A method of constructing an injection well for a geothermal energy system comprising determining a fracture area of an injection well with a curved wellbore by inputting the curved wellbore path, a set of formation properties, and a fracturing operation, into a fracturing model. The curved wellbore path can promote fracture interference between fracture stresses extending from the injection wellbore. A production model can determine an economic value of the production fluids produced from at least one production well by determining a contact time for the injection fluids to traverse the formation. A design process can iterate the curved wellbore path of the injection well to produce a production fluid with an economic value above a threshold value.

Optimizing well placement to maximize exposed hydraulic fracture area in geothermal wells

A method comprising: introducing a first fluid into a wellbore above a fracture gradient of a subterranean formation penetrated by the wellbore to create a first plurality of fractures within a first portion of the subterranean formation; introducing a second fluid comprising at least one acid component into the wellbore above the fracture gradient of the subterranean formation penetrated by the wellbore to create a second plurality of fractures within a second portion of the subterranean formation; allowing the second fluid to enter at least one natural fracture in the first or second portion of the subterranean formation allowing the acid component to dissolve at least a portion of the subterranean formation to form one or more induced fractures in fluidic communication with the natural fracture, at least some of the first plurality of fractures, and at least some of the second plurality of fractures.

A method and system for pressurizing and stimulating a formation with a parent well therethrough, the method including storing and de-liquefying liquefied natural gas (LNG) at an on-site location near the parent well, injecting a first stream of de-liquefied LNG into the parent well to pressurize the formation, and injecting a second stream of de-liquefied LNG into the parent well at a fracturing pressure sufficient to fracture the pressurized formation.

The system also includes a clean fluid system that provides clean fluid to the first high-pressure static mixer at a first fluid velocity and a proppant fluid system that provides a proppant concentrate to the first high-pressure static mixer at a second fluid velocity. Additionally, the system includes a wellhead in fluid communication with the first high-pressure static mixer. The wellhead receives a mixed fluid including the clean fluid and the proppant concentrate from the first high-pressure static mixer.

Provided are methods of modifying the surface stress-activated reactivity of proppant particulates used in subterranean operations. In one embodiment, the methods comprise: providing a plurality of particulates, at least one of which comprises a mineral surface; providing a surface-treating reagent capable of modifying the stress-activated reactivity of a mineral surface of a particulate; and allowing the surface-treating reagent modify the stress-activated reactivity of at least a portion of the mineral surface of at least one particulate. In other embodiments, the methods comprise the use of particulates comprising a modified mineral surface in fluids introduced into subterranean formations.

Methods of treating particulates and use in subterranean formations

Methods, computer programs, and systems for evaluating and treating previously-fractured subterranean formations are provided. An example method includes, for one or more of the one or more layers, determining whether there are one or more existing fractures in the layer. The method further includes, for one or more of the one or more existing fractures, measuring one or more parameters of the existing fracture and determining conductivity damage to the existing fracture, based, at least in part, on one or more of the one or more measured parameters of the existing fracture. The method further includes selecting one or more remediative actions for the existing fracture, based, at least in part, on the conductivity damage.

Methods and systems for evaluating and treating previously-fractured subterranean formations

Provided are methods of modifying the stress-activated reactivity of subterranean fracture faces and other surfaces in subterranean formations. In one embodiment, the methods comprise: providing a treatment fluid that comprises a base fluid and a surface-treating reagent capable of modifying the stress-activated reactivity of a mineral surface in a subterranean formation; introducing the treatment fluid into a subterranean formation; and allowing the surface-treating reagent to modify the stress-activated reactivity of at least a portion of a mineral surface in the subterranean formation.

Methods of modifying fracture faces and other surfaces in subterranean formations

Methods of enhancing at least partially the structural integrity of a longitudinal portion of a deviated well bore are provided. The methods include providing a gravel matrix composition; providing a longitudinal portion of a deviated well bore; and placing a sufficient amount of the gravel matrix composition in the longitudinal portion to enhance the structural support of the longitudinal portion. Optional additives may include curable resins, tackifiers, and/or the incorporation of a degradable material in the gravel matrix composition.
