A multi-step autofrettage process for pre-treating a multi-cylinder reciprocating pump fluid end that has a central cylinder and at least two side cylinders is provided that includes autofrettaging the central cylinder; and autofrettaging the at least two side cylinders, wherein the autofrettaging of the central cylinder is performed independently of the autofettaging of the at least two side cylinders.

Autofrettage process for a pump fluid end

A positive displacement pump is provided that includes a pump housing having a pump chamber; a plunger mounted in the pump housing for reciprocating motion in the pump chamber; a suction valve positioned to allow a fluid to enter the pump chamber upon movement of the plunger in a first direction; a discharge valve positioned to discharge the fluid from the pump chamber upon movement of the plunger in a second direction; and at least one sensor enclosed by the pump housing for measuring at least one pump condition parameter.

Sensor system for a positive displacement pump

A reciprocating pump system is utilized. The system facilitates the prediction of failure modes due to degradation of pump components. A sensor system is used to monitor parameters indicative of abnormal events or wear occurring in specific components, such as pump valves. The indications of wear can be used to predict valve failure or other component failure within the reciprocating pump.

System and method for determining onset of failure modes in a positive displacement pump

A positive displacement pump monitor. The monitor includes a sensor coupled to a housing of a pump for obtaining acoustic data therefrom. A proximity switch may be simultaneously used to keep real time timing information relative to the cycling of the pump. A data processor of the monitor may then be employed to analyze acoustic data and timing information to distinguish acceptable noise from leak information. An operator thereby may be warned of the presence of a leak in the pump.
