A downhole tool, such an interval control valve, for use in a well has multiple motors and two drive assemblies to displace a yoke. A member, such as a sliding sleeve, of the downhole tool is connected to the yoke and can be actuated in response to the displacement of the yoke. The drive assemblies include first and second rotatable screws, and the yoke is disposed on the screws. Each motor can produce drive to rotate a respective screw. A respective gear is rotatable in association with at least the rotation of its associated screw. An intermediate gear is engaged between these two gears. The intermediate gear interconnects the rotation of the two screws, forcing them to rotate at the same speed. Likewise, the intermediate gear balances the drive of the motors, forcing the two screws to rotate at the same speed.

A valve assembly can include a housing having multiple longitudinally spaced apart ports, a sleeve longitudinally displaceable in the housing, and at least one deflector ring configured to block flow through an annular space formed between the housing and an outer surface of the sleeve. The deflector ring is positioned longitudinally between an adjacent pair of the ports. Another valve assembly can include a housing having a port, a sleeve longitudinally displaceable in the housing, and a nozzle having an orifice in communication with the port. The nozzle is secured to the housing.

A well barrier can include an inner mandrel, a flow passage, and a releasably secured plug. The plug blocks fluid flow through the flow passage, and includes a shoulder that prevents the plug from displacing completely through the inner mandrel. A method of treating a subterranean well can include treating a deeper zone, setting a well barrier in the well between the deeper zone and a shallower zone, then treating the shallower zone, and then applying a pressure differential from the deeper to the shallower zone, thereby displacing a plug out of the well barrier. A well treatment system can include a well barrier with a plug releasably secured to an inner mandrel. The plug is released by application of a pressure differential in a longitudinal direction, and fluid communication is unblocked by application of a pressure differential in an opposite longitudinal direction.

A well plug for use in a subterranean well can include a generally tubular mandrel, a seal element positioned on the mandrel, and a setting rod releasably secured relative to the mandrel by an annular shaped shear ring or a bonded sleeve. The setting rod is releasable for longitudinal displacement relative to the mandrel in response to a predetermined shear force applied to the shear ring or bonded sleeve. A method of setting a well plug in a subterranean well can include displacing a generally tubular mandrel with a setting rod relative to an outer housing of the well plug, outwardly extending a seal element of the well plug in response to the displacing, and shearing a releasable attachment securing the setting rod relative to the mandrel, the releasable attachment comprising an annular shaped shear ring, or a bond between a sleeve and a surface.

A downhole tool for use in a wellbore includes a cone, a cone adapter at least partially disposed in the cone, a shoe member, and a slip assembly disposed between the cone and the shoe member. A mandrel extends through the cone adapter and attached to the shoe member. The cone adapter is retrievable with the mandrel.

A method and apparatus for a downhole tool including a retained object. The downhole tool includes a longitudinal axis, a cone including a seat having an opening, and a shoe member. The downhole tool further includes a slip assembly disposed between the cone and the shoe member. The downhole tool further includes a mandrel disposed in the opening of the seat. The downhole tool further includes an attachment member attaching the mandrel to the shoe member, wherein the attachment member is eccentric to the longitudinal axis. The downhole tool further includes a setting sleeve abutting the cone. The downhole tool further includes the object, wherein the object configured to engage with the seat, and wherein the object is disposed between the mandrel and the setting sleeve.

A downhole tool for engaging a downhole tubular includes a slip assembly. The slip assembly may include a slip body; a slip insert disposed in the slip body, the slip insert comprising a dissolvable metal alloy; and a plurality of gripping elements coupled to the slip insert, the gripping element configured to engage the downhole tubular.

A downhole tool, such as a fracture plug used during a fracture operation, installs in a downhole tubular, such as casing. The tool has a mandrel with a sealing element disposed thereon between uphole and downhole ends. Slip assemblies on the mandrel can be moved to engage the downhole tubular. The slip assemblies have inserts. The inserts have a body defining an internal cavity at least partially therein. The body is composed of a ceramic material having a first density of about 3 g/cc to about 6 g/cc. A volume of the insert can be about 0.4 cc to about 0.6 cc, and a mass of the insert can be about 1.2 g to about 3.6 g. In one example, the ceramic material is silicon nitride. The cavity can be filled with a low density filler material.

A downhole apparatus for use in a tubular include a mandrel, a first slip, a cone, and a seal element. The mandrel, which can be permanent or temporary, has a first end shoulder. The first slip is disposed on the mandrel adjacent the first end shoulder, and the cone is disposed on the mandrel adjacent the first slip. The cone is movable relative to the first end shoulder to engage the first slip toward the tubular. The seal element is disposed on the mandrel adjacent the cone. At least a portion of the seal element is composed of a dissolvable metallic material and is expandable outward from the mandrel. The expanded portion of the seal element forms a metal seal against the tubular and seals off fluid communication in the annular space between the seal element and the tubular.

A downhole apparatus for use in a tubular can include: a mandrel having a first end shoulder; a first slip disposed on the mandrel adjacent the first end shoulder and abutting against a mule shoe; a cone disposed on the mandrel adjacent the first slip and movable relative to the first end shoulder to engage the first slip toward the tubular; a seal element disposed on the mandrel adjacent the cone and being expandable outward from the mandrel; and wherein at least one component selected from the group consisting of the mandrel, the first slip, the cone, the seal element, and the mule shoe is a filler-doped degradable component that comprise a degradable material and a filler.

A downhole apparatus for use in a tubular includes a mandrel, a slip, a wedge, a cone, and seal elements. The mandrel, which can be permanent or temporary, has an end shoulder. The slip is disposed on the mandrel adjacent the first end shoulder, and the wedge is disposed on the mandrel between the cone and the slip. The cone is movable relative to the end shoulder to engage the slip toward the tubular. The seal elements are disposed on the wedge and slip and fit between each other. The fit seal elements seal against the tubular and seas off fluid communication in the annular space between the plug and the tubular.

A downhole tool, such as a fracture plug used during a fracture operation, installs in a downhole tubular, such as casing. The tool has a mandrel with a sealing element disposed thereon between uphole and downhole ends. Slip assemblies on the mandrel can be moved to engage the downhole tubular. When the tool is used as a bridge plug, the uphole assembly supports the sealing element compressed, and the downhole assembly supports fluid pressure downhole of the tool. The slip assemblies have inserts composed of at least two materials that are different from one another and are geometrically separate from one another. In addition or as an alternative, the slip assemblies can be composed of at least two different materials that are geometrically separate from one another.

A downhole tool, such as a composite bridge plug, has a packing element disposed on a mandrel of the tool adjacent an activating element, such as a cone and slip arrangement. The packing element includes a packer and at least one backup ring. The packer is composed of packing material and is compressible on the downhole tool at least in part due to the activating element. The at least one backup ring limits extrusion of the packer. The at least one backup ring is molded into the packing material at one end of the packer adjacent the activating element. Preferably, each end of the packer has at least two backup rings molded therein, and slots in the adjacent backup rings are preferably offset at the ends.
