An electronic device may include clocking circuitry with primary and secondary lasers that generate first and second optical local oscillator (LO) signals. A phase-locked loop (PLL) may tune the secondary laser based to phase lock the first and second optical LO signals. A self-injection locking loop path may couple an output of the secondary laser to its input. The self-injection locking loop path may include a first mixer and a second mixer. The first mixer may generate a beat signal using the first and second optical LO signals. The second mixer may generate a self-injection locking signal based on the first optical LO signal and the beat signal. A delay line or optical resonator may iteratively self-inject the self-injection locking signal onto the secondary laser. This may serve to minimize phase noise and jitter of the optical LO signals.

Electronic devices with low phase noise frequency generation

An electronic device may include a receiver having a light source that provides an optical signal to an optical splitter. An optical combiner may be coupled to the optical splitter over a set of parallel optical paths. A phased antenna array may have a set of antennas disposed on the optical paths. Each antenna may include an optical modulator disposed on a respective one of the optical paths and an antenna resonating element coupled to the modulator. Incident radio-frequency signals may produce electrical signals on the antenna resonating elements. Optical phase shifters may provide optical phase shifts to the optical signal. The modulators may modulate the optical local oscillator signal using the electrical signals. The optical combiner may generate a combined signal by combining modulated optical signals from the optical paths. A demodulator may recover wireless data from the radio-frequency signals using the combined signal.

Receiver with photonic antenna array

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to isolating a receiver circuit of an electronic device from a transmission signal and leakage of the transmission signal. To do so, an isolation circuit is disposed between the receiver circuit and a transmission circuit. The isolation circuit may include multiple variable impedance devices and one or more antennas. The impedances of the variable impedance devices may be balanced such that a signal at a particular frequency or within a particular frequency band can pass through or is blocked by the isolation circuit. The isolation circuit may include one or more double balanced duplexers to achieve the improved isolation. The isolation circuit may also increase bandwidth available for wireless communications of the electronic device.

Wideband balanced duplexer

An electrical balance duplexer (EBD) may be used to isolate a transmitter and receiver that share a common antenna. By using impedance gradients to provide impedances that cause balance-unbalance transformers (balun) of the EBD to cut-off access to the common antenna rather than duplicate the antenna impedance, the EBD is balanced. Such cut-offs may have a lower insertion loss than an EBD that merely duplicates the antenna impedance to separate the differential signals of the receiver/transmitter from the common mode signal.

Electrical balanced duplexer-based duplexer

Systems and method are described for improving electrical isolation between a transmission signal and receiver circuitry of a transceiver communicating over one or more wireless networks via one or more shared antennas. The transceiver may include isolation circuitry to facilitate isolation of the transmission signal from the receiver circuitry. However, a leakage current of the transmission signal and noise signals may appear at the receiver circuitry. Presence of the leakage current or the noise signals in the receiver circuitry may cause interference with the reception signal. As such, the isolation circuitry may benefit from additional isolation between the transmission signal and the receiver circuitry to reduce an effect of the leakage current and the noise signals on the reception signal.
