This disclosure describes techniques for enabling interoperability between asymmetric and symmetric Integrated Routing and Bridging (IRB) modes. An interfacing component may be configured to receive a first route advertisement from a first edge node in a Layer-2 (L2) fabric. The first route advertisement may correspond to an asymmetric format route, for instance. The interfacing component may be further configured to receive a second route advertisement from a second edge node in a L2/Layer-3 (L3) fabric. The second edge node may be configured for symmetric integrated routing and bridging (IRB). The interfacing component may be configured to re-originate the first route and the second route such that the interfacing component is included as a hop in the resultant routes between the L2 fabric and the L2/L3 fabric.

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, by a route reflector, a subscription request from a first provider edge node in a network and generating a subscription policy for the first provider edge node. The method also includes receiving a first Ethernet Virtual Private Network (EVPN) Type 2 Route from a second provider edge node, assigning a sequence number to the first EVPN Type 2 Route, and communicating the first EVPN Type 2 Route with the sequence number to the first provider edge node. The method further includes receiving a second EVPN Type 2 Route from a third provider edge node, generating an updated sequence number in response to receiving the second EVPN Type 2 Route from the third provider edge node, and communicating the second EVPN Type 2 Route with the updated sequence number to the first provider edge node and the second provider node.

A system includes a network topology comprising a plurality of spine nodes and a plurality of leaf nodes, wherein a link between a first spine node and a first leaf node is inactive. The instructions include receiving a packet to be transmitted to the first leaf node. The instructions include identifying an alternative spine node at a same level in the network topology. The instructions include attaching a tunnel label to the packet, wherein the tunnel label indicates the packet should be transmitted to the alternative spine node.

Loop conflict avoidance in a network computing environment

Techniques and mechanisms for a control plane approach for dense topologies that focusses on discovering shared ECMP groups in the control plane independent of per-prefix learning and then learning prefixes via these shared ECMP groups instead of learning prefixes via one next-hop at a time. In dense topologies, this approach helps minimize BGP path scale, corresponding signaling and enables control plane scaling that is an order of magnitude higher than a traditional eBGP control plane. During link and node topology changes, the described control plane approach enables control plane signaling that is prefix independent and an order of magnitude lower. A control plane approach to path-list sharing and prefix independent signaling on link and node topology changes enables prefix independent convergence (PIC) in scenarios that would not be possible otherwise with traditional FIB driven path-list sharing and PIC.

The system is such that at least one of the plurality of leaf nodes is associated with one or more networking prefixes. The spine node stores a prefix table. The prefix table includes an indication of at least one equal-cost multipath routing (ECMP) group associated with each of the networking prefixes in the network topology.
