A continuous process for producing a polyurea concentrate or powder. The process includes combing at least one amine and an isocayante in the presence of a liquid diluent or a base oil in a rotor stator mixer. The concentrate comprises a polyurea in a base oil wherein the concentration of from about 20 weight percent to about 50, or 40 or 35 or 30 weight percent of polyurea based on total weight of grease thickener. The powder has particle size of 2 to 400 microns. This concentrate or powder can then be formulated by grease manufacturers to the desired final properties without the need for handling of the isocyanate and amine raw materials.

Method of making a grease thickener and the thickener made by the method

A continuous process for producing a polyurea concentrate or powder. The process includes combing at least one amine and an isocyanate in the presence of a liquid diluent or a base oil in a rotor stator mixer. The concentrate comprises a polyurea in a base oil wherein the concentration of from about 20 weight percent to about 50, or 40 or 35 or 30 weight percent of polyurea based on total weight of grease thickener. A reaction system for forming a step-growth polymerized sulfur-containing polyester polyol includes at least one sulfur-containing component selected from the group of a sulfur-containing polyol or a sulfur-containing polycarboxylic acid, an amount of the at least one sulfur-containing component being from 1 wt % to 60 wt %, at least one aromatic component selected from the group of an aromatic multi-functional ester, an aromatic multi-functional carboxylic acid, and an aromatic anhydride, an amount of the at least one aromatic component being from 1 wt % to 60 wt %, at least one simple polyol that excludes sulfur and is different from the sulfur containing polyol, an amount of the at least one simple polyol being from 0 wt % to 60 wt %, and at least one polymerization catalyst. The reaction system for forming the sulfur-containing polyester polyol has a sulfur content that is from 2 wt % to 20 wt %.

The instant invention provides an isocyanate trimerization catalyst system, a precursor formulation, a process for trimerizing isocyanates, rigid foams made therefrom, and a process for making such foams. The trimerization catalyst system comprises: (a) a phosphatrane cation; and (b) an isocyanate-trimer inducing anion; wherein said trimerization catalyst system has a trimerization activation temperature in the range of equal to or less than 73&#xb0; C. The precursor formulation comprises (1) at least 25 percent by weight of polyol, based on the weight of the precursor formulation; (2) less than 15 percent by weight of a trimerization catalyst system, based on the weight of the precursor formulation, comprising; (a) a phosphatrane cation; and (c) an isocyanate-trimer inducing anion; wherein said trimerization catalyst system has a trimerization activation temperature in the range of equal to or less than 73&#xb0; C.; and (4) optionally one or more surfactants, one or more flame retardants, water, one or more antioxidants, one or more auxiliary blowing agents, one or more urethane catalysts, one or more auxiliary trimerization catalysts, or combinations thereof. The process for trimerization of isocyanates comprises the steps of: (1) providing one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of an isocyanate, a diisocyanate, a triisocyanate, oligomeric isocyanate, a salt of any thereof, and a mixture of any thereof; (2) providing a trimerization catalyst system comprising; (a) an phosphatrane cation; and (b) an isocyanate-trimer inducing anion; (c) wherein said trimerization catalyst system has a trimerization activation temperature in the range of equal to or less than 73&#xb0; C.; (3) trimerizing said one or more monomers in the presence of said trimerization catalyst; (4) thereby forming an isocyanurate ring. The process for making the PIR foam comprises the steps of: (1) providing one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of an isocyanate, a diisocyanate, a triisocyanate, oligomeric isocyanate, a salt of any thereof, and a mixture of any thereof; (2) providing polyol; (3) providing a trimerization catalyst system comprising; (a) a phosphatrane cation; and (b) an isocyanate-trimer inducing anion; wherein said trimerization catalyst system has a trimerization activation temperature in the range of equal to or less than 73&#xb0; C.; and (4) optionally providing one or more surfactants, one or more flame retardants, water, one or more antioxidants, one or more auxiliary blowing agents, one or more urethane catalysts, one or more auxiliary trimerization catalysts, or combinations thereof; (5) contacting said one or more monomers, and said polyol, and optionally said one or more surfactants, and optionally said one or more flame retardants, and optionally said water, and optionally said one or more antioxidants, and optionally said one or more auxiliary blowing agents in the presence of said trimerization catalyst system and optionally said one or more urethane catalysts, and optionally said one or more auxiliary trimerization catalysts; (6) thereby forming said polyisocyanurate/polyurethane rigid foam. The PIR foam comprises the reaction product of one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of an isocyanate, a diisocyanate, a triisocyanate, oligomeric isocyanate, a salt of any thereof, and a mixture of any thereof with polyol in the presence of a trimerization catalyst system comprising a phosphatrane cation, and an isocyanate-trimer inducing anion, and optionally one or more surfactants, optionally one or more flame retardants, optionally water, optionally one or more antioxidants, optionally one or more auxiliary blowing agents, optionally one or more additional urethane catalysts, and optionally one or more auxiliary trimerization catalysts, or optionally combinations thereof, wherein the trimerization catalyst system has a trimerization activation temperature in the range of equal to or less than 73&#xb0; C. The PIR foam comprises the reaction product of one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of an isocyanate, a diisocyanate, a triisocyanate, oligomeric isocyanate, a salt of any thereof, and a mixture of any thereof with polyol in the presence of a trimerization catalyst system comprising a phosphatrane cation, and an isocyanate-trimer inducing anion, and optionally one or more surfactants, optionally one or more flame retardants, optionally water, optionally one or more antioxidants, optionally one or more auxiliary blowing agents, optionally one or more additional polyurethane catalysts, and optionally one or more auxiliary trimerization catalysts, or optionally combinations thereof, wherein the PIR foam has a polyisocyanurate trimer ratio (Abs/Abs) of at least 5 at a depth of 12 mm from the rising surface of the rigid foam, measured via ATR-FTIR spectroscopy.

A method for making joints in an electrical cable is disclosed. A first cable having polymeric insulation and a first bare conductor end and a second cable having polymeric insulation and a second bare conductor end are provided and joined create a conductor joint. A curable reaction mixture is applied over the conductor joint and cured to form a polymeric insulating sheath over the conductor joint and bonded to the polymeric insulation of each of the first and second cables. The reaction mixture includes a carbon-Michael acceptor compound, a carbon-Michael donor compound and a carbon-Michael reaction catalyst.

An epoxy composition that includes an epoxy-terminated prepolymer, an alkanolamine hardener having at least one hydroxyl group and an organometallic compound, where amine groups of the alkanolamine hardener react with epoxy groups of the epoxy-terminated prepolymer in a stoichiometric ratio to form a cured epoxy composition. Elastomers are prepared from a reaction mixture that contains a polyene compound, an epoxy resin, a thiol curing agent and a basic catalyst. The polyene compound has an average of at least two groups containing aliphatic carbon-carbon double bonds capable of reaction with a thiol group.
