A method of protecting a wind turbine having a set of blades, each blade having a set of loci suitable for placement of a corresponding set of lightning receptors, against lightning strikes, includes applying to each blade a coating that surrounds at least one lightning receptor locus of the set, wherein the coating comprises paint in which has been mixed a conductive powder having a concentration by weight in the coating sufficiently low as to prevent formation of a conductive path through the coating but sufficiently high as to foster ionization of air along the coated exposed surface.

Surface coating for enhanced lightning protection of wind turbine blades and other composite structures

A lift control device actively controls the lift force on a lifting surface. The device has a protuberance near a trailing edge of its lifting surface, which causes flow to separate from the lifting surface, generating regions of low pressure and high pressure which combine to increase the lift force on the lifting surface. The device further includes a means to keep the flow attached around the protuberance or to modify the position of the protuberance in response to a command from a central controller, so as to provide an active control of the lift between a maximum value and a minimum value.

Active lift control device and method

A lift control device actively controls the lift force on a lifting surface. The device further includes an arrangement to keep the flow attached around the protuberance or to modify the position of the protuberance in response to a command from a central controller, so as to provide an active control of the lift between a maximum value and a minimum value.

A method for generating visible light and a deceptive signature pattern for an emissions producing asset is disclosed. The method comprises illuminating at least one lighting assembly of the asset in a pattern. The pattern produces visible light synchronous with a signature of a wavelength in a substantially similar range as normal emissions of the asset. The method also comprises modulating a radiant intensity of the signature of the at least one lighting assembly between a minimum radiant intensity and a maximum radiant intensity in a repetitive cycle and operating a controller to regulate the pattern.
