The present invention relates to a skin or surface disinfectant composition with broad spectrum antimicrobial activity comprising one or more essential oil (and/or one or more component thereof) and one or more fruit acid. The compositions of the invention may be used as non-toxic alternatives to conventional disinfectants or may be added to other antimicrobial agents to enhance their activity. The invention provides effective alternatives to harsher products which may be particularly useful in personal care and household products and where children and/or pet exposure may be a concern.

Skin and surface disinfectant compositions containing botanicals

The present invention relates to methods and compositions for rendering a surface resistant to bio-film formation by a combination of an alkanediol and an antimicrobial agent (and, optionally, an organic hydroxy acid). The invention provides for compositions which may be used to render surfaces bio-film resistant, articles having bio-film resistant surfaces, and methods for their preparation. The present invention may be advantageously applied to medical articles as well as articles used in non-medical contexts, such as child care or food preparation.

Bio-film resistant surfaces

Disclosed are compositions comprising antimicrobially effective low concentrations of benzyl alcohol, one or more essential oil and one or more botanical extract. The compositions of the application may be used in personal care products including wound care products or in veterinary use. In certain embodiments, compositions are provided having antimicrobial active agents that are substantially or essentially entirely derived from natural sources, thereby allowing the user to avoid harsh and/or toxic chemicals. This may be particularly advantageous in products for use by or on children or pets or for use in households or other environments occupied by children or animals.

Botanical antimicrobial compositions

The present invention relates to a preservative or antimicrobial compositions with broad spectrum antimicrobial activity comprising low concentrations of essential oil (and/or one or more component thereof) and a botanical extract in synergistic combination with a fruit acid and alkanediol, and optionally a solvent. The compositions of the invention may be used in personal care products such as creams or soap products.

Antimicrobial compositions containing low concentrations of botanicals

Disclosed herein are preservative compositions comprising effective amounts of an alcohol, such as benzyl alcohol ('BA'), ethyl alcohol or phenyl ethanol, and cinnamon bark oil ('CB'), cinnamaldehyde (&#x201c;CMA&#x201d;), thyme oil, thymol, galangal oil, botanical extracts or combinations thereof, each of which are preferably obtained from natural sources. These preservatives have been observed to show broad spectrum anti microbial efficacy in both anionic and cationic formulations. In certain non-limiting embodiments, such compositions further comprise tetrahydrocurcuminoid (&#x201c;THC&#x201d;), phenyl ethanol and/or orange oil (&#x201c;OR&#x201d;) or rosemary oil (&#x201c;RM&#x201d;).
