An insert for use in a knee prosthesis is disclosed. In one embodiment, the insert includes a medial compartment and a lateral compartment. The medial compartment includes a top surface having a concave surface or curve with a more posterior sulcus and increased anterior lip. The lateral compartment includes a top surface having at least a segment or portion with a convex surface or curve. Thus arranged, the insert is arranged and configured to provide improved stability for varying grades of PCL deficiencies compared to existing inserts that have a mid-line sulcus and lateral convexity. In addition, the insert provides improved lateral posterior translation compared to existing designs with a concave or flat lateral articulation that lack a lateral posterior convexity.

Insert for use in a knee prosthesis

A method for optimizing a knee arthroplasty surgical procedure includes receiving pre-operative data comprising (i) anatomical measurements of the patient, (ii) soft tissue measurements of the patient's anatomy, and (iii) implant parameters identifying an implant to be used in the knee arthroplasty surgical procedure. An equation set is selected from a plurality of pre-generated equation sets based on the pre-operative data. During the knee arthroplasty surgical procedure, patient-specific kinetic and kinematic response values are generated and displayed using an optimization process. The optimization process includes collecting intraoperative data from one or more surgical tools of a computer-assisted surgical system, and using the intraoperative data and the pre-operative data to solve the equation set, thereby yielding the patient-specific kinetic and kinematic response values. A visualization is then provided of the patient-specific kinetic and kinematic response values on the displays.

These systems and methods may utilize patient-specific information gathered pre-operatively in conjunction with optimization algorithms to determine an optimal implant design and an optimal position and orientation for implantation of the implant into the particular patient's joint.

A system and method for pre-operatively optimizing a fit of an orthopaedic implant relative to a particular individuals anatomy is provided. The method includes: receiving information including a three-dimensional anatomic model of the individuals anatomy; computing a periphery of a simulated resection portion of the anatomic model without reference to any abnormal morphology; identifying a preliminary size for an orthopaedic implant component for use on the simulated resection surface; initially positioning the orthopaedic implant model relative to the simulated resection portion; generating random point sets around the peripheries of the simulated resection portion and the orthopaedic implant model; utilizing a position optimizer to determine whether the position of the orthopaedic implant periphery relative to the simulated resection portion periphery is optimal; determining whether the selected orthopaedic implant model results in overhang; and verifying the position of the orthopaedic implant and/or the size of the orthopaedic implant.

Systems and methods for optimizing fit of an implant to anatomy

A method for creating a patient-specific surgical plan includes receiving one or more pre-operative images of a patient having one or more infirmities affecting one or more anatomical joints, three-dimensional anatomical model of the one or more anatomical joints is created based on the one or more pre-operative images. One or more transfer functions and the three-dimensional anatomical model are used to identify a patient-specific implantation geometry that corrects the one or more infirmities. The transfer functions model performance of the one or more anatomical joints as a function of anatomical geometry and anatomical implantation features, surgical plan comprising the patient-specific implantation geometry may then be displayed.

A tibial insert includes a base and a post extending from the base along a longitudinal axis. The post has a medial surface, a lateral surface, a height along the longitudinal axis, and a rotational offset in a superior-inferior aspect of the post. The medial surface has a medial section, and the lateral surface has a lateral section oriented substantially parallel to the medial section. The medial section and the lateral section each have a width in a substantially anterior-posterior direction that is sufficient to enable varus/valgus constraint over a flexion/extension range from extension to about 90 to 120 degrees of flexion when the tibial insert is mated with a femoral component.

Knee prosthesis

A gauge assembly includes a distal femur gauge including medial and lateral condyle paddles each having a shape and size corresponding to a pre-operative planned distal resection of a patient's femur, and a tibial cutting block connected to the distal femur gauge. The condyle paddles include features, for example, pin-receiving holes, that permit intra-operative anterior-posterior and/or internal-external adjustment of the position of the distal femur gauge. The tibial cutting block includes features, for example, pin-receiving slot and holes, that permit fixing of the varus-valgus and flexion-extension degrees of freedom prior to fixing the internal-external and medial-lateral degrees of freedom.
