This disclosure relates to techniques for estimating baseband power consumption and using the baseband power consumption estimation to select baseband operation features. According to some embodiments, one or more baseband power consumption modifiers occurring during an estimation window may be identified. Baseband power consumption of the wireless device during the estimation window may be estimated based on the identified baseband power consumption modifiers occurring during the estimation window. Baseband data throughput of the wireless device during the estimation window may also be estimated. One or more baseband operation characteristics may be selected based at least in part on the estimated baseband power consumption during the estimation window, possibly in conjunction with the estimated baseband data throughput during the estimation window, current wireless medium conditions, and/or other considerations.

Baseband power estimation and feedback mechanism

A device and method selects an antenna configuration. The method performed at a user equipment includes determining at least one communication functionality that is being used, each communication functionality configured to utilize at least one antenna in a multi-antenna arrangement of the user equipment. The method includes receiving a first indication of whether a cellular communication functionality is being used, the cellular communication functionality configured to utilize at least one antenna in the multi-antenna arrangement. The method includes receiving a second indication of whether a coexistence condition is present. The method includes determining an antenna configuration for the multi-antenna arrangement to be used by the determined communication functionality based upon the determined communication functionality, the first indication, and the second indication. The method includes configuring the multi-antenna arrangement for the determined communication functionality based upon the antenna configuration.

Device and method for antenna synchronization and selection

A station that performs a method to coordinate transmissions of scheduling requests (SR) with OnDurations of a connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) cycle. The station receives a packet at a packet arrival time relative to a schedule indicating the SR opportunities and onDurations, the SR opportunities occurring at a first interval, the onDurations occurring at a second interval, the first interval being less than the second interval. The station determines an SR opportunity subsequent to the packet arrival time that precedes an entirety of a subsequent onDuration, such that a transmission duration to transmit the SR and the packet maximally overlaps with the selected onDuration. A sleep mode of the processor of the station is used until a time associated with the selected SR opportunity. An active mode of the processor is used to transmit the SR and receive control channel information during the onDuration.

System and method for selective prevention of transmitting a scheduling request

A method to be performed at a station configured to connect to a Long Term Evolution radio access network (LTE-RAN) to utilize enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services using a Multicast-Broadcast Single-Frequency Network (MBSFN). The method including receiving a MBSFN subframe having a MBSFN subframe structure including a plurality of Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, a first one of the OFDM symbols having a first reference symbol inserted therein, a second one of the OFDM symbols having a second reference symbol inserted therein, determining a rate of change of channel conditions being experienced by the station and performing a non-destaggered channel estimation when the rate of change of channel conditions is greater than a predetermined threshold, the non-destaggered channel estimation using a first Channel Impulse Response (CIR) at the first OFDM symbol and a second CIR at the second OFDM symbol.

Device and method for adaptive channel estimation

Methods, apparatuses and computer readable media are described that configure wireless circuitry in a wireless communication device. The wireless communication device establishes a connection via one or more component carriers to a wireless network using wireless circuitry that includes multiple radio frequency receive signal chain. The wireless communication device monitors traffic activity and measures downlink radio frequency receive signal conditions for each component carrier. The wireless communication device reconfigures the wireless circuitry to use a number of RF receive signal chains that matches a maximum supportable modulation and coding scheme (MCS) value for each component carrier to MCS values assigned by the wireless network to the respective component carrier. The wireless communication device reduces the number of RF receive signal chains for a component carrier only when reliable decoding of the physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) and/or the physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel (PHICH) can be reliably decoded.

Dynamic wireless circuitry configuration for carrier aggregation component carriers

A wireless device comprises a primary antenna, a primary transceiver, one or more secondary antennas and one or more receive diversity chains. The receive diversity chains, in some embodiments, include transceiver capability. The wireless device measures and collects various statistics. Based on the statistics, the wireless device enables or disables one or more of the receive diversity chains with respect to a cellular radio access technology (RAT). A disabled receive diversity chain, in some instances is then powered down. During an interval when a receive diversity chain is disabled, the control logic periodically or on an event-driven basis enables a given receive diversity chain to probe channel quality indicator (CQI) and channel rank values. In some embodiments, a time interval for collecting a portion of the statistics, is adapted or backed off in anticipation of use of the receive diversity chain, based on traffic circumstances.

Adaptive receive diversity

A method for adaptively disabling receiver diversity is provided. The method can include a wireless communication device determining an active data traffic pattern; defining a threshold channel quality metric based at least in part on a threshold channel quality needed to support a threshold quality of service for the active data traffic pattern; comparing a measured channel quality to the threshold channel quality metric; and disabling receiver diversity in an instance in which the measured channel quality metric satisfies the threshold channel quality metric.

Adaptive use of receiver diversity

Methods and apparatus for adaptively adjusting temporal parameters (e.g., neighbor cell search durations). In one embodiment, neighbor cell search durations during discontinuous reception are based on a physical channel metric indicating signal strength and quality (e.g. Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI), Reference Signal Receive Quality (RSRQ), etc.) of a cell. In a second embodiment, neighbor cell search durations are based on a multitude of physical layer metrics from one or more cells. In one variant, the multitude of physical layer metrics may include signal strength and quality metrics from the serving base station as well as signal strength and quality indicators from neighbor cells derived from the cells respective synchronization sequences.

Methods and apparatus for power saving in discontinuous reception-adaptive neighbor cell search duration

Methods and apparatus for resuming radio channel measurements and estimations after an interruption in reception. In one exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, an adaptive solution is provided for channel estimation based at least in part on the reception interruption duration. In one variant, an LTE UE determines a windowing length and/or 'shape' for a time domain channel estimation algorithm based on at least the interruption duration. In an alternate variant, an LTE UE determines the interpolation coefficients for a filter based on the interruption duration.

Apparatus and methods for adaptively resuming radio channel estimation

Loading estimation of 3GPP networks. One or more metrics relating to a cell of a 3GPP network may be measured. Loading of the cell may be estimated based on the one or more metrics. The metrics may include metrics measured, estimated, or derived at multiple layers, possibly including one or more of physical layer, radio link control layer, radio resource control layer, or application layer metrics.

Load estimation in 3GPP networks

Performing cell re-selection by a device. A first cell on which to camp may be selected. The device may camp on the first cell in an idle-mode. The device may be configured to perform searches for neighboring cells according to an idle-mode timeline while camping on the first cell. The device may transmit a connection request to the first cell in order to transition the device from the idle-mode to a connected-mode via the first cell. One or more searches for neighboring cells may be performed according to a connected-mode timeline after transmitting the connection request, in response to transmitting the connection request. The one or more searches may be performed before the device establishes the connected-mode with the first cell.

Performing neighboring cell searches while transitioning to connected-mode

A station that generates data packets to be transmitted by the station such that the data packets spend a minimum amount of time in a buffer prior to transmission. The method includes receiving a specification for a connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) cycle, the specification indicating when a plurality of onDurations of the C-DRX cycle occurs, the onDurations having a predetermined interval therebetween, receiving data at a known time relative to the C-DRX cycle, determining a modification to a conversion process that converts the data to data packets such that the data packets are stored in a buffer at a subframe immediately preceding one of the onDurations subsequent to the known time, performing the conversion process based upon the modification and storing the data packets at the subframe immediately preceding the one of the onDurations. In one embodiment, the data is raw audio data and the data packets are audio packets.
