A film including 70 to 99 weight percent of an amorphous, high heat copolycarbonate having a glass transition temperature of at least 170&#xb0; C., preferably 170 to 230&#xb0; C., more preferably 175 to 200&#xb0; C., and 1 to 30 weight percent of a cyclic olefin copolymer each based on the total weight of polymers in the film; wherein the film has a dielectric breakdown strength of greater than 700 Volts/micrometer, preferably 700 to 1250 Volts/micrometer at 150&#xb0; C., is provided. Methods for the manufacture of the film and articles including the films are provided.

Capacitor films with high temperature performance, methods of manufacture, and articles thereof

A uniaxially-stretched, high yield extruded capacitor film comprising a miscible polymer blend comprising a polyetherimide and a polyester, wherein the polyetherimide comprises units derived from polymerization of an aromatic dianhydride with a diamine comprising a m-phenylenediamine, a p-phenylenediamine, or combinations thereof, wherein the polyetherimide is endcapped with a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic primary monoamine, wherein the polyester comprises repeating structural units derived from polymerization of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with a dihydroxy compound, and wherein the high yield extruded capacitor film comprises equal to or greater than about 90 wt. % of the miscible polymer blend entering an extruder used for manufacturing the capacitor film, based on the total weight of miscible polymer blend prior to entering the extruder.

Polyetherimide miscible polymer blends for capacitor films

A uniaxially-stretched, high yield extruded capacitor film comprising a miscible polymer blend comprising a polyetherimide and a poly(carbonate-arylate ester), wherein the polyetherimide comprises units derived from polymerization of an aromatic dianhydride with a diamine comprising a m-phenylenediamine, a p-phenylenediamine, or combinations thereof, wherein the polyetherimide is endcapped with a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic primary monoamine, wherein the poly(carbonate-arylate ester) comprises repeating bisphenol carbonate units and repeating arylate ester units, wherein the repeating bisphenol carbonate units and the repeating arylate ester units are different from each other, and wherein the high yield extruded capacitor film comprises equal to or greater than about 90 wt. % of the miscible polymer blend entering an extruder used for manufacturing the capacitor film, based on the total weight of miscible polymer blend prior to entering the extruder.

A polyetherimide film comprising a fluoropolymer and an extruded polyetherimide comprising units derived from polymerization of an aromatic dianhydride with a diamine selected from a meta-phenylene diamine, a para-phenylene diamine, and a combination thereof, wherein the polyetherimide is endcapped with an a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic primary monoamine; and wherein the polyetherimide film comprises at least 90 weight % of the polyetherimide before extrusion.

A film comprises a phthalimidine copolycarbonate comprising first repeating units and second repeating units different from the first repeating units, wherein the first repeating units are phthalimidine carbonate units andthe second repeating units comprise bisphenol carbonate units that are not the same as the first repeating phthalimidine carbonate units; and a second polycarbonate that is not a phthalimidine copolycarbonate; wherein the film has: a glass transmission temperature of greater than 170&#xb0; C.; a dielectric constant at 1 kHz, 23&#xb0; C. and 50% relative humidity of at least 3.0; a dissipation factor at 1 kHz, 23&#xb0; C. and 50% relative humidity of 1% or less; and a breakdown strength of at least 800 Volt/micrometer.
