Disclosed herein are systems and methods for automating a pump-down stop operation and, more particularly, example embodiments may include an automated pump-down stop system that adjusts a fluid rate and a winch speed before the target depth based on the remaining depth and line speed. An example method for automating a pump-down stop operation of a downhole tool string includes: measuring a depth of the downhole tool string, wherein the downhole tool string is held by a wireline; measuring a wireline tension; measuring a speed of the wireline; measuring a pumping rate; measuring an inclination of the downhole tool string; and regulating automatically a winch controller and a pump controller simultaneously to stop the downhole tool string at a target depth based at least on the measurements of one or more of the depth, wireline tension, speed, pumping rate, and/or inclination.

Autonomous stop of pump-down operation

A vibration-damping sub is provided to mitigate shock and other sources of vibration in a tool string. In examples, a tubular damping body is rigidly coupled between a vibration-sensitive tool and a vibration source. The tubular damping body includes a tubular wall defining a plurality of shaped holes configured to dampen the mechanical vibration to below the design threshold for the vibration-sensitive tool. The tubular damping body may also include different portions having different materials and impedances to further disrupt the propagation of mechanical waveforms.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for downhole line detection. A system can send an electrical signal down an electric line that runs down an outside of a downhole casing of a wellbore. A downhole sensor system located at a downhole location inside the downhole casing can detect a magnetic field generated by a current of the electrical signal. Next, the system can identify a one or more characteristics of the magnetic field and/or the electrical signal. Based on the one or more characteristics, the system can determine a first position of the electric line relative to the downhole casing or the downhole sensor system. The system can then infer, based on the first position of the electric line, a second position of a non-electroconductive cable that runs alongside the electric line outside of the downhole casing of the wellbore.

Downhole line detection technologies

A braking apparatus for a tool string positionable in a wellbore and a method of braking a tool string in a wellbore is disclosed. The braking apparatus includes: a tubular housing having at least one radial arm-bay opening; an actuating mechanism including: a wedge member mounted in an internal cavity of the housing; an axial guide rod coupled at one end to the wedge member; and a push-pull device. The push pull device includes: a biasing member casing through which the guide rod extends to contact the wedge member, a biasing member; and at least one braking arm pivotably mounted to a lower portion of the biasing member casing, wherein when the biasing member casing of the push-pull device in in a lowered position, the braking arm bears on a sloped surface of the wedge member to project the braking arm into contact with a wellbore wall.
