An energy storage device cooling system includes a housing, at least one energy storage device within the housing, and a coolant circuit including a first flow portion extending through the housing, the coolant circuit configured to supply coolant for heat exchange with the at least one energy storage device. The energy storage device cooling system also includes a chiller system including: a coolant supply, a heat exchanger, and an outlet in fluid communication with the first flow portion. The energy storage device cooling system also includes a controller configured to alter a function of the chiller system when a sensed temperature does not exceed a first temperature threshold.

A hub assembly for construction of a fan includes a hub plate having a front face, a rear face, and an annular surface extending between the front face and the rear face. The hub plate defines a hub assembly axis extending through the front face and the rear face which is configured to coincide with the fan axis. The hub assembly further includes a plurality of elongated root sections that are circumferentially spaced apart and extend radially from the annular surface. A radiator includes a radiator frame, an array of tube assemblies each including a coolant tube and a tube clip supported in the radiator frame, and a lateral bump stop fitted between the array of tube assemblies and the radiator frame. The lateral bump stop includes cushions arranged in a staggered cushion pattern complementary to a staggered packing pattern of the tube assemblies with each of the cushions in contact with the tube clip of one of the tube assemblies.

The invention relates to an ATAAC having a header, a plurality of slots defined in the header, a plurality of core tubes coupled to the header, and a plurality of joint assemblies to couple the header with the plurality of core tubes. Each of the plurality of joint assemblies includes an adapter, a sleeve, and a nut. The adapter further includes a first section threadedly engaged with one of the plurality of slots. The adapter further includes a tapered section inserted inside a flared end portion of one of the plurality of core tubes. Furthermore, the adapter includes a second section defined between the tapered section and the first section. The sleeve disposed around the one of the plurality of core tubes, the sleeve is engaged with the flared end portion of the one of the plurality of core tubes. The nut is engaged with the sleeve and the second section of the adapter.

High temperature capable joint assembly for use in air-to-air aftercoolers (ATAAC)

A system for determining a remaining useful life of a cooling component operatively connected to a prime mover. A controller performs a thermal strain analysis that includes determining the power output of the prime mover based upon sensor signals, determining a temperature output of the prime mover based upon the power output, determining a temperature at each of the plurality of analysis locations based upon the temperature output, determining a temperature difference based upon the temperature at each respective one of the plurality of analysis locations, and determining a thermal strain based upon the temperature difference. The controller repeats the thermal strain analysis at time intervals over a period of time, determines an accumulated damage for the cooling component based upon the thermal strain from each thermal strain analysis, and determines a remaining useful life of the cooling component based upon the material characteristics and the accumulated damage.

A shunt tank assembly for a cooling system is provided. The shunt tank assembly includes a vent tube, a shunt tank, and an inlet port provided on the shunt tank. The inlet port is in fluid communication with the vent tube. The shunt tank assembly also includes an insert disposed in the inlet port. The shunt tank assembly further includes a drop tube. The drop tube includes a plug portion having a first length and received within the insert. The drop tube includes a transition portion tapered with respect to the plug portion. The drop tube includes a tube portion extending from the transition portion and terminating with a chamfered end. The tube portion has a second length greater than the first length of the plug portion. The tube portion is bent such that the chamfered end is disposed below an average coolant level of the shunt tank.

Shunt tank assembly

A cooling system for an engine includes a pump driven by the engine and configured to circulate coolant through the engine. The cooling system also includes a heat exchanger configured to receive coolant from the engine and to reduce a temperature of the coolant. The cooling system further includes a thermostat fluidly connected to the engine and the heat exchanger. The thermostat is configured to selectively direct coolant from the engine to the heat exchanger when a temperature of the coolant is greater than a temperature threshold of the thermostat. The thermostat is also configured to substantially block coolant from passing to the heat exchanger when the temperature of the coolant is less than or equal to the temperature threshold. The cooling system also includes a valve fluidly connected to the engine and the heat exchanger, and connected in parallel with the thermostat. The valve is configured to direct a portion of the coolant exiting the engine to the heat exchanger during a first operating condition. During the first operating condition, a pressure of the coolant exiting the engine is greater than a pressure threshold of the valve.

In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a method of controlling an internal combustion engine system having an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The internal combustion engine includes an engine block defining a plurality of combustion chambers, an intake air system in fluid communication with the combustion chambers and providing intake air thereto, an exhaust gas system in fluid communication with the combustion chambers and carrying exhaust gas therefrom, a cooling system having a cooling fluid circulated therein and a recirculated gas system in fluid communication with the exhaust gas system and intake air system wherein a portion of the exhaust gas is routed from the exhaust gas system to the intake air system. The method includes sensing at least two internal combustion engine system operating parameters, inputting sensed operating parameters into a controller, storing at least one predetermined constant in the controller, determining a cooling fluid heat threshold using predetermined logic with the controller in response to the at least two internal combustion engine operating parameters and the at least one predetermined constant, and controlling the internal combustion engine system in a predetermined manner in response to reaching the cooling fluid heat threshold.

An exhaust system in an internal combustion engine has an exhaust manifold, an exhaust flange is connected to the exhaust manifold, and a turbocharger is connected to the exhaust flange. The turbocharger has an exhaust inlet flange connected to the exhaust flange. The exhaust manifold has a first passage and a second passage, and the exhaust flange has a first exhaust port and a second exhaust port. The exhaust ports of the exhaust flange each have a generally triangular cross-sectional configuration.
