A building automation system (BAS) controller includes a power supply, a primary controller, and plurality of USB ports for connection to a set of supported peripherals. The primary controller identifies the inserted USB device type and, based on device type, estimates a current draw of the USB device. The total estimated current draw of all inserted USB devices is added to the current draw of the primary controller and compared to the available capacity of the power supply. If the combined current draw is above a threshold, any remaining USB ports in which no USB devices are inserted are deactivated, thereby preventing the use of further USB devices. In embodiments, the BAS controller includes an auxiliary peripheral device power interface, and the total current of connected auxiliary peripheral devices is included in the combined current determination. A user interface coupled to the BAS controller displays power allocation status.

Automated peripheral power management

A system and method for controlling a current draw in a transport refrigeration system (TRS) including an electronically controlled engine having an engine control unit (ECU) are disclosed. The method includes disabling the ECU in response to the electronically controlled engine entering an operating mode in which the electronically controlled engine is not running. The TRS controller determines an ambient temperature based on a temperature outside an internal space of the refrigerated transport unit. The TRS controller initializes an ECU off timer when the ambient temperature is less than or equal to an ambient temperature threshold.

Current draw control in a transport refrigeraton system

The embodiments described herein allow a user device to communicate with one or more components within a TRS via a single point communication scheme. That is, a single point access coordinator of a TRS can be configured to receive a message from a user device via a commercial grade communication link, process the message (e.g., determine which TRS component the message is intended for, determine whether the message is a proper message, unpack the message from a commercial grade communication protocol, repack the message into a rugged industrial grade communication protocol, etc.) and relay that message to one or more components of the TRS via a rugged industrial grade communication link within the TRS.
