A first region of the perimeter includes the second edge and extends inwardly and terminates at two corners defining first and second acute interior angles. The perimeter has at most four corners that define acute interior angles. A second surface is disposed opposite, and not contacting, the first surface. A peripheral surface is disposed between and connects the first and second surfaces. The peripheral surface has a first predetermined shape. Methods of making the shaped ceramic abrasive particles, and abrasive articles including them are also disclosed.

A shaped abrasive agglomerate particle includes a shaped abrasive particle bonded in a siliceous matrix. The siliceous matrix comprises a reaction product of an alkali silicate and a hardener. A detecting device detects a pattern transition zone as the production tooling moves in the direction of travel and provides pattern transition zone detection data to one or more controllers to control a speed of the production tooling and/or a speed of the resin coated backing as the detected pattern transition zone passes the deposit point to change a pattern density of the shaped abrasive particles in a portion of the resin coated backing corresponding to the pattern transition zone of the production tooling.

Each end defines a substantially planar surface. An axis extends through the first and second ends, and each end has a respective first and second cross-sectional area. At least one of the first and second ends is oriented at an angle relative to the axis that is less than 90 degrees. The elongated body has a variable cross-sectional area centered along the axis. At least one cross-sectional area between the first and second ends represents a local minimum cross-sectional area.

An abrasive agglomerate particle includes fused aluminum oxide mineral bonded in a vitreous matrix. The fused aluminum oxide mineral has an average particle size of up to 300 micrometers, and the abrasive agglomerate particle has a frusto-pyramidal shape with side walls having a taper angle in a range from 2 to 15 degrees and a dimension of at least 400 micrometers. The abrasive agglomerate particles are useful in abrasive articles. The method includes contacting the workpiece with an abrasive article and moving the workpiece and the abrasive article relative to each other to abrade the workpiece.

A method of forming a vitreous bond abrasive article is presented that includes receiving, by a manufacturing device having one or more processors, a digital object comprising data specifying a plurality of layers of a vitreous bond abrasive article precursor. The vitreous bond abrasive article precursor includes abrasive particles bonded together by a vitreous bond precursor material and an organic compound. The vitreous bond abrasive article precursor further comprises at least one of: at least one tortuous cooling channel extending at least partially through the vitreous bond abrasive article precursor or at least one arcuate cooling channel extending at least partially through the vitreous bond abrasive article precursor. The method also includes generating, with the manufacturing device by an additive manufacturing process, the vitreous bond abrasive article precursor based on the digital object.

Each one of the four faces contacts three of the four faces, and a major portion of the tetrahedral abrasive particles () have at least one of the vertices () oriented in substantially a same direction.

Methods of making a bonded abrasive wheel are also disclosed.
