A threshold magnetometer includes a vertical cavity surface-emitting laser with a first material that is disposed in one of the layers. The first material is configured as an absorbent material or emission material to light propagating in the optical resonator. As an absorbent material, the first material absorbs light when exposed to radio frequency (RF) radiation at one or more resonant frequencies. As an emission material, the first material intensifies light when exposed to RF radiation at one or more resonant frequencies. The resultant intensity change can be detected and used to determine characteristics of an external magnetic field.

Vertical cavity surface-emitting laser threshold magnetometer

A magnetometer with responsive material is provided that includes a PT symmetric assembly. The PT symmetric assembly includes gain material and responsive material that are positioned to achieve PT symmetry. The responsive material is configured to shift a resonance frequency of point defects in response to a magnetic field. A microwave antenna is configured to generate a microwave field of varying frequencies that engage the responsive material. A controller is configured to adjust a tunable laser source that is input into the PT symmetric assembly based on an output of the PT symmetric assembly to cause a gain generated by the gain material to match a loss caused by the responsive material. The controller is further configured to determine a strength of the magnetic field by determining one of a deviation from the exceptional point and an amplitude of the gain needed to reach the exceptional point.

Magnetometer with responsive material

Systems for an integrated photonic responsive material sensor are described herein. In certain embodiments, a system includes a carrier wafer that includes a cavity formed in the carrier wafer. The carrier wafer also includes a responsive waveguide coupled to the cavity, the responsive waveguide formed from responsive material responsive to a force by shifting a resonance frequency of point defects in the responsive material in response to the force, wherein a pump light is directed to the responsive waveguide to prepare the responsive waveguide to absorb a probe light when exposed to a radio frequency at the point defect resonance frequency. Additionally, the system includes components coupled to the carrier wafer, wherein the components include a probe light source that generates the probe light, wherein the components are positioned in relation to the carrier wafer to couple the probe light into the cavity.

Integrated photonic responsive material sensor

A photonics device for threshold magnetometry includes an absorbent material with nonlinear optical susceptibility, such as a diamond material with nitrogen vacancy defects, that is disposed in an optical resonator. The optical resonator receives light from an input source and includes nonlinear optical properties that enable the resonator to undergo a nonlinear photon generation process at a certain threshold power level to generate photons at distinct frequencies from the input light. The absorbent material absorbs photons entering the resonator when excited, which causes the threshold power level to shift as a function of the absorption. This may cause the optical resonator to stop generating photons via the nonlinear photon generation process and output a change in power. The change in power can be used to determine the characteristics of a present magnetic field.

Integrated photonics magnetometer based on a nonlinear diamond-containing resonator

Systems and method for the delivery of a pump laser using optical diffraction are described herein. In certain embodiments, a system includes a substrate and a waveguide layer formed on the substrate. The waveguide layer includes a first waveguide of a first material configured to receive a probe laser for propagating within the first waveguide. The waveguide layer additionally includes a second waveguide configured to receive a pump laser for propagating within the second waveguide. Further, the waveguide layer includes one or more diffractors configured to direct a portion of the pump laser out of the second waveguide and through the first waveguide.

Delivery of pump laser into probe waveguide using optical diffraction

A sensor system comprises a laser source that emits a pump beam at a first wavelength and a probe beam at a second wavelength, and an optical means for receiving the pump and probe beams. The optical means is operative to generate a plurality of light beams, each having a different frequency, from the pump and probe beams. One or more cells receive the light beams from the optical means and allow passage of the light beams therethrough, with the cells containing alkali atoms. A dichroic filter is configured to receive the light beams from the cells. The dichroic filter separates pump beam light and probe beam light from the light beams. A detector array receives the probe beam light from the dichroic filter. The detector array includes a two-dimensional array of photosensors that map out transmission of respective light beams corresponding to the probe beam light through the cells.

A system includes a quantum light device comprising a light source configured to emit a plurality of pairs of photons, wherein each pair of photons of the plurality of pairs of photons occupies a quantum entangled state. The system also includes optical circuitry configured to receive a first set of photons and a second set of photons. A set of photon detectors may receive the first set of photons and the second set of photons from the optical circuitry. Additionally, the system may include processing circuitry configured to determine, based on a set of time signals corresponding to each photon detector of the set of photon detectors, whether a time delay value exists in which a Clauser, Home, Shimony and Holt (CHSH) parameter is greater than a threshold CHSH parameter value.

