A flame retardant thermoplastic composition comprising in combination a polycarbonate homopolymer or copolymer comprising repeat carbonate units having the following structure: wherein Rand Rare independently at each occurrence a C-Calkyl, n and p are each an integer having a value of 1 to 4, and T is selected from the group consisting of C-Ccycloalkanes attached to the aryl groups at one or two carbons, C-Calkyl groups, C-Caryl groups, and C-Caryl alkyl groups; an impact modifier, wherein the impact modifier comprises wherein the impact modifier comprises a rubber modified thermoplastic resin comprising a discontinuous elastomeric phase dispersed in a rigid thermoplastic phase, and wherein the impact modifier has a specific mean particle size and Q value; and a flame retardant. The compositions have excellent scratch resistance as well as an improved balance of physical properties such as impact strength and spiral flow, while at the same time maintaining their good flame performance.

Flame retardant and scratch resistant thermoplastic polycarbonate compositions

A diagnostic test system for detecting the presence or absence of an analyte within a test sample is provided. For instance, the system may include a swab and a detection unit. The detection unit includes a first component that is capable of receiving the swab, the first component defining an insertion chamber within which a fluid is capable of being retained. The detection unit also includes a second component that defines a detection chamber within which an assay for detecting the presence or absence of the analyte is capable of being contained. The first component is rotatable relative to the second component from an inactive position to an active position. In the inactive position, the fluid remains substantially contained within the insertion chamber. In the active position, the fluid may flow from the insertion chamber to the detection chamber and contact the assay.

Swab-based diagnostic systems

A laminate contains a first layer and a second layer. The first layer contains a first composition that contains polycarbonate, polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, impact modifier and polyetherimide, wherein the polycarbonate constitutes at least about 50% by weight of the composition and a 3.2 millimeter thick, 7.6 centimeter square sample of the first composition produces a smoke density (Ds) of less than 275 after a 4-minute burn, measured according to ASTM E 662-03. The first composition may contain about 50 wt. % to about 97 wt. % polycarbonate, about 0.5 wt. % to about 25 wt. % polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, about 0.5 wt. % to about 20 wt. % impact modifier, and about 2 wt. % to about 15 wt. % polyetherimide, by weight. An article may contain a sheet or film made from such a composition. A laminate or article may be made to include a first layer or sheet that includes such a composition.

Low smoke polycarbonate composition and laminates, method of manufacture and product made therefrom

A polymer composition is disclosed, which comprises a matrix polymer, a fluoropolymer that may be at least partially encapsulated by an encapsulating polymer, and a filler. Methods for making the polymer compositions and articles made of such compositions are also disclosed. The compositions and article can have improved tensile modulus, ductility, and/or impact properties.

Polymer compositions, method of manufacture, and articles formed therefrom

A thermoplastic composition, contains a polycarbonate resin, a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, an aromatic vinyl copolymer, an impact modifier, and a mineral filler, wherein the composition has least about 40% ductility under multiaxial impact strength test conditions per ASTM D3763 at &#x2212;30&#xb0; C. Alternatively, a composition contains a polycarbonate resin, a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer in an amount sufficient to provide at least about 2.5 wt. % siloxane by weight of the composition, an aromatic vinyl copolymer comprising SAN, an impact modifier comprising ABS, and a mineral filler. Such compositions may be made by combining, by weight of the composition, polycarbonate resin, a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, an aromatic vinyl copolymer, an impact modifier, and a mineral filler, wherein the composition has at least 40% ductility under multiaxial impact strength test conditions per ASTM D3763 at &#x2212;30&#xb0; C. An article may be made from such a composition, optionally by molding, shaping or forming the composition to form the article.

Thermoplastic polycarbonate compositions, articles made therefrom and method of manufacture

A thermoplastic composition contains a polycarbonate resin, an aromatic vinyl copolymer, an impact modifier and a mineral filler, wherein the composition has a lightness L* of greater than or equal to about 70 under one or more of CIE D, CWF-2 or C illumination using a 2&#xb0; observer at 360 to 750 nanometers (nm), including specular components. Alternatively, a thermoplastic composition may contain a polycarbonate resin, a vinyl aromatic copolymer, an impact modifier and a mineral filler, and less than or equal to about 400 parts per million iron, by weight of the composition. An article may be formed by molding, extruding, shaping or forming such a composition to form the article.

