A module installable in a machine includes a memory device attached thereto for storing electronic data associated with the module. The memory device allows an individual to verify the authenticity or inauthenticity of the module without having to install the module into the machine. The memory device includes a sensory signal output device (e.g., a visual, audible, or tactile output device) that provides a sensory signal indicating authenticity or inauthenticity of the module. To verify authenticity or inauthenticity of the module, the individual initiates a query signal, for example by activating a switch on the module or by using a handheld antenna to impart an electromagnetic field onto the CRUM, and checks for the sensory signal output by the CRUM. The sensory signal may be capable of communicating a visual or audible trademark associated with the module. Data stored in the CRUM may include anti-arbitrage variables associated with the module.

System and method for authentication of replaceable modules

A method of ordering a job queue includes providing a marking system that includes a first marking engine and a storage device storing first and second print jobs in queue. The first marking engine includes first and second metrics. The method includes determining a present state value of the first and second metrics for the first marking engine, and estimating an incremental depletion value of the first and second metrics of the first and second print jobs. The method further includes comparing the incremental depletion value of the first and second metrics, respectively, with the present state value of the first and second metrics for the first marking engine. The method also includes ordering the first and second print jobs in the storage device based at least partially on the comparison. A system is also discussed.

Method of ordering job queue of marking systems

In a xerographic printing apparatus, a scorotron places a uniform charge on a photoreceptor for forming electrostatic latent images. Three conductive pin arrays are disposed in a housing defined by sidewalls and a screen adjacent the photoreceptor. There can be provided insulative walls between adjacent pin arrays. The screen and a surface of the housing can be curved to correspond to a curvature of the photoreceptor.

Determining an end-of-life prediction of a replaceable cartridge may be accomplished by analyzing input parameters independent of the cartridge, in addition to parameters of the cartridge. An event count denoting a consumption event is read from a memory in the replaceable cartridge. A current consumption status of the replaceable cartridge is determined based on an initial load and the event count of the replaceable cartridge. An input parameter is received from an input device regarding a next pending process that involves a pending consumption increment of the replaceable cartridge. A subsequent consumption status of the replaceable cartridge is determined corresponding to the current consumption status altered by the pending consumption increment. The subsequent consumption status is compared to a replacement condition to decide whether a replacement condition is satisfied. An alert indicator is signaled to an operator upon satisfaction of the replacement condition.

Systems and methods for end-of-life prediction

In a printing apparatus, verification of the correctness of a particular replaceable module takes place before an operating element of the printing apparatus fully engages the replaceable module. A printing apparatus coupler establishes a communication link with a tag on the replaceable module as the replaceable module is being inserted into the printing apparatus. The printing apparatus coupler receives module identifying information from the tag. The coupler determines from the identifying information whether the replaceable module is appropriate for that location in that printing apparatus, and performs either an acceptance action to accept the replaceable module, or a rejection action to reject the module.

An apparatus for applying an electrical charge to a charge retentive surface, wherein a bias charge roll member is situated proximately to a surface to be charged such as, a photoreceptor. The bias contact roll member is supplied with an electrical bias including an oscillating voltage signal having, in one mode of operation, a clipped AC input voltage and in a second mode, an unclipped AC input voltage.

An imaging member having a substrate with a photoconductive layer coated thereon is anisotropic. The anisotropic substrate is stiff along one axis and flexible along another axis. Reinforcing fibers are aligned in the substrate to achieve the relative stiffness.

A printing machine of the type including an image receiving member having a charge retentive surface with a first developed image being disposed in a first zone and a second developed image being disposed in a second zone is provided. The printing machine preferably including a corona generator positioned adjacent the charge retentive surface and characterized by an electrical parameter; a first control device for setting the electrical parameter to a first level for disposing the first developed image at a first charge level as the first developed image is passed by the corona generator; a second control device for changing the electrical parameter to a second level for disposing the second developed image at a second charge level as the second developed image is passed by the corona generator; and a cleaning member, contacting the charge retentive surface, for substantially removing both the first developed image and a portion of the second developed image from the the charge retentive surface, wherein the capacity of the cleaning member to remove the first developed image and the portion of the second developed image from the charge retentive surface depends on the magnitudes of the first and second levels.

In an electrostatograhic imaging device of the type forming a multilevel electrostatic latent image on a surface of the imaging member, and developing the multilevel electrostatic latent image with at least two types of toner, and a brush cleaner for removal of toner and debris remaining after transfer of the image to another surface, the brush is maintained in a condition loaded with a first toner type providing abrasive characteristics at the fibers of the brush, for abrading the photoreceptor for removal of toner of said second type.

Method and apparatus for increasing toner loading of a cleaning brush

A cleaning blade which is made from a material having a fibrous material randomly oriented throughout the material to prevent defect propagation. The cleaning blade is used in an electrophotographic printing device to remove residual particles from a photoconductive surface.

Damage resistant cleaning blade

A cleaning blade is provided incorporating fiber fillers oriented in a single direction in an elastomeric matrix. In use, the cleaning blade is mounted for cleaning operation in a manner orienting the fiber fillers generally parallel to process direction. The material thereby provided is resistant to damage, and is relatively stiff in the process direction, while relatively conformable in the lateral direction.

An apparatus which controls the dispensing of marking particles into a developer unit used in an electrophotograhic printing machine adapted to reproduce a copy of an original document. The quantity of marking particles required to reproduce the copy of the original document is predicted and the dispensing of marking particles controlled in response thereto.
