A network device includes one or more dies, wherein each die, of the one or more dies includes one or more packet forwarding components and a switch fabric component. The switch fabric component of a particular die, of the one or more dies, may be connected to the one or more forwarding components of the particular die, and may be configured to provide a switching plane for the one or more packet forwarding components of the particular die. A first die, of the one or more dies, may be connected to the one or more packet forwarding components of a second die of the one or more dies, and may be configured to provide a switching plane for the one or more packet forwarding components of the second die. The switch fabric component may be included in each of the one or more dies and the network device does not include a standalone switch fabric component.

Scalable multi-plane fabric-less connectivity for packet forwarding engine

An ingress fabric endpoint coupled to a switch fabric within a network device reorders packet flows based on congestion status. In one example, the ingress fabric endpoint receives packet flows for switching across the switch fabric. The ingress fabric endpoint assigns each packet for each packet flow to a fast path or a slow path for packet switching. The ingress fabric endpoint processes, to generate a stream of cells for switching across the switch fabric, packets from the fast path and the slow path to maintain a first-in-first-out ordering of the packets within each packet flow. The ingress fabric endpoint switches a packet of a first packet flow after switching a packet of a second packet flow despite receiving the packet of the first packet flow before the packet of the second packet flow.

Switch fabric packet flow reordering

A network device includes a memory, a plurality of packet processors, a switch fabric coupling the plurality of processors, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry is configured to receive a data stream to be transmitted on a switch fabric and determine a plurality of credit counts, each credit count being assigned to a respective subchannel of a plurality of subchannels. The packet processor is further configured to determine per-subchannel occupancy of the memory for the plurality of subchannels, select, based on the plurality of credit counts and the per-subchannel occupancy of the memory, a subchannel of the plurality of subchannels for transmitting a cell of a plurality of cells for the data stream, and output data for the cell to the memory for output by the selected subchannel.

Selective load balancing for spraying over fabric paths

A device may store a credit value for each of multiple output components. The device may receive packets from a network device via an input component. The device may cause the input component to queue the packets. The device may selectively dequeue a packet from the input component, to be sent to an output component, based on whether the credit value for the output component satisfies a credit threshold. The device may send the packet to the output component based on a destination of the packet when the packet is dequeued from the input component. The device may determine a size of the packet after the packet is dequeued. The device may update the credit value for the output component based on the size of the packet. The device may output the packet to another network device via the output component.

A communication device may include a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) calculator. The CRC calculator may determine a packet remainder of a packet based on a data path width associated with the communication device; append zeros to the packet remainder to generate an appended packet remainder equal in size to the data path width; compute a first CRC value for the appended packet; reverse bits of the computed first CRC value to obtain a reversed CRC value; multiply the bit reversed CRC value with a value based on a reciprocal CRC polynomial to generate a multiplication product; compute a second CRC value for the generated multiplication product based on the reciprocal CRC polynomial; and reverse bits of the second CRC value to generate a CRC for the packet.
