Described herein is a method for treatment of at least one surface of a substrate at least partially made of aluminum and/or an aluminum alloy, including at least a step of contacting the surface with an acidic aqueous composition (A) including one or more metal compounds (M) selected from the group of titanium compounds, zirconium compounds, and hafnium compounds and one or more linear polymers (P) containing (m1) hydroxyethyl- and/or hydroxypropyl-(meth)acrylate, (m2) vinylphosphonic acid, and (m3) (meth)acrylic acid in form of their polymerized monomeric units, the one or more linear polymers (P) being included in the acidic aqueous composition (A) in an amount of 50 to 5000 ppm. Also described herein is an acidic aqueous composition (A), a master batch to produce the acidic aqueous composition (A), a method of using the acidic aqueous composition (A) for treating surfaces, and substrates comprising the treated surfaces.

Method for treating surfaces of aluminum containing substrates

Described herein is a method for treatment of a metallic surface, including the step of (A) contacting the metallic surface with a first aqueous composition, and a subsequent step of (B) contacting the metallic surface subsequent to step (A) with a second aqueous composition. Also described herein is a kit-of-parts including the first and second aqueous composition and a kit-of-parts including master-batches of the first and second aqueous compostions. A method for coating metallic surfaces of substrates with surfaces of aqueous (coating) compositions in the form of a dispersion and/or a suspension containing at least one stabilized binder and a gelling agent, the cations having been dissolved out of the metallic surface of the substrate in a pretreatment stage and/or during the contacting. The present invention relates to an acidic aqueous composition for coating metallic surfaces, particularly of aluminium materials, that comprises, besides water and optionally further components, a) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of organoalkoxysilanes, organosilanols, polyorganosilanols, organosiloxanes and polyorganosiloxanes, b) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium, hafnium and aluminium compounds and silicon complex fluoride, and c) at least one copolymer which is stable at least in a segment of the pH range below 6 and which comprises, in alternating configuration, monomer units containing at least one carboxylic and/or phosphonic acid group and monomer units containing no acid group. The invention further relates to a corresponding coating method and to the use of the substrates coated by this method.

Composition for coating of metallic surfaces with good adhesion, in particular aluminum materials

Provided herein is a method for pretreating aluminum materials, particularly aluminum wheels, wherein an aluminum material is successively i) cleaned and subsequently rinsed, ii) optionally subjected to alkaline pickling and subsequently rinsed, iii) optionally contacted with an aqueous composition comprising at least one mineral acid, iv) optionally rinsed and v) contacted with an acidic aqueous composition comprising a) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium and hafnium compounds and b) at least one linear terpolymer prepared by controlled radical polymerisation and comprising vinylphosphonic acid monomeric units, hydroxylethyl- and/or hydroxylpropyl-(meth)acrylate monomeric units and (meth)acrylic acid monomeric units, vi) optionally rinsed, vii) optionally contacted with another aqueous composition, viii) optionally rinsed and ix) optionally dried. Further provided herein is a corresponding composition as well as the use of the materials treated according to the method.
