A computer implemented method includes receiving images of an eye through a vision correcting lens via a camera in a head mounted display device, obtaining an inverse transform corresponding to the vision correcting lens, applying the inverse transform to the received images to obtain uncorrected images of the eye, and performing eye tracking based on the uncorrected images of the eye.

A method of manufacturing is provided, including forming a metal frame of a head-mounted computing device shaped as a pair of eyeglasses. Forming the metal frame may include additively manufacturing the metal frame of the head-mounted computing device by performing laser sintering on aluminum powder or titanium powder. Forming the metal frame may further include removing an outer surface of the metal frame via a reductive process.

A gaze detection assembly comprises a plurality of infrared (IR) light emitters configured to emit IR light toward a user eye and an IR camera configured to sequentially capture IR images of the user eye. A controller is configured to, during a reference frame, control the plurality of IR light emitters to emit IR light toward the user eye with a reference intensity distribution. During the reference frame, an IR image is captured depicting a first glint distribution on the user eye. Based at least in part on the first glint distribution, during a subsequent frame, the plurality of IR light emitters are controlled to emit IR light toward the user eye with a subsequent intensity distribution, different than the reference intensity distribution. During the subsequent frame, a second IR image is captured depicting a second glint distribution on the user eye.

Examples are disclosed that relate to calibration data related to a determined alignment of sensors on a wearable display device. One example provides a wearable display device comprising a frame, a first sensor and a second sensor, one or more displays, a logic system, and a storage system. The storage system comprises calibration data related to a determined alignment of the sensors with the frame in a bent configuration and instructions executable by the logic system. The instructions are executable to obtain a first sensor data and a second sensor data respectfully from the first and second sensors, determine a distance from the wearable display device to a feature based at least upon the first and second sensor data using the calibration data, obtain a stereo image to display based upon the distance from the wearable display device to the feature, and output the stereo image via the displays.

One disclosed example provides a method for displaying a hologram via a head-mounted display (HMD) device. The method comprises, via a camera system on the HMD device, acquiring image data capturing a surrounding environment by detecting illumination light output by a projector located on a case for the HMD device. A distance is determined from the HMD device to an object in the surrounding environment based upon the image data. The method further comprises displaying via the HMD device a hologram, the hologram comprising a left-eye image and a right-eye image each having a perspective based upon the distance determined.

Examples are disclosed that relate to displaying a hologram via an HMD. One disclosed example provides a method comprising obtaining depth data from a direct-measurement depth sensor included in the case for the HMD, the depth data comprising a depth map of a real-world environment. The method further comprises determining a distance from the HMD to an object in the real-world environment using the depth map, obtaining holographic imagery for display based at least upon the distance, and outputting the holographic imagery for display on the HMD.

The techniques disclosed herein detect sensor misalignments in a display device by the use of sensors operating under different modalities. In some configurations, a near-to-eye display device can include a number of sensors that can be used to track movement of the device relative to a surrounding environment. The device can utilize multiple sensors operating under multiple modalities. For each sensor, there is a set of intrinsic and extrinsic properties that are calibrated. The device is also configured to determine refined estimations of the intrinsic and extrinsic properties at runtime. The refined estimations of the intrinsic and extrinsic properties can then be used to derive knowledge on how the device has deformed over time. The device can then use the refined estimations of the intrinsic and extrinsic properties and/or any other resulting data that quantifies any deformations of the device to make adjustments to rendered images at runtime.

The visor includes an IR opaque and visual light opaque portion coupled to a separately manufactured IR permissive portion. The visor also includes an IR opaque portion. The bathtub includes an IR permissive, but visual light opaque portion and a visual light permissive portion.

A device disclosed herein includes a display alignment sensing assembly positioned to receive a first signal output from a first display assembly and a second signal output from a second display assembly. A waveguide directs the second signal from the output of the second display assembly to the display alignment sensing assembly where the first signal and the second signal are merged into a combined signal received at an optical sensor. A display alignment tracker detects a positioning disparity between the first signal and the second signal within the combined signal and outputs a rendering position adjustment instruction to correct for the detected positioning disparity.

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are configured with an athermalized mounting suitable for securing and positioning and the PCBs within an inertial measurement unit (IMU). The PCBs include integrated circuit (IC) components, such as accelerometers and/or gyroscopes, which require relative positional stability within the IMU environment in order to provide accurate results. The athermalized mounting configuration of the PCB enables the PCBs to experience thermal expansion within the IMU without causing significant displacement of the IC relative to the IMU environment.

Projection and camera systems may employ a joint locking mechanism that may enable a user to reposition or move structures (arms, lenses, etc.) that are otherwise locked in position. The joint locking mechanism may include a touch-activated presence detector to sense a presence of an extremity of a user. In response to the presence detector sensing the presence, an actuator may unlock a joint or structure to enable movement of the joint or structure while the presence detector continues to sense the presence. In response to a detection of an absence of the extremity, the actuator may return to a locked state to prevent further movement of the joint or structure.
