A distributed lighting control system has a plurality of independently controlled light fixtures. Each light fixture of the plurality of independently controlled light fixtures includes: an illuminating element; driver circuitry operatively coupled to the illuminating element and configured to provide power to the illuminating element; one or more sensors; and a processor operatively coupled to the one or more sensors and the driver circuitry. The processor is configured to: receive signals from the one or more sensors; and control the driver circuitry to provide power to the illuminating element to generate illumination based on the received signals from the one or more sensors. Illumination provided by each light fixture of the plurality of independently controlled light fixtures is controlled independently of the illumination provided by others of the plurality of independently controlled light fixtures.

Approaches to both pulling and pushing digital media content, such as movies, electronic books, music, games and the like, are addressed. Hybrid systems are also addressed. A mechanism for selecting particular digital media content by a user, such as a particular movie, for example, is utilized in pull approaches. A mechanism for identifying users who have opted in is employed in push approaches. Digital media content is provided by a media server to one or more high speed wireless radios which transmit that content to users' mobile devices.

Methods and apparatus for downloading digital content

A transceiver in a lighting system may include a digital isolation component having multiple channels and an isolation barrier. The digital isolation component may accept an outbound digital signal or an inbound digital signal. On a first channel, the outbound signal may be modulated with a high-frequency signal, and provided across the isolation barrier to the non-isolated side. On the non-isolated side, a modified outbound signal may be generated based on the modulated high-frequency signal. On a second channel, the inbound signal may be modulated with a high-frequency signal that is provided across the isolation barrier to the isolated side. On the isolated side, a modified inbound signal may be generated based on the modulated high-frequency signal. The transceiver may include a voltage level comparator configured to adjust voltage levels of the signals, or an edge transition or duty cycle balancer configured to adjust edges of the signals.

A terminal and methods are presented for displaying customer information about a transaction occurring on a point of sale terminal on a customer's portable computing device. Creating a virtual session on the portable computing device permits additional information to be presented to the customer. The invention allows the virtual session to be started and ended without the need for assistance by an operator for the point of sale terminal.

A customer engages in a transaction at a Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminal, which necessitates obtaining a signature from the customer to complete the transaction. A device integrated or interfaced to the POS terminal electronically captures one or more gestures made by the customer in the air representing a signature of the customer. The device processes one or more images or video representing the gestures into the signature and records the signature to complete the transaction.

The examples herein offer an improved, more integrated implementation of lighting control and building management control, e.g. within the same gateway or cloud computing/control element(s), via an integrated software architecture. A visualization platform of the software architecture provides an integrated user interface via network communication of the computing element with a user terminal device. The integrated user interface offers the user an integrated view of status of building automation control (BAC) appliances and luminaires within the premises, as well as integrated access to control operations of the BAC appliances and the luminaires. For example, the overall system of integrated lighting and building management control may offer a 'single pane of glass' type user interface for lighting and other managed operations in the premises. Also, the architecture may utilize a broker for publish-and-subscribe communications, for exchange of information between lighting and building management application and with the visualization platform.

Various embodiments herein each include at least one of systems, methods, data structures, and software for document image processing within a device such as a retail scanner. One such embodiment, in the form of a method, includes receiving a document image from an imaging device of a scanner and determining a type of the document represented in the document image. The document image may then be processed to obtain document metadata and the document image and metadata representative of the document metadata and document type are added to a data structure. This method may further include adding transaction-related metadata to the data structure. The data structure may then be stored on the scanner, transmitted via local communications link to a host device, transmitted via a network to a database for storage, or transmitted via a network to another system for one or both of processing and storage.

A portable device which assists shoppers. The device identifies items of merchandise, and retrieves information about the items from a remote location. The items can be identified based on their labels, by image recognition, by their location, by the shopper, or by other approaches. This additional or enhanced information about the items can then be overlaid on the real-time display of the portable device, such that the shopper has access to said information and can associate it easily to the relevant items.

A payment device with data entry keys which are obscured from view when not in use. An example payment device includes a plurality of data entry keys for recording data during a transaction, and a backlight for illuminating the data entry keys. A secure controller is configured to activate the backlight to reveal locations of the data entry keys for data entry, receive and encrypt entered data from the data entry keys, and to deactivate the backlight following the data entry.

Systems and techniques for transferring data to a storage device. A storage device includes storage, a processor, and a wireless transceiver, as well as a connector allowing the storage device to operate according to an appropriate standard when connected to a playback or data device. The storage device can communicate with a data transfer station to wirelessly receive data from the station. A user may select data to be transferred to a removable media device, and the station transfers the data over a wireless connection. The removable media device stores the data in memory as it is received. Once the data has been received, the data can be played or otherwise used in any playback or data device to which the storage device may be connected for use as a memory device.

A product recognition system comprises a product image data collector arranged to capture image data which is representative of an image of a product item. The product recognition system also comprises an acoustic energy source arranged to emit acoustic energy towards the product item. The product recognition further comprises a product acoustic data collector arranged to (i) capture acoustic energy deflected from the product item, (ii) process the captured acoustic data which has been deflected from the product item to provide product acoustic data which is representative of one or more characteristics of the product item, and (iii) compare the product acoustic data with a store of reference acoustic data to provide one or more subsets of items against which the captured image data can be compared to identify the product item.
