Oral preparations of microcapsules and nanoparticles including an inhibitor of the mammalian target of rapamycin. The preparations are intended to assist with the treatment and prevention of cancer, neurocognitive dysfunction, genetically predisposed disorders, and age-related disorders. The embodiments discussed address the present need for alternative preparations or manufacturing processes that ensure efficacy while improving other performance characteristics such as storage stability, biodistribution, dosage cost, etc.

The present teachings provide novel polymers, and methods of preparing and using thereof. The novel polymers each includes a sulfide, sulfonyl, or sulfonyl bond. The novel polymer are used to make polycations and/or polyanions, which can be used, for example, to produce adhesive complex coacervates.

This invention is directed to an apparatus and method for producing microparticles comprising pharmacologically active agents and biodegradable polymers. The apparatus includes a spinning disk containing a reservoir in the center thereof and a flat inclined surface. The apparatus optionally includes serrations and/or a flat surface beneath the periphery of the disk that is parallel to the rotational axis of the disk. The invention is also directed to a method for producing microparticles containing pharmacologically active agents, using the spinning disk apparatus. Anti-calcification treatments for heart valves and vascular grafts

The invention provides methods and compositions for the delivery of bioactive factors to the systemic skeleton. The methods of the invention allow targeted delivery of bioactive factors to bone using nanocapsules. Timed release of bioactive factors may also be used to increase the efficacy of treatment. The methods of the invention have wide applicability for the treatment or prevention of bone-associated maladies.