Thermoplastic polycarbonate compositions with improved optical surface quality, articles made therefrom and method of manufacture

Positive electrode-active materials for use in lithium-ion and lithium-ion polymer batteries contain quaternary composite oxides of manganese, nickel, cobalt and aluminum where one of the four is present at levels of over 70 mol percent. The composite oxides can be lithiated to form positive electrode-active materials that are stable over at least ten charge/discharge cycles at voltage levels over 4.8 volts, and have capacities of over 200 mAh/g. Methods for producing the materials and electrochemical cells and batteries that include the materials are also provided.

Nickel-rich quaternary metal oxide materials as cathodes for lithium-ion and lithium-ion polymer batteries

A laminate structure (e.g., hot or cold wrap) formed from outer substrates that are bonded together to form at least one pocket is provided. The pocket is separated by an inner substrate such that the pocket defines an upper pocket region and a lower pocket region, each of which contains a reactant. Due to the presence of the inner substrate, the reactants do not intermix prior to activation of the laminate structure. To activate the laminate structure, a tension force is exerted so that the inner substrate ruptures, thereby allowing the reactants to freely intermix and produce the desired result. For example, in some instances, the reactants undergo and exothermic or endothermic reaction so that the laminate structure may be utilized as a hot or cold wrap.

A disposable face mask includes a mask body covering substantially a nose, mouth, and chin of a wearer, and an extension provided with the mask body. The extension is configured to encircle a back of a wearer's head and to substantially cover a wearer's cheeks, jaw, and ears. A substantial portion of the extension is formed from a resilient material treated with a repellant agent to prevent contaminants from entering or exiting such treated portion of the extension.

Disposable face mask

A flexible thermal therapy sleeve is disclosed. The sleeve features a first layer including an array of non-communicating chambers containing a first phase change material and a second layer, where the first layer is joined to the second layer to form at least a partial enclosure having an opening through which a thermoactive material may be inserted and removed.

There is provided a soap that contains an indicator that produces an observable change after a period of time to show that sufficient cleaning has been done or to indicate the thoroughness of the cleaning. The soap is preferably made from two components that produce a color and/or viscosity changes after about 30 seconds of use. This use indicating change is useful for, for example, teaching children to was their hands for a sufficient period of time.

A disposable shoe liner that is formed from a first substrate, a second substrate, and discrete regions of a functional material sandwiched therebetween is provided. In particular, the first and second substrates contain are fused together at certain portions such that fused portions and unfused portions are formed. The unfused portions form pockets that contain the functional material. In some embodiments, for example, the pockets contain activated carbon granules to provide comfort to the foot and to absorb odors exuded therefrom.

A method of producing a plurality of face masks is provided. The method includes the step of providing a continuous web that is of the same material throughout. A plurality of body portions are stamped from the continuous web so that each of the plurality of face masks has one body portion. A plurality of left extension portions are stamped from the continuous web so that each of the body portions has one left extension portion integrally attached thereto. A plurality of right extension portions are stamped from the continuous web so that each of the body portions has one right extension portion integrally attached thereto. A dispenser assembly for dispensing face masks is also provided. The assembly includes a core and a roll of face masks that are rotatably disposed on the core. As least one of the face masks includes a body portion and left extension portion that is integrally attached to the body portion. A right extension portion is integrally attached to the body portion.

Dispensing assembly for single piece face mask

A face mask is provided. The face mask includes a body portion that is configured to be placed over a mouth and at least part of a nose of a user. A first extension portion is present and is attached to the body potion. The first extension portion is configured to at least partially extend around at least a portion of a head of the user. A second extension portion is attached to the body portion. Also, a hook and loop type fastener is present and has a hook section and a loop section. One of the hook and loop sections is attached to the first extension portion, and the other of the hook and loop sections is attached to the second extension portion. Engagement of the hook section and the loop section causes the body portion, the first extension portion, and the second extension portion to be retained on the user. Disengagement of the hook section and the loop section causes the body portion, the first extension portion, and the second extension portion to be released from the user.
