Temporary firmware is provided as cloud services. Different temporary firmware containers are downloaded via a communications network. A light-weight operating system launches and executes the temporary firmware containers during a boot operation, POST operation, or other scheme. The temporary firmware containers thus detect and perhaps resolve POST errors. The light-weight operating system may also download a full-service/resource operating system. A second or subsequent boot operation may be performed, but control is ceded to the full-service/resource operating system. Multiple firmware tenants may thus be temporarily downloaded to a bare metal machine to support POST error detection activities. Advanced OS serviceability, diagnostics, and other containerized firmware may thus be quickly and simply launched without requiring the excessive time and difficulties of using the full-service/resource operating system.

Containerized firmware services

In some examples, a computing device may initiate a chat session with a software agent on a server. During the chat session, the software agent may ask questions and receive answers in response. The server may process logs sent from the computing device and a transcript of the chat session to identify tokens. A supervised learning model on the server may select a script based on the tokens and send the script to the computing device. The computing device may store the script in non-volatile memory and boot into a setup state of a basic input output system (BIOS) of the computing device. The BIOS may retrieve the script, convert BIOS procedure calls in the script into an action tree, and execute the actions in the action tree, causing a virtual mouse and/or virtual keyboard to provide input to the BIOS to modify the BIOS to address an issue.

Supervised learning based UEFI pre-boot control

A preboot module of BIOS may be configured to create a partition mapping table for namespace identifiers of sub-partitions of a boot partition, determine a configuration policy for the information handling system, store the configuration policy in a partition of non-volatile memory, launch execution of an embedded operating system kernel, and communicate the partition mapping table to the embedded operating system kernel based on the configuration policy, such that the embedded operating system kernel is enabled to load the configuration policy from the non-volatile memory and load and execute one or more applications based on the partition mapping table and the configuration policy.
