A bracket for holding a disk drive or other subassembly in a chassis may have a pair of rails that lie under the disk drive when the disk drive is coupled to the bracket. A bracket assembly may include an injector pivotably coupled to a base of the bracket. The injector may include a pin that engages a slot in the chassis to urge the bracket assembly into the chassis. The injector and base may, include latch elements for latching the injector to the base. A latch element of the base may be integrally formed with a body of the base.

Hard disk drive bracket

A module includes a panel having a groove. An injector/ejector may be coupled to the panel. The injector/ejector may reside in the groove when the injector/ejector is in a closed position. A latch member may be coupled to the panel. The latch member may selectively hold the injector/ejector in the closed position in the groove. A body of the latch member may reside in a groove in the panel. In certain embodiments, latch member for a module injector/ejector is attached to the panel using a snap-on arrangement. In certain embodiments, the panel for a module may be made of a flat sheet having a fold that defines the groove.

Electronic equipment module with latching injector/ejector

A mechanism may couple an electrical assembly with circuit boards in a computer system. The mechanism may include injectors on the electrical assembly and a receptacle on each of the circuit boards. The injectors may engage the receptacles to couple header connector parts on the electrical assembly with receptacle connector parts on the receptacles. The electrical assembly may include a latch device that holds the injectors in a closed position after injection of the electrical assembly.

Inject/eject mechanism for circuit boards

An interlock system may control a sequence of installation of circuit board assemblies into a chassis and/or removal of the circuit board assemblies from the chassis. In one embodiment, an interlock member may inhibit installation of one circuit board assembly until another circuit board assembly has been fully installed in a chassis. An interlock member may also inhibit removal of the one circuit board assembly until another circuit board assembly has been removed. In some embodiments, an interlock member may inhibit use of injector/ejectors to inject or eject a circuit board.

Board interlock ejection system

An apparatus for controlling removal of a component from a chassis may include an engaging member and a control member. The engaging member may engage a portion of the chassis when the component is withdrawn to a predetermined position in the chassis to inhibit removal of the component from the chassis. The control member may be operated to disengage the component from the chassis such that the user can remove the component from the chassis. The control member may be a handle that disengages the engaging member from the chassis when the handle is deployed.

Component removal apparatus

A bracket having two parallel sides and an interconnecting crosspiece is attached to a disk drive or similar peripheral with the sides of the bracket extending longitudinally of the sides of the drive and the crosspiece extending across the front of the drive. A chassis of a computer or the like has internal parallel sides formed with horizontal guides to receive the bracket, a substantially open front face and an internal connector engageable with a mating connector on the rear of the drive when the bracket is fully inserted in the chassis. The sides of the bracket have features to protect the drive from horizontal and vertical vibrations. A handle is pivoted to the crosspiece near one end moveable between at least three positions: a first or latched position parallel to the crosspiece, a second position swinging out at about a 15&deg; angle and a third position at about a 45&deg; angle. In second position a first point on the end of the handle engages the front edge of the side and a second point is about to enter a slot in one side of the chassis. As the handle is pivoted toward third position the second point engages a margin of the slot and pulls the two connectors apart. To reinsert the drive, the positions of the handle are reversed. A spring biased latch engages a hook on the handle. A second spring opens the unlatched handle from the first to second positions.

A combination of a plastic part and metal part functions as a fastener to attach a panel to the flange of a portion of a chassis for electronic equipment or the like. The panel is formed with a counterbored hole and has an arcuate groove outside the counterbore on the outside of the panel and angularly spaced dimples on the underside. The fastener is a peripherally flanged hollow cylindrical member fitting into the hole and counterbore. It has a partially closed bottom and opposed openings in the cylindrical walls. A detent slants upward-outward from the bottom through one of the openings. A metal clip attaches to the cap, having an inverted U-shape having a web and two depending sides which fit through the openings. The top has a shoulder which locks outside the detent to hold the parts assembled and has a locking extension beyond the shoulder. One of the sides has an arcuate arm approximately in the plane of the top having a dimple which engages the dimples on the underside of the panel to hold the fastener in positions of adjustment. The cap has a transverse partition with its bore formed with a screwdriver slot aligned with an enlarged similar slot in the top of the clip. Thus the fastener may be turned to a position where the projection of the top of the clip engages under the flange of the chassis.

The present invention pertains to standoff devices used to hold a circuit board a fixed distance from a mounting surface such as another circuit board. The present invention divides the standoff into two interacting members. The first member has a base and two arms disposed to define a receiving slot between the two arms. The second member is comprised of a head portion, a tapered portion, and a tongue portion. The second member is slidably disposed within the receiving slot of the first member, and is capable of being locked into place in two distinct locking positions within this receiving slot. By sliding the second member from the first locking position to the second locking position, the standoff is locked into place between the circuit board and the mounting surface. The present invention discloses a secure locking system utilizing locking projections and cooperating depressions to accomplish this locking function. The present invention further pertains to improved methods of installing standoffs resulting from such a locking standoff.
