A golf club head with hosel reinforcement structures arrayed around a hosel axis and extending from an inner mold line of the golf club head within a reinforcement region is disclosed herein. The reinforcement structures include ribs and scallops, which are arranged in specific positions within the reinforcement region to maximize hosel bendability without sacrificing the structural integrity of the golf club head.

A golf club head comprising a body and a hollow stiffening structure is disclosed herein. The body comprises a face section, a sole section, and a crown section, and defines a hollow interior. The hollow stiffening structure extends within the hollow interior from the crown section to the sole section to reduce stresses placed on the face section during impact with a golf ball. The hollow stiffening structure creates stiffness in a vertical, crown-sole direction of the body, while reducing stiffness in the horizontal, front-rear direction, and is filled with a weighted dampening insert that extends the entirety of the length of the stiffening structure and blocks entry into the stiffening structure.

Methods of applying a polymeric coating to a rear face surface of golf club heads with variable face thickness are disclosed herein. The coating, which preferably comprises polyurea, improves the durability of the face and reduces the hits to failure ratio of the golf club head. The coating improves the performance of the golf club head because it allows for reduction in overall face thickness and easy post-process manipulation to allow for fine-tuning of mass properties after production. The reduction in thickness leads to overall weight reduction, because the polymer is roughly a quarter of the density of titanium or stainless steel, and also reinforces the face, thereby increasing the lifespan of the club.

The scope of this invention is to disclose the method of foaming a superior impact mitigation material, namely semi-closed cell hybrid polyurea foam, using scalable manufacturing process that is geometry-independent and allows for greater control of the resulting foam properties. while the process discussed herein, can be easily used to make complex geometries (e.g., padding foam for helmets, outsoles for walking and running shoes, body armors or other protection applications.
