members radially extendable from the expander tool into contact with a surrounding inside surface of the tubular, the at least two expansion members radially extendable at different times and axially spaced after radially extending. In another aspect, embodiments include a method for isolating a first portion of a wellbore from a second portion of a wellbore comprising locating an expandable tubular within the wellbore between the first and second portions, the expandable tubular having a weakened portion therein, isolating the first portion from the second portion of the wellbore, and expanding the expandable tubular proximate to the weakened portion to sever the expandable tubular.

Method and apparatus for expanding and separating tubulars in a wellbore

An expandable coupling arrangement for coupling first and second tubulars includes a male thread portion on an end of the first tubular and a female thread portion on an end of the second tubular. The thread portions comprise dovetail threads having flanks, roots and crests, wherein the flanks are inclined at an angle of greater than 10&#xb0;.

Coupling tubulars

A method of lining a bore section, the method comprises providing a first tubing section and an expandable thin-walled second tubing section. The first tubing section is run into a section of a bore. The second tubing section is then run into the bore section, within the first tubing section, and expanded to a larger diameter, such that the bore section is lined by at least two tubing sections.

Bore-lining tubing

A method of coupling first and second expandable tubulars comprises providing a male tubular connector portion and a female tubular connection portion having greater yield strength, coupling the connector portions together, and expanding the coupled connector portions. The coupled connector portions may be expanded downhole.

Tubing connector

A method of sealing an expandable tubular within a bore comprises the steps of providing an expandable tubular describing a first diameter and having a sealing medium on its outer surface, running the tubular into a bore and expanding the tubular within the bore to describe a second larger diameter, and activating the sealing medium to facilitate provision of a seal between the tubular and the bore.

Coupling and sealing tubulars in a bore

There is disclosed an expandable centraliser for locating a body within a borehole, and a method of centralising tubing in a borehole. In an embodiment of the invention, an expandable centraliser () is disclosed, the centraliser () comprising a deformable body (), and at least one abutment portion in the form of a shoulder () on the body (), the shoulder () adapted to be urged radially outwardly on deformation of the body (), to centralise tubing () coupled to the centraliser () within a borehole ().
