Disclosed herein are coated articles comprising a substrate having at least one surface, and a coating composition disposed in a substantially continuous layer on at least one surface of the substrate, wherein the coating composition is present in an amount sufficient to increase the oxygen barrier property of the substrate, and the coating composition comprises a polysaccharide derivative. The polysaccharide derivative can comprise a poly alpha-1,3-glucan ether compound, such as a quaternary ammonium alpha-1,3-glucan ether. Also disclosed is packaging comprising the coated article.

Polysaccharide coatings with oxygen barrier properties

Disclosed herein are polysaccharide-elastomer masterbatch compositions and processes for preparing the masterbatch compositions. One method comprises a step of a) mixing i) an aqueous polysaccharide dispersion, or ii) a basic aqueous polysaccharide solution, with a rubber latex solution containing a rubber component to form a mixture. The method further comprises the steps of: b) coagulating the mixture obtained in step a) to produce a coagulated mass; and c) drying the coagulated mass obtained in step b). The masterbatch compositions are useful in preparing rubber-containing articles.

Polysaccharide-elastomer masterbatch compositions

Compositions are disclosed herein comprising a graft copolymer having (i) a backbone comprising dextran with a molecular weight of at least about 100000 Daltons, and poly alpha-1,3-glucan side chains comprising at least about 95% alpha-1,3-glucosidic linkages. Colloidal dispersions of poly alpha-1,3-glucan based polymers

Nonwoven webs formed from modified 1,3-&#x3b1;-D-glucan polymer and methods of forming the nonwoven webs are disclosed. The modified 1,3-&#x3b1;-D-glucan polymer can have a number average degree of polymerization in the range of from 55 to 10,000. The nonwoven webs can be used for personal hygiene wipes, filtration media, apparel or other uses.

Compositions are disclosed herein comprising a rubber component and a polysaccharide, wherein the polysaccharide comprises i) poly alpha-1,3-glucan; ii) poly alpha-1,3-1,6-glucan; iii) water insoluble alpha-(1,3-glucan) polymer having 90% or greater &#x3b1;-1,3-glycosidic linkages, less than 1% by weight of alpha-1,3,6-glycosidic branch points, and a number average degree of polymerization in the range of from 55 to 10,000; iv) dextran; v) a composition comprising poly alpha-1,3-glucan ester compounds as disclosed herein; or vi) water-insoluble cellulose having a weight-average degree of polymerization (DPw) of about 10 to about 1000 and a cellulose II crystal structure. The compositions can be used in articles such as a tire, a belt, a seal, footwear, a coating, a film, or an adhesive.

Rubber compositions comprising polysaccharides

Disclosed herein are nonwoven webs comprising a nonwoven substrate and a binder comprising a polysaccharide. In one embodiment, the polysaccharide can comprise poly alpha-1,3-glucan, a poly alpha-1,3-glucan ether compound as disclosed herein, a poly alpha-1,3-glucan ester compound as disclosed herein, a graft copolymer comprising a backbone comprising dextran and poly alpha-1,3-glucan side chains, a crosslinked graft copolymer comprising a backbone comprising dextran and poly alpha-1,3-glucan chains, or a mixture thereof. Also disclosed are articles comprising the nonwoven webs, and methods of making the nonwoven webs.

Molded articles are disclosed herein, the molded article comprising a polysaccharide, wherein the polysaccharide comprises i) poly alpha-1,3-glucan; ii) poly alpha-1,3-1,6-glucan; iii) a graft copolymer that comprises (A) a backbone comprising dextran with a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of at least about 100000 Daltons, and (B) poly alpha-1,3-glucan side chains comprising at least about 95% alpha-1,3-glucosidic linkages; or iv) a composition comprising a poly alpha-1,3-glucan ester compound as disclosed herein. Optionally, the molded articles can further comprise a plasticizer and/or starch. The molded articles can be useful as a container, a handle, packaging, a tray, a bottle, a cup, a sheet, a disposable food packaging item, an automotive part, a casing for an electronic device, or a toy.

Coating compositions that can provide grease and oil resistant coating for substrates, especially paper and textile substrates, are disclosed. The coating compositions comprise water insoluble &#x3b1;-(1,3-glucan) polymer and/or dextran polymer and optionally other additives.
