A method of manufacturing a coated article comprises injecting a feedstock with a polymer resin to provide a resin-injected feedstock, pulling the resin-injected feedstock through a pultrusion die to form a pultrusion substrate having one or more profile surfaces, adhering an adhesive material comprising a thermoplastic polyurethane onto at least a portion the one or more profile surfaces to form one or more adhesive tie layers on the pultrusion substrate, and applying one or more coating materials onto the one or more adhesive tie layers to form one or more coating layers on the one or more adhesive tie layers to provide a coated pultrusion article, wherein an adhesion strength between the one or more coating layers and the one or more adhesive tie layers is higher than a corresponding adhesion strength would be between the one or more coating layers and the pultrusion substrate.

Coating system and method

Disclosed are methods of treating a metal to improve the metal's corrosion resistance. In one such method, the method is carried out by applying, to the surface of the metal, a coating which includes magnesium powder and a UV-curable or other radiation-curable binder. In another such method, the method is carried out by applying, to the surface of the metal, a coating which includes magnesium powder and an inorganic binder. In another such method, a coating that includes a magnesium alloy powder and a binder is applied to the surface of the metal. The magnesium alloy powder is selected such that it has a corrosion potential that is from about 0.01 volt to about 1.5 volt more negative than the metal's corrosion potential. Also disclosed are methods of treating a ferrous metals and magnesium alloys to improve the corrosion resistance of these materials.

Coating systems for metal substrates and a method for protective metal substrates using the coating systems

The invention provides an improved unsaturated polyester prepared from the polycondensation of unsaturated diacid monomers or unsaturated acid anhydride mononers and polyol monomers and, optionally, one or more saturated aliphatic or aromatic diacid monomers or anhydride monomers thereof. The improvement comprises 0.5 to 50 weight percent, based on the total monomer weight, of a hydroxyalkyl-functional siloxane of formula (1) below. The invention also relates to a UV curable coating formulation containing a siloxane-functional unsaturated polyester resin, a vinyl ether functional diluents and a photoinitiator. The invention further provides a method of preparing an article with a low-surface energy coating. According to the method, at least one surface of an article with a coating formulation of the invention; and the coating is then cured as described above with UV light to form a low-surface energy coating on the surface. The invention also relates to articles having a low-surface energy coating according to the invention. 

UV-curable low surface energy coatings

Disclosed are coating formulations that include a copolyester and a vinyl ether in which the copolyester is produced by copolymerizing a monomer composition that includes a fused aromatic diacid monomer, an unsaturated diacid monomer, and a polyol. Also disclosed are methods for producing a laser-ablatable film on a surface of a substrate. The method includes coating the substrate with a coating formulation that includes a copolyester and a vinyl ether and polymerizing the coating formulation. The copolyester includes a fused aromatic moiety covalently bonded therein. Novel radiation curable sensitizers that can be used in the preparation of radiation curable polymer films having improved laser ablation properties are also described.