A continuously tunable radio frequency (RF) sensor system is provided. The system includes a pump laser system that includes first and second pump lasers, at least one frequency modulator to modulate frequencies of first and second laser light from the pump lasers to first and second select frequencies, a switch system to selectively pass one of the first and second laser light, an amplifier to amplify the passed laser light, a frequency doubler to double the frequency of the amplified laser light to generate pump light. A laser source lock system is in communication with the pump laser system to ensure a frequency of the pump light is referenced to atoms in a vapor cell and provide a probe light. The pump light and probe light are transmitted through the vapor cell. A detector measures the probe light that passed through the vapor cell.

Continuous tunable RF sensor using rydberg atoms with high transmissivity

Systems and embodiments for an integrated photonics tensor magnetometer are described herein. In certain embodiments, a system includes a plurality of magnetometers. The system also includes a laser carrier wafer coupled to each of the plurality of magnetometers that commonly distributes one or more lasers to each of the magnetometers in the plurality of magnetometers. Additionally, the system includes a plurality of photodetectors that detect light emitted from the laser carrier wafer and the plurality of magnetometers. Further, the system includes one or more processors that execute computer-executable instructions that cause the processor to monitor and control operation of the one or more lasers and calculate a magnetic field gradient based on the detected light from the magnetometers.

Systems and methods for an integrated photonics quantum vector magnetometer are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a device includes a substrate; a radio frequency emitter that emits energy in a range of radio frequencies; and a waveguide layer formed on the substrate. The waveguide layer includes a first waveguide of a first material, wherein a probe laser is propagating within the first waveguide; and a second waveguide, wherein the second waveguide is positioned proximate to the first waveguide along a coupling length such that a pump laser propagating within the second waveguide is coupled into the first waveguide along the coupling length, wherein the pump laser causes the first material to absorb the probe laser at one or more frequencies in the range of frequencies. Moreover, the device includes a processing device that calculates a magnetic field strength based on an identification of the one or more frequencies.

In an example, an optical gimbal is described, the optical gimbal comprising: a pulse generator configured to generate at least two coherent beam splitting pulses; a first optical beam director configured to tilt the vector of the beam splitting pulses by an angle &#x3b8;; an atom source configured to allow the beam splitting pulses to manipulate trapped atoms within the atom source; a processor configured to receive the angle &#x3b8;, and control the pulse generator and the beam director; a detector coupled to the atom source configured to measure a final population of the atoms in different states.

Optical gimbal

A magnetometer comprises a diode structure including a diamond material having free electrons and free charge carriers. An electrical circuit is coupled to the diode structure and is operative to apply a forward bias voltage to the diode structure. An optical detector is operative to collect and measure an electroluminescence produced by the diode structure after the forward bias voltage is applied to the diode structure. A processor is coupled to the optical detector and is operative to determine a magnetic field based on the measured electroluminescence produced by the diode structure.

Magnetometer device based on electrical pumping in nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond

A device includes a substrate and nanoscale fin formed from a first material, a RF emitter that emits energy in a range of radio frequencies, and a waveguide formed from a second material. The device further includes a bichromatic directional coupler configured to couple pump and probe laser light into the waveguide. The waveguide is positioned proximate to the nanoscale fin along a coupling length such that the pump laser light propagating within the waveguide is coupled into the nanoscale fin from evanescent wave overlap along the coupling length. The pump laser light causes the first material to absorb the probe laser light when energy emitted by the RF emitter is at one or more frequencies dependent on a magnetic field. The device further includes a processor configured to determine a magnetic field strength of the magnetic field based on an identification of the one or more frequencies.

Quantum vector magnetometer based on nanoscale fin waveguide

Apparatuses and methods for a four port atomic gyroscope are disclosed. Because of its four ports, a four port atomic gyroscope has an output separate from an input so as to increase sensitivity of the atomic gyroscope. Thus, smaller changes in rotation rate around a center axis of an optical waveguide loop of the four port atomic gyroscope can be detected.
