Embodiments are directed to assessing performances of physical activities. Assessment engines may collect performance content that includes information associated with performances of activities. The assessment engines may employ classifiers to classify the performance content to determine occurrences of features of the performance content and classify assessment content to determine scores that are associated with features included in the performances. The assessment engines may provide correlation values associated with the performances based on historical performance content, assessment content, or scores. The assessment engine may provide a report that includes a localized evaluation of the performances based on the correlation values, performance content, assessment content, and scores. In some cases, the performance content may include videos of the performances.

Automated assessment of operator performance

Techniques for providing quotations obtained from text documents using natural language processing techniques are described. Some embodiments provide a content recommendation system ('CRS') configured to provide quotations by extracting quotations from a corpus text documents, and providing access to the extracted quotations in response to search requests received from users. The CRS may extract quotations by using natural language processing-based techniques to identify one or more entities, such as people, places, objects, concepts, or the like, that are referenced by the extracted quotations. The CRS may then store the extracted quotations along with identified entities, such as quotation speakers and subjects, for later access via search requests.

NLP-based systems and methods for providing quotations

Methods and systems for entity recognition and disambiguation using natural language processing techniques are provided. Example embodiments provide an entity recognition and disambiguation system (ERDS) and process that, based upon input of a text segment, automatically determines which entities are being referred to by the text using both natural language processing techniques and analysis of information gleaned from contextual data in the surrounding text. In at least some embodiments, supplemental or related information that can be used to assist in the recognition and/or disambiguation process can be retrieved from knowledge repositories such as an ontology knowledge base. In one embodiment, the ERDS comprises a linguistic analysis engine, a knowledge analysis engine, and a disambiguation engine that cooperate to identify candidate entities from a knowledge repository and determine which of the candidates best matches the one or more detected entities in a text segment using context information.

NLP-based entity recognition and disambiguation

Methods, systems, and techniques for creating, managing, and using query templates to facilitate the execution of relationship queries are provided. Example embodiments provide a Query Template System 'QTS', which enables users, a system, program code, or other people or code to define search tips (i.e., predefined searches) through the generation of query templates that can be used by other users or code, to perform relationship searches using IQL. In one embodiment, the QTS includes a QT editor, a QT dispatcher, a QT creation and index management system, and one or more QT data repositories and indexes. These components cooperate to create and maintain query templates and to search for and retrieve matching query templates. Techniques for selecting a digital image are disclosed. The techniques may include receiving a first set of digital images, analyzing the first set of digital images to extract first image features from each of the first set of digital images, accessing a user profile, comparing the extracted first image features to a preset list of image features, ranking each digital image of the first set, selecting each digital image having a ranking that exceeds a threshold, assigning a category to each selected digital image based on a comparison of each selected digital image to a category database of digital image categories, displaying each selected digital image with the assigned category, receiving an input from the user in response to the displaying, updating the user profile and the category database based on the input, and selecting at least one subsequent digital image based on the updated user profile and category database.

Intelligent determination of aesthetic preferences based on user history and properties

Methods, techniques, and systems for using natural language processing to recommend related content to an associated text segment or document. Example embodiments provide a NLP-based content recommender ('NCR') which uses NLP-based search techniques, potentially in conjunction with context or other related information, to locate and provide content related to entities that are recognized in the associated material. NCRs may be embedded as widgets, for example on Web pages to assist users in their perusal and search for information, provided by means of browser plug-ins or other application plug-ins, provided in libraries or in standalone environments, or otherwise integrated into other code, programs, or devices. Example embodiments provide a Syntactic Query Engine ('SQE') that parses, indexes, and stores a data set as an enhanced document index with document terms as well as information pertaining to the grammatical roles of the terms and ontological and other semantic information. In one embodiment, the enhanced document index is a form of term-clause index, that indexes terms and syntactic and semantic annotations at the clause level. The enhanced document index permits the use of a traditional keyword search engine to process relationship queries as well as to process standard document level keyword searches. In one embodiment, the SAS provides a Sentiment Analysis Engine, an SAS API, and one or more user interface tools for presenting sentiment analysis.

NLP-based sentiment analysis

A method for characterizing a musical recording as a set of scalar descriptors, each of which is based on human perception. A group of people listens to a large number of musical recordings and assigns to each one many scalar values, each value describing a characteristic of the music as judged by the human listeners. Typical scalar values include energy level, happiness, danceability, melodicness, tempo, and anger. Each of the pieces of music judged by the listeners is then computationally processed to extract a large number of parameters which characterize the electronic signal within the recording. Algorithms are empirically generated which correlate the extracted parameters with the judgments based on human perception to build a model for each of the scalars of human perception. These models can then be applied to other music which has not been judged by the group of listeners to give to each piece of music a set of scalar values based on human perception. The set of scalar values can be used to find other pieces that sound similar to humans or vary in a dimension of one of the scalars.
