A cementitious composite includes a first layer, a second layer, and a cementitious mixture disposed between the first layer and the second layer. The cementitious mixture includes (i) cementitious materials and (ii) a viscosity modifier and/or an accelerator. The cementitious materials provide a void fraction between 0.64 and 1.35. The void fraction is defined as the ratio of the volume of the voids within the cementitious mixture per unit area of the cementitious composite to the volume of the cementitious materials per unit area of the cementitious composite. The cementitious mixture is configured to absorb a mass of water that provides a maximum 28 day compressive strength of the cementitious composite. A ratio of the mass of the water relative to the mass of the cementitious materials of the cementitious mixture per unit area of the cementitious composite that provides the maximum 28 day compressive strength of the cementitious composite is between 0.25 and 0.55.

A cementitious composite material for in-situ hydration includes a mesh layer, a cementitious material, a sealing layer, and a containment layer. The mesh layer has a first side and a second side. The mesh layer includes a plurality of discontinuous fibers arranged in a nonwoven configuration and coupled with one another. The cementitious material is disposed within the mesh layer. The cementitious material includes a plurality of cementitious particles. The sealing layer is disposed along the first side of the mesh layer and coupled to the plurality of discontinuous nonwoven fibers. The containment layer is disposed along the second side of the mesh layer and configured to prevent the plurality of cementitious particles from migrating out of the mesh layer.

Nonwoven cementitious composite for In-Situ hydration

A cementitious composite material for in-situ hydration includes a first layer having a nonwoven configuration and a cementitious material disposed within the first layer. The first layer has a first side and an opposing second side, and the first layer includes a plurality of discrete nodes spaced relative to one another along a first direction and a second direction. The cementitious composite material further includes a second layer disposed along the first side of the first layer and a third layer disposed along the opposing second side of the first layer and configured to prevent at least a portion of the plurality of cementitious particles from migrating out of the first layer. The cementitious material includes a plurality of cementitious particles, the first layer and the second layer include flexible materials, and the second layer is coupled to the first layer at the plurality of discrete nodes.

One embodiment of the present disclosure relates to a cementitious composite material for in-situ hydration that includes a mesh layer, a cementitious material, a sealing layer, and a containment layer. The mesh layer includes a plurality of fibers arranged in a nonwoven configuration and forms a mat having a first side and an opposing second side. The cementitious material is disposed within the mesh layer and includes a plurality of cementitious particles. The sealing layer is disposed along the first side of the mesh layer and is coupled to the plurality of fibers. The containment layer is disposed along the opposing second side of the mesh layer and is configured to prevent the plurality of cementitious particles from migrating out of the mesh layer.

A packaged concrete additive includes ground, expanded perlite with a volume weighted mean particle size of approximately 10-100 &#x3bc;m. The perlite optionally includes at least one additional component to improve workability and compensate for the natural tendency of expanded perlite to absorb water from the concrete mix. The additional component can include: water; a superplasticizer such as polycarboxylates, naphthalene sulfonate, and melamine sulfonate; or a hydrophobic compound, such as salts of fatty acids, fatty acids, silanes, and siloxanes. The additive is a flowable powder and for convenience of use it is packaged in a bag that can be directly added to the concrete batch and disappears on mixing. Concrete containing this additive displays superior properties to conventional concrete. Expanded perlite is a readily available raw material and the finished concrete is suitable where high strength structural concrete must withstand high temperatures.

Processed mineral additive for reducing concrete permeability and increasing strength

Portland Cement-based concretes and mortars exhibit significant reduction in shrinkage cracking when combined with Magnesium Oxide (MgO), Shrinkage Reduction Admixtures (SRA) and Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP). However, MgO is a solid that reacts with water, SRA is a liquid, and SAP if not added properly could pull water out of the system and thus increase shrinkage. Unique admixture blends used as supplementary cementing materials that do not significantly affect concrete or cement strength properties of Portland cement itself address such issues. Proper ratios of MgO, SRA and/or SAP perform better against crack reduction when compared to commonly used Expansive Cements (EC).

Disclosed is a coating composition that includes an aqueous emulsion of a hydrophobic acrylic polymer, a water-soluble polymer, and an inorganic filler, and further includes a freezing-point lowering component to permit low temperature application. The freezing-point lowering component will preferably include a water-soluble, corrosion inhibiting salt. The coating composition will also optionally and preferably include an evaporation enhancing component to promote faster drying and skin formation at low temperatures. The coating composition may be coated onto a construction surface (e.g., by spraying) where, after drying, it will form a fully adhered barrier membrane that is water-vapor permeable, but air and liquid-water impermeable. Such membrane will preferably have sufficient coating thickness and sufficiently high elongation that it will bridge joints and cracks.

Vapor permeable barrier coating applicable at low temperature

An exemplary composition for enhancing water repellency in cementitious material comprises a hydrophobic material solute that is dissolved in a glycol ether solvent. Thus, the composition is provided in the form of a non-aqueous solution or emulsion wherein water is in a noncontinuous phase. The use of such compositions to modify cementitious compositions and the cementitious materials obtained thereby are also described.

Integrally waterproofed concrete

A durable concrete composition includes a cementitious material comprising cement and ground expanded perlite, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, and sufficient water for adequate workability. The resulting concrete displays a number of superior properties to conventional concrete, including extremely high thermal resistance coupled with high strength, low chloride ion permeability, and good early strength. The ground expanded perlite is a readily available material and the finished concrete is extremely cost effective for applications where a high strength structural concrete must withstand high temperatures. The mixture can be handled and placed by conventional methods and is compatible with existing conventional concrete additives.

Shaped waterproofing membranes having three-dimensional contours are useful for the 'reverse tanking' waterproofing of detail areas such as those presented by 'tiebacks,' pipes, pile caps, and other irregularities that occur on concrete formworks and other civil construction or building surfaces. A preferred method for making such membranes is to thermoform a membrane laminate, having a carrier support sheet, waterproofing adhesive, and optionally a protective coating layer, as a single unit.

Three-dimensional reverse tanking membranes

Lightweight cementitious foams of the invention have excellent dynamic and dimensional stability due to use of foaming system comprising polycarboxylate surfactant foam generating agent, foam stabilizer (e.g., PVOH), and shrinkage reducing admixture to inhibit plastic shrinkage and micro-cracking of cement. The foaming system can be used in conventional cement mortars or concretes as well as with exemplary cementitious slurry systems of the invention, which include an expansive agent, a cross-linking agent for the foam stabilizer. Microfibers can be used in the foam, slurry, or both, to prevent micro-cracking. Cementitious foams can be made without use of autoclave or lightweight aggregates to achieve enhanced compressive strength and thermal insulation properties that compare favorably with conventional foams and insulation materials at comparable densities.
