Systems and methods for classifying radio frequency signal modulations include receiving, at a consolidated neural network, a complex quadrature vector of interest representative of a baseband signal derived from a radio frequency signal, generating multiple data representations of the vector of interest, providing each data representation to one of multiple parallel neural networks in the consolidated neural network, and receiving, from the consolidated neural network, a classification result for the baseband signal. The consolidated neural network may be trained to classify baseband signals with respect to known modulation types by receiving complex quadrature training vectors, each including samples of a baseband signal derived from a radio frequency signal of known modulation type, comparing a classification result for the training vector to the known modulation type to determine modulation classification performance, and modifying a configuration parameter of the consolidated neural network dependent on the determined modulation classification performance.

Systems and methods for modulation classification of baseband signals using multiple data representations of signal samples

Systems and methods for classifying baseband signals include receiving, at a pre-processing stage of a neural network whose objective is modulation classification performance, a complex quadrature vector of interest including a plurality of samples of a baseband signal derived from a radio frequency signal of an unknown modulation type, providing the vector of interest to a plurality of FIR filters, each of which outputs a respective intermediate filtered version of the vector of interest, combining the outputs of two or more of the FIR filters to produce a filtered version of the vector of interest, including applying respective weightings to the outputs of the FIR filters, and providing the filtered version of the vector of interest to an analysis stage of the neural network for classification with respect to a plurality of known modulation types. The neural network may apply attention-based selection to learn the filters and respective weightings.

Systems and methods for classifying baseband signals with respect to modulation type include receiving, at a consolidated neural network whose objective is modulation classification performance, a complex quadrature vector of interest including multiple samples of a baseband signal derived from a radio frequency signal of unknown modulation type, generating multiple data representations of the vector of interest, providing each data representation to one of multiple parallel neural networks in the consolidated neural network, and receiving a classification result for the baseband signal based on combined outputs of the parallel neural networks. The consolidated neural network may be trained to classify baseband signals with respect to known modulation types by receiving complex quadrature training vectors, each including samples of a baseband signal derived from a radio frequency signal of known modulation type, and comparing a classification result for the training vector to the known modulation type to determine modulation classification performance.

A process for adjusting base station transmit power to reduce power consumption in a wireless radio system, the method includes causing, by a radio controller, a message to be transmitted on a control channel in the wireless radio system proposing a transmit power reduction with respect to a traffic channel in the wireless radio system. Subsequently monitoring, by the radio controller, one or both of the control channel and the traffic channel for an indication from a mobile station affected by the proposed power reduction that the proposed power reduction is unacceptable. And modifying, by the radio controller, as a function of the presence or absence of the indication, the transmit power of the traffic channel.

A method and apparatus for simulcasting within a communication system is provided herein. During operation, each base site will be equipped with a plurality of radios capable of transmitting on various frequencies. Base sites within the communication system will be capable of communicating on a predetermined number of channels, which may differ among base sites. A number of channels will be shared by the base sites. When a simulcast is desired, the participants are located, and a common channel is determined for communication. Thus, call participant location information is used to determine the best channel to use to meet the group's coverage needs.

The method comprises receiving data associated with a plurality of users, wherein a first set of the plurality of users is located at a first location and a second set of the plurality of users is located at a second location. The method further comprises determining that the first set of users has access to both a broadband data communication system and a trunked radio system and that at least one user of the second set of users does not have access to the broadband data communication system. The data is then provided to the first set of users by the broadband data communication system and not the trunked radio system, and to the second set of users by the trunked radio system and not the broadband data communication system.

A method, system, and device consolidate unicast downlinks in a broadband radio access network (RAN) for a requested group call. A subset of subscriber devices of the group in sufficiently close proximity is detected, one subscriber device in the subset is selected to act as a subscriber device to subscriber device broadcast downlink repeater (SD-BDR), and group call data is transmitted to each subscriber not in a subset via a separate unicast downlink, and to each subset via a single outbound unicast link to the selected subscriber device. The selected SD-BDR in each subset then re-broadcasts the group call data to the other members of the subset, thereby reducing outbound broadband resource usage in the broadband RAN.

Embodiments include a trunking site base station receiving a first base station control packet over a network and, in response, transmitting a first subscriber control packet over a subscriber control channel at a first transmission time that is determined based on a transmission schedule. Responsive to determining that a second base station control packet has not been received before a first timeout (or based on another trigger), the base station transmits a second subscriber control packet at a second transmission time that is determined based on the transmission schedule. The second subscriber control packet includes the frame sync and the network ID. The second subscriber control packet also may include a payload indicating a delay period for a subscriber radio to wait before making an attempt to register with a different trunking site.

A method for selecting a channel for group communications in a conventional multi-channel communication system comprises receiving, for a plurality of channels in the multi-channel communication system, a talkgroup assignment list for the channels that identifies a set of talkgroups assigned to use the corresponding channels. A subscriber unit receives talkgroup assignment lists for multiple different channels, determines a desired talkgroup, and selects a channel assigned to the desired talkgroup using the received talkgroup assignment. The talkgroup assignment list is developed for at least one channel in the multi-channel communication system and identifies a set of talkgroups assigned to use the corresponding channel. The list is transmitted for the channel to a subscriber unit and is used by the subscriber unit to register with the system and affiliate with a talkgroup supported by the channel in the conventional multi-channel communication system.

The role-specific instances are created by a system operator and list the roles involved in an operation and the associations between the roles. The role-specific directory instance is advertised to a selected user, and the selected user associates with the role-specific directory instance. If the user is a key contact for the operation or is otherwise required or allowed to be associated with a role in the operation, the user also associates with a role from the list of roles in the role-specific directory instance. The directory instance is dynamically updated, modified, and tailored as necessary, and transmitted to the communication devices of the selected users of the role-specific directory instance.

A method for indicating the status of communication channels assigned to a talkgroup includes: determining the channels in various sites in a conventional communication system that service a talkgroup for media transmissions between subscribers of the talkgroup; receiving notification of the status of transmission activity on the channels; and based on the notification, providing an indication of the status of the channels assigned to the talkgroup so that the talkgroup or subscribers of the talkgroup can choose to proceed with a talkgroup communication. The notification may be received by an infrastructure device in an RF site or a central controlling entity. The indication may be that the channel is free for transmissions or is busy.
